A Mobile Computing Architecture for Numerical Simulation

The domain of numerical simulation is a place where the parallelization of numerical code is common. The definition of a numerical context means the configuration of resources such as memory, processor load and communication graph, with an evolving feature: the resources availability. A feature is often missing: the adaptability. It is not predictable and the adaptable aspect is essential. Without calling into question these implementations of these codes, we create an adaptive use of these implementations. Because the execution has to be driven by the availability of main resources, the components of a numeric computation have to react when their context changes. This paper offers a new architecture, a mobile computing architecture, based on mobile agents and JavaSpace. At the end of this paper, we apply our architecture to several case studies and obtain our first results

A framework for distributed manufacturing applications

The new organisational structures used in world wide manufacturing systems require the development of distributed applications, which present solutions to their requirements. The work research in the distributed manufacturing control leads to emergent paradigms, such as Holonic Manufacturing Systems (HMS) and Bionic Manufacturing Systems (BMS), which translates the concepts from social organisations and biological systems to the manufacturing world. This paper present a Framework for the development of distributed manufacturing applications, based in an agent-based architecture, which implements some Holonic and Bionic Manufacturing Systems concepts

From supply chains to demand networks. Agents in retailing: the electrical bazaar

    Get PDF
A paradigm shift is taking place in logistics. The focus is changing from operational effectiveness to adaptation. Supply Chains will develop into networks that will adapt to consumer demand in almost real time. Time to market, capacity of adaptation and enrichment of customer experience seem to be the key elements of this new paradigm. In this environment emerging technologies like RFID (Radio Frequency ID), Intelligent Products and the Internet, are triggering a reconsideration of methods, procedures and goals. We present a Multiagent System framework specialized in retail that addresses these changes with the use of rational agents and takes advantages of the new market opportunities. Like in an old bazaar, agents able to learn, cooperate, take advantage of gossip and distinguish between collaborators and competitors, have the ability to adapt, learn and react to a changing environment better than any other structure.

A Theoretical Framework for Simulating Organizations

This work proposes a theoretical framework using a systemic modeling paradigm to implement computational agents in the simulation of organizations. The potential of its use is demonstrated in the modeling of supply chains. Finally, research tending to develop an organizational modeling system in real-time is proposed.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, Chilean Conference Operational Research - OPTIMA 200

Real-time predictive maintenance for wind turbines using Big Data frameworks

This work presents the evolution of a solution for predictive maintenance to a Big Data environment. The proposed adaptation aims for predicting failures on wind turbines using a data-driven solution deployed in the cloud and which is composed by three main modules. (i) A predictive model generator which generates predictive models for each monitored wind turbine by means of Random Forest algorithm. (ii) A monitoring agent that makes predictions every 10 minutes about failures in wind turbines during the next hour. Finally, (iii) a dashboard where given predictions can be visualized. To implement the solution Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Mesos and HDFS have been used. Therefore, we have improved the previous work in terms of data process speed, scalability and automation. In addition, we have provided fault-tolerant functionality with a centralized access point from where the status of all the wind turbines of a company localized all over the world can be monitored, reducing O&M costs
