SWA-KMDLS: An Enhanced e-Learning Management System Using Semantic Web and Knowledge Management Technology
In this era of knowledge economy in which knowledge have become the most precious
resource, surveys have shown that e-Learning has been on the increasing trend in various
organizations including, among others, education and corporate. The use of e-Learning is
not only aim to acquire knowledge but also to maintain competitiveness and advantages
for individuals or organizations. However, the early promise of e-Learning has yet to be
fully realized, as it has been no more than a handout being published online, coupled with
simple multiple-choice quizzes. The emerging of e-Learning 2.0 that is empowered by
Web 2.0 technology still hardly overcome common problem such as information
overload and poor content aggregation in a highly increasing number of learning objects
in an e-Learning Management System (LMS) environment.
The aim of this research study is to exploit the Semantic Web (SW) and Knowledge
Management (KM) technology; the two emerging and promising technology to enhance
the existing LMS. The proposed system is named as Semantic Web Aware-Knowledge
Management Driven e-Learning System (SWA-KMDLS). An Ontology approach that is
the backbone of SW and KM is introduced for managing knowledge especially from
learning object and developing automated question answering system (Aquas) with
expert locator in SWA-KMDLS. The METHONTOLOGY methodology is selected to
develop the Ontology in this research work.
The potential of SW and KM technology is identified in this research finding which will
benefit e-Learning developer to develop e-Learning system especially with social
constructivist pedagogical approach from the point of view of KM framework and SW
environment. The (semi-) automatic ontological knowledge base construction system
(SAOKBCS) has contributed to knowledge extraction from learning object semiautomatically
whilst the Aquas with expert locator has facilitated knowledge retrieval
that encourages knowledge sharing in e-Learning environment.
The experiment conducted has shown that the SAOKBCS can extract concept that is the
main component of Ontology from text learning object with precision of 86.67%, thus
saving the expert time and effort to build Ontology manually. Additionally the
experiment on Aquas has shown that more than 80% of users are satisfied with answers
provided by the system. The expert locator framework can also improve the performance
of Aquas in the future usage.

Framework Proposal for Management of Knowledge and Technology Transfer in Brazilian Academic Internships
This article has the purpose of developing a framework for management of knowledge and technology transfer in Brazilian academic internships, with a Knowledge Management approach. The methodological procedures employed are classified as qualitative, bibliographical, documentary, and a survey, having academic internships in Brazil as the object of study. The framework proposed is an advantage in internship management, systematizing information, knowledge, and technology, in addition to increasing the potential of internship activities. The framework for management of knowledge and technology transfer in Brazilian academic internships offers its users not only a service of knowledge management, but also a Knowledge Management System with resources of Communication and Information Technology for the construction of a learning platform, in which coordinators, professors, supervisors, and student-interns would be able to manage the internship, its activities, and the online learning environment. In other words, it is an environment designed for the development of academic knowledge in professional capacities
Internet of robotic things : converging sensing/actuating, hypoconnectivity, artificial intelligence and IoT Platforms
The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration, new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating, their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection. Developments in IoT heterogeneous parallel processing/communication and dynamic systems based on parallelism and concurrencyrequire new ideas for integrating the intelligent “devices”, collaborativerobots (COBOTS), into IoT applications. Dynamic maintainability, selfhealing,self-repair of resources, changing resource state, (re-) configurationand context based IoT systems for service implementation and integrationwith IoT network service composition are of paramount importance whennew “cognitive devices” are becoming active participants in IoT applications. This chapter aims to be an overview of the IoRT concept, technologies, architectures and applications and to provide a comprehensive coverage offuture challenges, developments and applications

The deferred model of reality for designing and evaluating organisational learning processes: A critical ethnographic case study of Komfo Anokye teaching hospital, Ghana
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The study proposed an evidence-based framework for designing and evaluating organisational learning and knowledge management processes to support continuously improving intentions of organisations such as hospitals. It demarcates the extant approaches to organisational learning including supporting technology into ‘rationalist’ and ‘emergent’ schools which utilise the dichotomy between the traditional healthcare managers’ roles and clinicians’ roles, and maintains that they are exclusively inadequate to accomplish transformative growth intentions, such as continuously improving patient care. The possibility of balancing the two schools for effective organisational learning design is not straightforward, and fails; because the balanced-view school is theoretically orientated and lack practical design to resolve power tensions entrenched in organisational structures. Prior attempts to address the organisational learning and knowledge management design and evaluation problematics in actuality have situated in the interpretivist traditions, only focusing on explanations of meanings. Critically, this is uncritical of power relations and orthodox practices. The theory of deferred action is applied in the context of critical research methods and methodology to expose the motivations behind the established organisational learning and knowledge management practices of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) which assumed rationality design conceptions. Ethnographic data was obtained and interpreted with combined critical hermeneutics and narrative analyses to question the extent of healthcare learning and knowledge management systems failures and unveil the unheard voices as force for change. The study makes many contributions to knowledge but the key ones are: (i) Practically, the participants accepted the study as a catalyst for (re)-designing healthcare learning and knowledge management systems to typify the acceptance of the theory of deferred action in practice; (ii) theoretically, the cohered emergent transformation (CET) model was developed from the theory of deferred action and validated with empirical data to explain how to plan strategically to achieve transformative growth objectives; and (iii) methodologically, the sense-making of the ethnographic data was explored with the combined critical hermeneutics and critical narrative analyses, the data interpretation lens from the critical theory and qualitative pluralism positions, to elucidate how the unheard emergent voices could bring change to the existing KATH learning and knowledge management processes for improved patient care

Sociomaterial design of coordination in knowledge sharing : a heritage KMS reference architecture
Designing knowledge management systems (KMS) from sociomaterial (SM) tenets has the potential to improve coordination in knowledge sharing activities. However, current information systems knowledge lacks enough guidance on how to go about sociomaterial design. In this Design Science Research (DSR) study we present a set of sociomaterial design guidelines for KMS that enable knowledge sharing (KS) in the historical and cultural heritage domain. We carried out three DSR iterations to define design requirements, formulate sociomaterial design guidelines, and instantiate and evaluate these through a prototypical instantiation of a KMS. This research contributes to the IS literature by presenting an actionable set of guidelines for applying SM principles in designing new KMS. The capability of this design approach has been demonstrated through a KMS validation in an international and interorganizational KS network. We demonstrate how technology designers can use sociomateriality as a design lens enabling them to further create IT-based coordination mechanisms and we show the value of considering SM design to advance in overcoming coordination issues for sharing knowledge.Doctor en IngenieríaDoctorad
