    Quality of Service (QoS) routing algorithm for Software Defined Network (SDN)

    Due to the use of various technologies like mobile, cloud, big data. The network traffic has increased this has resulted in the  re examination of the working of  traditional network architectures as these are built as static architectures and cannot handle the rapid growing traffic on the internet. A dynamic architecture which can be programmed according to the traffic behaviour was the need. Software Defined Networking (SDN) was emerged to address the growing needs of the dynamic traffic which has been in the moonlight since 2010. SDN increase and makes the network as flexible to program according to the programmers needs by keeping the traffic in line. It gives the user flexibility of adjusting the network resources by separating the control plane and data plane. By using SDN networks can be managed dynamically. The capacity of a network to offer good services to the selected network traffic over various technologies is termed as Quality of Service (QoS). To transfer high-bandwidth video and multimedia information continuously QoS is of particular objective.Â

    Optimal joint path computation and rate allocation for real-time traffic

    Computing network paths under worst-case delay constraints has been the subject of abundant literature in the past two decades. Assuming Weighted Fair Queueing scheduling at the nodes, this translates to computing paths and reserving rates at each link. The problem is NP-hard in general, even for a single path; hence polynomial-time heuristics have been proposed in the past, that either assume equal rates at each node, or compute the path heuristically and then allocate the rates optimally on the given path. In this paper we show that the above heuristics, albeit finding optimal solutions quite often, can lead to failing of paths at very low loads, and that this could be avoided by solving the problem, i.e., path computation and rate allocation, jointly at optimality. This is possible by modeling the problem as a mixed-integer second-order cone program and solving it optimally in split-second times for relatively large networks on commodity hardware; this approach can also be easily turned into a heuristic one, trading a negligible increase in blocking probability for one order of magnitude of computation time. Extensive simulations show that these methods are feasible in today's ISPs networks and they significantly outperform the existing schemes in terms of blocking probability

    Review of Path Selection Algorithms with Link Quality and Critical Switch Aware for Heterogeneous Traffic in SDN

    Software Defined Networking (SDN) introduced network management flexibility that eludes traditional network architecture. Nevertheless, the pervasive demand for various cloud computing services with different levels of Quality of Service requirements in our contemporary world made network service provisioning challenging. One of these challenges is path selection (PS) for routing heterogeneous traffic with end-to-end quality of service support specific to each traffic class. The challenge had gotten the research community\u27s attention to the extent that many PSAs were proposed. However, a gap still exists that calls for further study. This paper reviews the existing PSA and the Baseline Shortest Path Algorithms (BSPA) upon which many relevant PSA(s) are built to help identify these gaps. The paper categorizes the PSAs into four, based on their path selection criteria, (1) PSAs that use static or dynamic link quality to guide PSD, (2) PSAs that consider the criticality of switch in terms of an update operation, FlowTable limitation or port capacity to guide PSD, (3) PSAs that consider flow variabilities to guide PSD and (4) The PSAs that use ML optimization in their PSD. We then reviewed and compared the techniques\u27 design in each category against the identified SDN PSA design objectives, solution approach, BSPA, and validation approaches. Finally, the paper recommends directions for further research

    A Survey of Scheduling in Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)

    TSN is an enhancement of Ethernet which provides various mechanisms for real-time communication. Time-triggered (TT) traffic represents periodic data streams with strict real-time requirements. Amongst others, TSN supports scheduled transmission of TT streams, i.e., the transmission of their packets by edge nodes is coordinated in such a way that none or very little queuing delay occurs in intermediate nodes. TSN supports multiple priority queues per egress port. The TAS uses so-called gates to explicitly allow and block these queues for transmission on a short periodic timescale. The TAS is utilized to protect scheduled traffic from other traffic to minimize its queuing delay. In this work, we consider scheduling in TSN which comprises the computation of periodic transmission instants at edge nodes and the periodic opening and closing of queue gates. In this paper, we first give a brief overview of TSN features and standards. We state the TSN scheduling problem and explain common extensions which also include optimization problems. We review scheduling and optimization methods that have been used in this context. Then, the contribution of currently available research work is surveyed. We extract and compile optimization objectives, solved problem instances, and evaluation results. Research domains are identified, and specific contributions are analyzed.
