Downlink Steered Space-Time Spreading Assisted Generalised Multicarrier DS-CDMA Using Sphere-Packing-Aided Multilevel Coding
This paper presents a novel generalised Multi-Carrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system invoking smart antennas for improving the achievable performance in the downlink, as well as employing multi-dimensional Sphere Packing (SP) modulation for increasing the achievable diversity product. In this contribution, the MC DS-CDMA transmitter considered employs multiple Antenna Arrays (AA) and each of the AAs consists of several antenna elements. Furthermore, the proposed system employs both time- and frequency- (TF) domain spreading for extending the achievable capacity, when combined with a novel user-grouping technique for reducing the effects of Multiuser Interference (MUI). Moreover, in order to further enhance the system’s performance, we invoke a MultiLevel Coding (MLC) scheme, whose component codes are determined using the so-called equivalent capacity based constituent-code rate-calculation procedure invoking a 4-dimensional bit-to-SP-symbol mapping scheme. Our results demonstrate an approximately 3.8 dB Eb/N0 gain over an identical throughput scheme dispensing with SP modulation at a BER of 10?5
Enabling Quality-Driven Scalable Video Transmission over Multi-User NOMA System
Recently, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been proposed to achieve
higher spectral efficiency over conventional orthogonal multiple access.
Although it has the potential to meet increasing demands of video services, it
is still challenging to provide high performance video streaming. In this
research, we investigate, for the first time, a multi-user NOMA system design
for video transmission. Various NOMA systems have been proposed for data
transmission in terms of throughput or reliability. However, the perceived
quality, or the quality-of-experience of users, is more critical for video
transmission. Based on this observation, we design a quality-driven scalable
video transmission framework with cross-layer support for multi-user NOMA. To
enable low complexity multi-user NOMA operations, a novel user grouping
strategy is proposed. The key features in the proposed framework include the
integration of the quality model for encoded video with the physical layer
model for NOMA transmission, and the formulation of multi-user NOMA-based video
transmission as a quality-driven power allocation problem. As the problem is
non-concave, a global optimal algorithm based on the hidden monotonic property
and a suboptimal algorithm with polynomial time complexity are developed.
Simulation results show that the proposed multi-user NOMA system outperforms
existing schemes in various video delivery scenarios.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures. This paper has already been accepted by IEEE

Sub-channel Assignment, Power Allocation and User Scheduling for Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access Networks
In this paper, we study the resource allocation and user scheduling problem
for a downlink nonorthogonal multiple access network where the base station
allocates spectrum and power resources to a set of users. We aim to jointly
optimize the sub-channel assignment and power allocation to maximize the
weighted total sum-rate while taking into account user fairness. We formulate
the sub-channel allocation problem as equivalent to a many-to-many two-sided
user-subchannel matching game in which the set of users and sub-channels are
considered as two sets of players pursuing their own interests. We then propose
a matching algorithm which converges to a two-side exchange stable matching
after a limited number of iterations. A joint solution is thus provided to
solve the sub-channel assignment and power allocation problems iteratively.
Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm greatly outperforms the
orthogonal multiple access scheme and a previous non-orthogonal multiple access
scheme.Comment: Accepted as a regular paper by IEEE Transactions on Wireless

On the optimal user grouping in NOMA system technology
This paper provides a state-of-art analysis of the most relevant studies on optimal user-aggregation strategies for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. The main ideas behind are i) to highlight how, in addition to the adoption of an optimal power allocation scheme, an optimal user-aggregation strategy represents an important key factor for improving NOMA system performance, and ii) to provide an exhaustive survey of the most relevant studies which can serve as useful starting point for the definition of new channel state-aware user-aggregation strategies for NOMA systems which, at the time of writing, represents a research field that still remains to be investigated more in depth. A detailed and complete analysis, which permits to point out the need to guarantee a certain relationship between users’ channel gain, is provided for each cited work
