    Optimal fuzzy iterative learning control based on artificial bee colony for vibration control of piezoelectric smart structures

    Combining P-type iterative learning (IL) control, fuzzy logic control and artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm, a new optimal fuzzy IL controller is designed for active vibration control of piezoelectric smart structures. In order to accelerate the learning speed of feedback gain, the fuzzy logic controller is integrated into the ANSYS finite element (FE) models by using APDL (ANSYS Parameter Design Language) approach to adjust adaptively the learning gain of P-type IL control. For improving the performance and robustness of the fuzzy logic controller as well as diminishing human intervention in the operation process, ABC algorithm is used to automatically identify the optimal configurations for values in fuzzy query table, fuzzification parameters and defuzzification parameters, and the main program of ABC algorithm is operated in MATLAB. The active vibration equations are driven from the FE equations for the dynamic response of a linear elastic piezoelectric smart structure. Considering the vibrations generated by various external disturbances, the optimal fuzzy IL controller is numerically investigated for a clamped piezoelectric smart plate. Results demonstrate that the proposed control approach makes the feedback gain has a fast learning speed and performs excellent in vibration suppression. This is demonstrated in the results by comparing the new control approach with the P-type IL control

    Fuzzy logic controller parameter optimization using metaheuristic Cuckoo search algorithm for a magnetic levitation system

    The main benefits of fuzzy logic control (FLC) allow a qualitative knowledge of the desired system’s behavior to be included as IF-THEN linguistic rules for the control of dynamical systems where either an analytic model is not available or is too complex due, for instance, to the presence of nonlinear terms. The computational structure requires the definition of the FLC parameters namely, membership functions (MF) and a rule base (RB) defining the desired control policy. However, the optimization of the FLC parameters is generally carried out by means of a trial and error procedure or, more recently by using metaheuristic nature-inspired algorithms, for instance, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, cuckoo search, etc. In this regard, the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm as one of the most promising and relatively recent developed nature-inspired algorithms, has been used to optimize FLC parameters in a limited variety of applications to determine the optimum FLC parameters of only the MF but not to the RB, as an extensive search in the literature has shown. In this paper, an optimization procedure based on the CS algorithm is presented to optimize all the parameters of the FLC, including the RB, and it is applied to a nonlinear magnetic levitation system.     Battery Charge Control in Solar Photovoltaic Systems Based on Fuzzy Logic and Jellyfish Optimization Algorithm

    The study focuses on the integration of a fuzzy logic-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system, an optimized proportional Integral-based voltage controller, and the Jellyfish Optimization Algorithm into a solar PV battery setup. This integrated approach aims to enhance energy harvesting efficiency under varying environmental conditions. The study’s innovation lies in effectively addressing challenges posed by diverse environmental factors and loads. The utilization of MATLAB 2022a Simulink for modeling and the Jellyfish Optimization Algorithm for PI-controller tuning further strengthens our findings. Testing scenarios, including constant and variable irradiation, underscore the significant enhancements achieved through the integration of fuzzy MPPT and the Jellyfish Optimization Algorithm with the PI-based voltage controller.     An artificial immune systems based predictive modelling approach for the multi-objective elicitation of Mamdani fuzzy rules: a special application to modelling alloys

    In this paper, a systematic multi-objective Mamdani fuzzy modeling approach is proposed, which can be viewed as an extended version of the previously proposed Singleton fuzzy modeling paradigm. A set of new back-error propagation (BEP) updating formulas are derived so that they can replace the old set developed in the singleton version. With the substitution, the extension to the multi-objective Mamdani Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems (FRBS) is almost endemic. Due to the carefully chosen output membership functions, the inference and the defuzzification methods, a closed form integral can be deducted for the defuzzification method, which ensures the efficiency of the developed Mamdani FRBS. Some important factors, such as the variable length coding scheme and the rule alignment, are also discussed. Experimental results for a real data set from the steel industry suggest that the proposed approach is capable of eliciting not only accurate but also transparent FRBS with good generalization ability
