    Group Formation Using Multi Objectives Ant Colony System for Collaborative Learning

    Collaborative learning is widely applied in education. One of the key aspects of collaborative learning is group formation. A challenge in group formation is to determine appropriate attributes and attribute types to gain good group results. This paper studies the use of an improved ant colony system (ACS), called Multi Objective Ant Colony System (MOACS), for group formation. Unlike ACS that transforms all attribute values into a single value, thus making any attributes are not optimally worth, MOACS tries to gain optimal values of all attributes simultaneously. MOACS is designed for various combinations of attributes and can be used for homogeneous, heterogeneous or mixed attributes. In this paper, sensing/intuitive learning styles (LSSI) and interests in subjects (I) are used in homogeneous group formation, while active/reflective learning style (LSAR) and previous knowledge (KL) are used for heterogeneous or mixed group formation. Experiments were conducted for measuring the average goodness of attributes (avgGA) and standard deviation of goodness of attributes (stdGA). The objectives of MOACS for homogeneous attributes were minimum avgGA and stdGA, while those for heterogeneous attributes were maximum avgGA and minimum stdGA.     Optimizing performance and energy efficiency of group communication and internet of things in cognitive radio networks

    Data traffic in the wireless networks has grown at an unprecedented rate. While traditional wireless networks follow fixed spectrum assignment, spectrum scarcity problem becomes a major challenge in the next generations of wireless networks. Cognitive radio is a promising candidate technology that can mitigate this critical challenge by allowing dynamic spectrum access and increasing the spectrum utilization. As users and data traffic demands increases, more efficient communication methods to support communication in general, and group communication in particular, are needed. On the other hand, limited battery for the wireless network device in general makes it a bottleneck for enhancing the performance of wireless networks. In this thesis, the problem of optimizing the performance of group communication in CRNs is studied. Moreover, energy efficient and wireless-powered group communication in CRNs are considered. Additionally, a cognitive mobile base station and a cognitive UAV are proposed for the purpose of optimizing energy transfer and data dissemination, respectively. First, a multi-objective optimization for many-to-many communication in CRNs is considered. Given a many-to-many communication request, the goal is to support message routing from each user in the many-to-many group to each other. The objectives are minimizing the delay and the number of used links and maximizing data rate. The network is modeled using a multi-layer hyper graph, and the secondary users\u27 transmission is scheduled after establishing the conflict graph. Due to the difficulty of solving the problem optimally, a modified version of an Ant Colony meta-heuristic algorithm is employed to solve the problem. Additionally, energy efficient multicast communication in CRNs is introduced while considering directional and omnidirectional antennas. The multicast service is supported such that the total energy consumption of data transmission and channel switching is minimized. The optimization problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP), and a heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve the problem in polynomial time. Second, wireless-powered machine-to-machine multicast communication in cellular networks is studied. To incentivize Internet of Things (IoT) devices to participate in forwarding the multicast messages, each IoT device participates in messages forwarding receives Radio Frequency (RF) energy form Energy Transmitters (ET) not less than the amount of energy used for messages forwarding. The objective is to minimize total transferred energy by the ETs. The problem is formulated mathematically as a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Program (MINLP), and a Generalized Bender Decomposition with Successive Convex Programming (GBD-SCP) algorithm is introduced to get an approximate solution since there is no efficient way in general to solve the problem optimally. Moreover, another algorithm, Constraints Decomposition with SCP and Binary Variable Relaxation (CDR), is proposed to get an approximate solution in a more efficient way. On the other hand, a cognitive mobile station base is proposed to transfer data and energy to a group of IoT devices underlying a primary network. Total energy consumed by the cognitive base station in its mobility, data transmission and energy transfer is minimized. Moreover, the cognitive base station adjusts its location and transmission power and transmission schedule such that data and energy demands are supported within a certain tolerable time and the primary users are protected from harmful interference. Finally, we consider a cognitive Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to disseminate data to IoT devices. The UAV senses the spectrum and finds an idle channel, then it predicts when the corresponding primary user of the selected channel becomes active based on the elapsed time of the off period. Accordingly, it starts its transmission at the beginning of the next frame right after finding the channel is idle. Moreover, it decides the number of the consecutive transmission slots that it will use such that the number of interfering slots to the corresponding primary user does not exceed a certain threshold. A mathematical problem is formulated to maximize the minimum number of bits received by the IoT devices. A successive convex programming-based algorithm is used to get a solution for the problem in an efficiency way. It is shown that the used algorithm converges to a Kuhn Tucker point

    Using Ant Colonization Optimization to Control Difficulty in Video Game AI.

    Ant colony optimization (ACO) is an algorithm which simulates ant foraging behavior. When ants search for food they leave pheromone trails to tell other ants which paths to take to find food. ACO has been adapted to many different problems in computer science: mainly variations on shortest path algorithms for graphs and networks. ACO can be adapted to work as a form of communication between separate agents in a video game AI. By controlling the effectiveness of this communication, the difficulty of the game should be able to be controlled. Experimentation has shown that ACO works effectively as a form of communication between agents and supports that ACO is an effective form of difficulty control. However, further experimentation is needed to definitively show that ACO is effective at controlling difficulty and to show that it will also work in a large scale system

    A New Method for Improving the Fairness of Multi-Robot Task Allocation by Balancing the Distribution of Tasks

    This paper presents an innovative task allocation method for multi-robot systems that aims to optimize task distribution while taking into account various performance metrics such as efficiency, speed, and cost. Contrary to conventional approaches, the proposed method takes a comprehensive approach to initialization by integrating the K-means clustering algorithm, the Hungarian method for solving the assignment problem, and a genetic algorithm specifically adapted for Open Loop Travel Sales Man Problem (OLTSP). This synergistic combination allows for a more robust initialization, effectively grouping similar tasks and robots, and laying a strong foundation for the subsequent optimization process. The suggested method is flexible enough to handle a variety of situations, including Multi-Robot System (MRS) with robots that have unique capabilities and tasks of varying difficulty. The method provides a more adaptable and flexible solution than traditional algorithms, which might not be able to adequately address these variations because of the heterogeneity of the robots and the complexity of the tasks. Additionally, ensuring optimal task allocation is a key component of the suggested method. The method efficiently determines the best task assignments for robots through the use of a systematic optimization approach, thereby reducing the overall cost and time needed to complete all tasks. This contrasts with some existing methods that might not ensure optimality or might have limitations in their ability to handle a variety of scenarios. Extensive simulation experiments and numerical evaluations are carried out to validate the method's efficiency. The extensive validation process verifies the suggested approach's dependability and efficiency, giving confidence in its practical applicability

    Ant colony optimization based simulation of 3d automatic hose/pipe routing

    This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.This thesis focuses on applying one of the rapidly growing non-deterministic optimization algorithms, the ant colony algorithm, for simulating automatic hose/pipe routing with several conflicting objectives. Within the thesis, methods have been developed and applied to single objective hose routing, multi-objective hose routing and multi-hose routing. The use of simulation and optimization in engineering design has been widely applied in all fields of engineering as the computational capabilities of computers has increased and improved. As a result of this, the application of non-deterministic optimization techniques such as genetic algorithms, simulated annealing algorithms, ant colony algorithms, etc. has increased dramatically resulting in vast improvements in the design process. Initially, two versions of ant colony algorithms have been developed based on, respectively, a random network and a grid network for a single objective (minimizing the length of the hoses) and avoiding obstacles in the CAD model. While applying ant colony algorithms for the simulation of hose routing, two modifications have been proposed for reducing the size of the search space and avoiding the stagnation problem. Hose routing problems often consist of several conflicting or trade-off objectives. In classical approaches, in many cases, multiple objectives are aggregated into one single objective function and optimization is then treated as a single-objective optimization problem. In this thesis two versions of ant colony algorithms are presented for multihose routing with two conflicting objectives: minimizing the total length of the hoses and maximizing the total shared length (bundle length). In this case the two objectives are aggregated into a single objective. The current state-of-the-art approach for handling multi-objective design problems is to employ the concept of Pareto optimality. Within this thesis a new Pareto-based general purpose ant colony algorithm (PSACO) is proposed and applied to a multi-objective hose routing problem that consists of the following objectives: total length of the hoses between the start and the end locations, number of bends, and angles of bends. The proposed method is capable of handling any number of objectives and uses a single pheromone matrix for all the objectives. The domination concept is used for updating the pheromone matrix. Among the currently available multi-objective ant colony optimization (MOACO) algorithms, P-ACO generates very good solutions in the central part of the Pareto front and hence the proposed algorithm is compared with P-ACO. A new term is added to the random proportional rule of both of the algorithms (PSACO and P-ACO) to attract ants towards edges that make angles close to the pre-specified angles of bends. A refinement algorithm is also suggested for searching an acceptable solution after the completion of searching the entire search space. For all of the simulations, the STL format (tessellated format) for the obstacles is used in the algorithm instead of the original shapes of the obstacles. This STL format is passed to the C++ library RAPID for collision detection. As a result of using this format, the algorithms can handle freeform obstacles and the algorithms are not restricted to a particular software package

    Shortest Route at Dynamic Location with Node Combination-Dijkstra Algorithm

    Abstract— Online transportation has become a basic requirement of the general public in support of all activities to go to work, school or vacation to the sights. Public transportation services compete to provide the best service so that consumers feel comfortable using the services offered, so that all activities are noticed, one of them is the search for the shortest route in picking the buyer or delivering to the destination. Node Combination method can minimize memory usage and this methode is more optimal when compared to A* and Ant Colony in the shortest route search like Dijkstra algorithm, but can’t store the history node that has been passed. Therefore, using node combination algorithm is very good in searching the shortest distance is not the shortest route. This paper is structured to modify the node combination algorithm to solve the problem of finding the shortest route at the dynamic location obtained from the transport fleet by displaying the nodes that have the shortest distance and will be implemented in the geographic information system in the form of map to facilitate the use of the system. It encourages the efficient and effective developmental processes that are carried out in various organizations. Cloud computing offers both possibilities and solutions of problems for outsourcing and management of software developmental operations across distinct geography. Cloud computing is adopted by organizations and application developers for developing quality software. The cloud has the significant impact on utilizing the artificial complexity required in developing and designing quality software. Software developmental organization prefers cloud computing for outsourcing tasks because of its available and scalable nature. Cloud computing is the ideal choice utilized for development modern software as they have provided a completely new way of developing real-time cost-effective, efficient, and quality software. Tenants (providers, developers, and consumers) are provided with platforms, software services, and infrastructure based on pay per use phenomenon. Cloud-based software services are becoming increasingly popular, as observed by their widespread use. Cloud computing approach has drawn the interest of researchers and business because of its ability to provide a flexible and resourceful platform for development and deployment. To determine a cohesive understanding of the analyzed problems and solutions to improve the quality of software, the existing literature resources on cloud-based software development should be analyzed and synthesized systematically. Keyword strings were formulated for analyzing relevant research articles from journals, book chapters, and conference papers. The research articles published in (2011–2021) various scientific databases were extracted and analyzed for retrieval of relevant research articles. A total of 97 research publications are examined in this SLR and are evaluated to be appropriate studies in explaining and discussing the proposed topic. The major emphasis of the presented systematic literature review (SLR) is to identify the participating entities of cloud-based software development, challenges associated with adopting cloud for software developmental processes, and its significance to software industries and developers.
