Stability of multi-dimensional birth-and-death processes with state-dependent 0-homogeneous jumps
We study the positive recurrence of multi-dimensional birth-and-death
processes describing the evolution of a large class of stochastic systems, a
typical example being the randomly varying number of flow-level transfers in a
telecommunication wire-line or wireless network.
We first provide a generic method to construct a Lyapunov function when the
drift can be extended to a smooth function on , using an
associated deterministic dynamical system. This approach gives an elementary
proof of ergodicity without needing to establish the convergence of the scaled
version of the process towards a fluid limit and then proving that the
stability of the fluid limit implies the stability of the process. We also
provide a counterpart result proving instability conditions.
We then show how discontinuous drifts change the nature of the stability
conditions and we provide generic sufficient stability conditions having a
simple geometric interpretation. These conditions turn out to be necessary
(outside a negligible set of the parameter space) for piece-wise constant
drifts in dimension 2.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figure
Basic zone control performance determination in FTS design
Predložena strategija analitičkog modeliranja znatno poboljšava nivo tačnosti predviđanja performansi sistema i elementarnih podsistema FTS-a.This paper presents procedure for estimation of vehicle control zone blocking times as an only a small part of system and elementary subsystems performance variables calculation in a flexible transport system (FTS) design. Procedure is a final step of an Integral analytical model (IAM) for FTS design and performances determination, whose general algorithm is shown. Some results of sensitively analyses performed by IAM are also presented. Proposed analytical modeling strategy substantially increases the level of accuracy of system and elementary subsystem performance predicting
Decentralised control of material or traffic flows in networks using phase-synchronisation
We present a self-organising, decentralised control method for material flows
in networks. The concept applies to networks where time sharing mechanisms
between conflicting flows in nodes are required and where a coordination of
these local switches on a system-wide level can improve the performance. We
show that, under certain assumptions, the control of nodes can be mapped to a
network of phase-oscillators.
By synchronising these oscillators, the desired global coordination is
achieved. We illustrate the method in the example of traffic signal control for
road networks. The proposed concept is flexible, adaptive, robust and
decentralised. It can be transferred to other queuing networks such as
production systems. Our control approach makes use of simple synchronisation
principles found in various biological systems in order to obtain collective
behaviour from local interactions
EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON QUEUEING THEORY 2016
International audienceThis booklet contains the proceedings of the second European Conference in Queueing Theory (ECQT) that was held from the 18th to the 20th of July 2016 at the engineering school ENSEEIHT, Toulouse, France. ECQT is a biannual event where scientists and technicians in queueing theory and related areas get together to promote research, encourage interaction and exchange ideas. The spirit of the conference is to be a queueing event organized from within Europe, but open to participants from all over the world. The technical program of the 2016 edition consisted of 112 presentations organized in 29 sessions covering all trends in queueing theory, including the development of the theory, methodology advances, computational aspects and applications. Another exciting feature of ECQT2016 was the institution of the Takács Award for outstanding PhD thesis on "Queueing Theory and its Applications"
