Conducting Online Focus Groups - Practical Advice for Information Systems Researchers

    Get PDF
Video-based online focus groups present an emerging opportunity for IS researchers to collect rich data. They allow researchers to assemble participants from all over the world who collectively discuss contemporary IS phenomena. In order to realize the full potential of online focus groups for IS research, we need to understand the challenges and uncover possible solutions for designing and conducting online focus groups. We review prior (online) focus group literature in and beyond the IS discipline. Additionally, we provide a detailed account of our own experiences with seven online focus groups in the context of digital platforms. In supplementing our own experiences with those of others in prior literature, we present the conditions under which online focus groups are especially appropriate, summarize the challenges inherent in the online focus group method and provide practical advice on its application

Relationship Among Customer Value, Satisfaction, And Loyalty of Social Network Service

    Get PDF
Social Network Service (SNS), is an innovative application and business model in recent years. It changes the development and communication of current social network and gathers tremendous viewers to create more business opportunities. However, what are the values that attract users to use SNS? This study focuses on the behaviors of SNS users in Taiwan by empirical research. From the customer point of view, satisfaction and loyalty could be relative to and affected by utilitarian value and hedonic value. Therefore, this study builds an applicable integrated model and uses Structural Equation Modeling to analyze the relations of constructs in the model. We find the following. (1) The constructs of the model are supported. (2) The utilitarian value can be measured by factors of sociality, convenience, and information availability; hedonic value can be measured by factors of adventure, escapism, and affiliation. (3) The utilitarian value and hedonic value affect customer satisfaction; customer satisfaction affects word of mouth and repatronage intention. (4) The utilitarian value and hedonic value positively affect word of mouth and repatronage intention, but providing a good customer satisfaction can enhance word of mouth and repatronage intention. (5) The influence of hedonic value is higher than that of utilitarian value

Electronic cigarettes are rapidly becoming the most common form of nicotine replacement therapy, but their long-term effects are still unknown, especially surrounding effects on a foetus. Currently, organisations such as Public Health England and the Royal College of Midwives support the use of electronic cigarettes during pregnancy, as they are deemed a safer alternative to conventional cigarette smoking. The defining purpose of this research was to explore the knowledge and attitudes held by midwives regarding electronic cigarette use in pregnancy, and whether this affected their likelihood of recommendation as a smoking cessation strategy. Midwives were chosen as they have most likely had the most frequent contact with pregnant smokers, and their roles encompass a strong element of health promotion. This is important as professional bodies such as the Royal College of Midwives recommend electronic cigarettes as a smoking cessation strategy in pregnancy; a very recent development in midwifery practic
