A new class of two-channel biorthogonal filter banks and wavelet bases
We propose a novel framework for a new class of two-channel biorthogonal filter banks. The framework covers two useful subclasses: i) causal stable IIR filter banks. ii) linear phase FIR filter banks. There exists a very efficient structurally perfect reconstruction implementation for such a class. Filter banks of high frequency selectivity can be achieved by using the proposed framework with low complexity. The properties of such a class are discussed in detail. The design of the analysis/synthesis systems reduces to the design of a single transfer function. Very simple design methods are given both for FIR and IIR cases. Zeros of arbitrary multiplicity at aliasing frequency can be easily imposed, for the purpose of generating wavelets with regularity property. In the IIR case, two new classes of IIR maximally flat filters different from Butterworth filters are introduced. The filter coefficients are given in closed form. The wavelet bases corresponding to the biorthogonal systems are generated. the authors also provide a novel mapping of the proposed 1-D framework into 2-D. The mapping preserves the following: i) perfect reconstruction; ii) stability in the IIR case; iii) linear phase in the FIR case; iv) zeros at aliasing frequency; v) frequency characteristic of the filters
Extreme Value Analysis of Empirical Frame Coefficients and Implications for Denoising by Soft-Thresholding
Denoising by frame thresholding is one of the most basic and efficient
methods for recovering a discrete signal or image from data that are corrupted
by additive Gaussian white noise. The basic idea is to select a frame of
analyzing elements that separates the data in few large coefficients due to the
signal and many small coefficients mainly due to the noise \epsilon_n. Removing
all data coefficients being in magnitude below a certain threshold yields a
reconstruction of the original signal. In order to properly balance the amount
of noise to be removed and the relevant signal features to be kept, a precise
understanding of the statistical properties of thresholding is important. For
that purpose we derive the asymptotic distribution of max_{\omega \in \Omega_n}
|| for a wide class of redundant frames
(\phi_\omega^n: \omega \in \Omega_n}. Based on our theoretical results we give
a rationale for universal extreme value thresholding techniques yielding
asymptotically sharp confidence regions and smoothness estimates corresponding
to prescribed significance levels. The results cover many frames used in
imaging and signal recovery applications, such as redundant wavelet systems,
curvelet frames, or unions of bases. We show that `generically' a standard
Gumbel law results as it is known from the case of orthonormal wavelet bases.
However, for specific highly redundant frames other limiting laws may occur. We
indeed verify that the translation invariant wavelet transform shows a
different asymptotic behaviour.Comment: [Content: 39 pages, 4 figures] Note that in this version 4 we have

Non-equispaced B-spline wavelets
This paper has three main contributions. The first is the construction of
wavelet transforms from B-spline scaling functions defined on a grid of
non-equispaced knots. The new construction extends the equispaced,
biorthogonal, compactly supported Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau wavelets. The new
construction is based on the factorisation of wavelet transforms into lifting
steps. The second and third contributions are new insights on how to use these
and other wavelets in statistical applications. The second contribution is
related to the bias of a wavelet representation. It is investigated how the
fine scaling coefficients should be derived from the observations. In the
context of equispaced data, it is common practice to simply take the
observations as fine scale coefficients. It is argued in this paper that this
is not acceptable for non-interpolating wavelets on non-equidistant data.
Finally, the third contribution is the study of the variance in a
non-orthogonal wavelet transform in a new framework, replacing the numerical
condition as a measure for non-orthogonality. By controlling the variances of
the reconstruction from the wavelet coefficients, the new framework allows us
to design wavelet transforms on irregular point sets with a focus on their use
for smoothing or other applications in statistics.Comment: 42 pages, 2 figure
Applying B-Spline Biorthogonal Wavelet Basis Functions to the Method of Moments in Solving Poisson equation
The aim of this paper is to introduce the application of B-spline biorthogonal wavelet with various orders (number of vanishing moments) in Electrostatic problems and making improvement in the moment method development. Due to the order of wavelet, the impedance matrix resulting in this problem is sparsified by wavelet, and consequently, the solution can be obtained rapidly. To illustrate these concepts, the two-body problem of parallel square conducting plates is presented. To demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed technique, numerical results for charge density potential, capacity, and error relative for different order of B-spline biorthogonal wavelets and dielectric constant are presented. Results are compared to the previous work done and published, excellent results are obtained
Locally supported, piecewise polynomial biorthogona wavelets on non-uniform meshes
In this paper, biorthogonal wavelets are constructed on non-uniform meshes. Both primal and dual wavelets are explicitly given locally supported, continuous piecewise polynomials. The wavelets generate Riesz bases for the Sobolev spaces H s
for j s j < 3 2 . The wavelets at the primal side span standard Lagrange nite element spaces
Adaptive transient solution of nonuniform multiconductor transmission lines using wavelets
Abstract—This paper presents a highly adaptive algorithm for the transient simulation of nonuniform interconnects loaded with arbitrary nonlinear and dynamic terminations. The discretization of the governing equations is obtained through a weak formula-tion using biorthogonal wavelet bases as trial and test functions. It is shown how the multiresolution properties of wavelets lead to very sparse approximations of the voltages and currents in typical transient analyzes. A simple yet effective time–space adaptive al-gorithm capable of selecting the minimal number of unknowns at each time iteration is described. Numerical results show the high degree of adaptivity of the proposed scheme. Index Terms—Electromagnetic (EM) transient analysis, multi-conductor transmission lines (TLs), wavelet transforms. I
