Design and Simulation of a Novel Clustering based Fuzzy Controller for DC Motor Speed Control
This research article proposes the speed control of a DC Motor (series as well as shunt motor). The noveltyof this article lies in the application of kernel based hybrid c-means clustering (KPFCM) in the design offuzzy controller for the speed control of DC Motor. The proposed approach provides a mechanism to obtainthe reduced rule set covering the whole input/output space as well as the parameters of membershipfunctions for each input variable. The performance of the proposed clustering based fuzzy logic controlleris compared with that of its corresponding conventional fuzzy logic controller in terms of severalperformance measures such as rise time, peak overshoot, settling time, integral absolute error (IAE) andintegral of time multiplied absolute error (ITAE) and in each case, the proposed scheme shows improvedperformance over its conventional counterpart. Also it shows that the proposed controller scheme givesmuch faster results as it reduces the computational time. Keywords: DC Motor, Fuzzy control, Kernel, Clustering, Validity inde
Learning Motion Primitives Automata for Autonomous Driving Applications
Motion planning methods often rely on libraries of primitives. The selection of primitives
is then crucial for assuring feasible solutions and good performance within the motion planner.
In the literature, the library is usually designed by either learning from demonstration, relying
entirely on data, or by model-based approaches, with the advantage of exploiting the dynamical
system’s property, e.g., symmetries. In this work, we propose a method combining data with a
dynamical model to optimally select primitives. The library is designed based on primitives with
highest occurrences within the data set, while Lie group symmetries from a model are analysed
in the available data to allow for structure-exploiting primitives. We illustrate our technique in
an autonomous driving application. Primitives are identified based on data from human driving,
with the freedom to build libraries of different sizes as a parameter of choice. We also compare
the extracted library with a custom selection of primitives regarding the performance of obtained
solutions for a street layout based on a real-world scenario
An Overview on Application of Machine Learning Techniques in Optical Networks
Today's telecommunication networks have become sources of enormous amounts of
widely heterogeneous data. This information can be retrieved from network
traffic traces, network alarms, signal quality indicators, users' behavioral
data, etc. Advanced mathematical tools are required to extract meaningful
information from these data and take decisions pertaining to the proper
functioning of the networks from the network-generated data. Among these
mathematical tools, Machine Learning (ML) is regarded as one of the most
promising methodological approaches to perform network-data analysis and enable
automated network self-configuration and fault management. The adoption of ML
techniques in the field of optical communication networks is motivated by the
unprecedented growth of network complexity faced by optical networks in the
last few years. Such complexity increase is due to the introduction of a huge
number of adjustable and interdependent system parameters (e.g., routing
configurations, modulation format, symbol rate, coding schemes, etc.) that are
enabled by the usage of coherent transmission/reception technologies, advanced
digital signal processing and compensation of nonlinear effects in optical
fiber propagation. In this paper we provide an overview of the application of
ML to optical communications and networking. We classify and survey relevant
literature dealing with the topic, and we also provide an introductory tutorial
on ML for researchers and practitioners interested in this field. Although a
good number of research papers have recently appeared, the application of ML to
optical networks is still in its infancy: to stimulate further work in this
area, we conclude the paper proposing new possible research directions
Evolving Ensemble Models for Image Segmentation Using Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization
In this paper, we propose particle swarm optimization (PSO)-enhanced ensemble deep neural networks and hybrid clustering models for skin lesion segmentation. A PSO variant is proposed, which embeds diverse search actions including simulated annealing, levy flight, helix behavior, modified PSO, and differential evolution operations with spiral search coefficients. These search actions work in a cascade manner to not only equip each individual with different search operations throughout the search process but also assign distinctive search actions to different particles simultaneously in every single iteration. The proposed PSO variant is used to optimize the learning hyper-parameters of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and the cluster centroids of classical Fuzzy C-Means clustering respectively to overcome performance barriers. Ensemble deep networks and hybrid clustering models are subsequently constructed based on the optimized CNN and hybrid clustering segmenters for lesion segmentation. We evaluate the proposed ensemble models using three skin lesion databases, i.e., PH2, ISIC 2017, and Dermofit Image Library, and a blood cancer data set, i.e., ALL-IDB2. The empirical results indicate that our models outperform other hybrid ensemble clustering models combined with advanced PSO variants, as well as state-of-the-art deep networks in the literature for diverse challenging image segmentation tasks
A Survey on Feature Selection Algorithms
One major component of machine learning is feature analysis which comprises of mainly two processes: feature selection and feature extraction. Due to its applications in several areas including data mining, soft computing and big data analysis, feature selection has got a reasonable importance. This paper presents an introductory concept of feature selection with various inherent approaches. The paper surveys historic developments reported in feature selection with supervised and unsupervised methods. The recent developments with the state of the art in the on-going feature selection algorithms have also been summarized in the paper including their hybridizations.
