Advanced Proof Viewing in ProofTool
Sequent calculus is widely used for formalizing proofs. However, due to the
proliferation of data, understanding the proofs of even simple mathematical
arguments soon becomes impossible. Graphical user interfaces help in this
matter, but since they normally utilize Gentzen's original notation, some of
the problems persist. In this paper, we introduce a number of criteria for
proof visualization which we have found out to be crucial for analyzing proofs.
We then evaluate recent developments in tree visualization with regard to these
criteria and propose the Sunburst Tree layout as a complement to the
traditional tree structure. This layout constructs inferences as concentric
circle arcs around the root inference, allowing the user to focus on the
proof's structural content. Finally, we describe its integration into ProofTool

Army-NASA aircrew/aircraft integration program. Phase 5: A3I Man-Machine Integration Design and Analysis System (MIDAS) software concept document
This is the Software Concept Document for the Man-machine Integration Design and Analysis System (MIDAS) being developed as part of Phase V of the Army-NASA Aircrew/Aircraft Integration (A3I) Progam. The approach taken in this program since its inception in 1984 is that of incremental development with clearly defined phases. Phase 1 began in 1984 and subsequent phases have progressed at approximately 10-16 month intervals. Each phase of development consists of planning, setting requirements, preliminary design, detailed design, implementation, testing, demonstration and documentation. Phase 5 began with an off-site planning meeting in November, 1990. It is expected that Phase 5 development will be complete and ready for demonstration to invited visitors from industry, government and academia in May, 1992. This document, produced during the preliminary design period of Phase 5, is intended to record the top level design concept for MIDAS as it is currently conceived. This document has two main objectives: (1) to inform interested readers of the goals of the MIDAS Phase 5 development period, and (2) to serve as the initial version of the MIDAS design document which will be continuously updated as the design evolves. Since this document is written fairly early in the design period, many design issues still remain unresolved. Some of the unresolved issues are mentioned later in this document in the sections on specific components. Readers are cautioned that this is not a final design document and that, as the design of MIDAS matures, some of the design ideas recorded in this document will change. Plan recognition for space telerobotics
Current research on space telerobots has largely focused on two problem areas: executing remotely controlled actions (the tele part of telerobotics) or planning to execute them (the robot part). This work has largely ignored one of the key aspects of telerobots: the interaction between the machine and its operator. For this interaction to be felicitous, the machine must successfully understand what the operator is trying to accomplish with particular remote-controlled actions. Only with the understanding of the operator's purpose for performing these actions can the robot intelligently assist the operator, perhaps by warning of possible errors or taking over part of the task. There is a need for such an understanding in the telerobotics domain and an intelligent interface being developed in the chemical process design domain addresses the same issues
Research in constraint-based layout, visualization, CAD, and related topics : a bibliographical survey
The present work compiles numerous papers in the area of computer-aided design, graphics, layout configuration, and user interfaces in general. There is nearly no conference on graphics, multimedia, and user interfaces that does not include a section on constraint-based graphics; on the other hand most conferences on constraint processing favour applications in graphics. This work of bibliographical pointers may serve as a basis for a detailed and comprehensive survey of this important and challenging field in the intersection of constraint processing and graphics. Graph Creation, Visualisation and Transformation
We describe a tool to create, edit, visualise and compute with interaction
nets - a form of graph rewriting systems. The editor, called GraphPaper, allows
users to create and edit graphs and their transformation rules using an
intuitive user interface. The editor uses the functionalities of the TULIP
system, which gives us access to a wealth of visualisation algorithms.
Interaction nets are not only a formalism for the specification of graphs, but
also a rewrite-based computation model. We discuss graph rewriting strategies
and a language to express them in order to perform strategic interaction net
