Deep reinforcement learning für workload balance und Fälligkeitskontrolle in wafer fabs

    Get PDF
Semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities (wafer fabs) often prioritize two operational objectives: work-in-process (WIP) and due date. WIP-oriented and due date-oriented dispatching rules are two commonly used methods to achieve workload balance and on-time delivery, respectively. However, it often requires sophisticated heuristics to achieve both objectives simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a novel approach using deep-Q-network reinforcement learning (DRL) for dispatching in wafer fabs. The DRL approach differs from traditional dispatching methods by using dispatch agents at work-centers to observe state changes in the wafer fabs. The agents train their deep-Q-networks by taking the states as inputs, allowing them to select the most appropriate dispatch action. Additionally, the reward function is integrated with workload and due date information on both local and global levels. Compared to the traditional WIP and due date-oriented rules, as well as heuristics-based rule in literature, the DRL approach is able to produce better global performance with regard to workload balance and on-time delivery

    Production Scheduling

    Get PDF
Generally speaking, scheduling is the procedure of mapping a set of tasks or jobs (studied objects) to a set of target resources efficiently. More specifically, as a part of a larger planning and scheduling process, production scheduling is essential for the proper functioning of a manufacturing enterprise. This book presents ten chapters divided into five sections. Section 1 discusses rescheduling strategies, policies, and methods for production scheduling. Section 2 presents two chapters about flow shop scheduling. Section 3 describes heuristic and metaheuristic methods for treating the scheduling problem in an efficient manner. In addition, two test cases are presented in Section 4. The first uses simulation, while the second shows a real implementation of a production scheduling system. Finally, Section 5 presents some modeling strategies for building production scheduling systems. This book will be of interest to those working in the decision-making branches of production, in various operational research areas, as well as computational methods design. People from a diverse background ranging from academia and research to those working in industry, can take advantage of this volume

Dynamic Impact for Ant Colony Optimization algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper proposes an extension method for Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm called Dynamic Impact. Dynamic Impact is designed to solve challenging optimization problems that has nonlinear relationship between resource consumption and fitness in relation to other part of the optimized solution. This proposed method is tested against complex real-world Microchip Manufacturing Plant Production Floor Optimization (MMPPFO) problem, as well as theoretical benchmark Multi-Dimensional Knapsack problem (MKP). MMPPFO is a non-trivial optimization problem, due the nature of solution fitness value dependence on collection of wafer-lots without prioritization of any individual wafer-lot. Using Dynamic Impact on single objective optimization fitness value is improved by 33.2%. Furthermore, MKP benchmark instances of small complexity have been solved to 100% success rate where high degree of solution sparseness is observed, and large instances have showed average gap improved by 4.26 times. Algorithm implementation demonstrated superior performance across small and large datasets and sparse optimization problems.Intel Corporatio

A Distributed-Ledger, Edge-Computing Architecture for Automation and Computer Integration in Semiconductor Manufacturing

Contemporary 300mm semiconductor manufacturing systems have highly automated and digitalized cyber-physical integration. They suffer from the profound problems of integrating large, centralized legacy systems with small islands of automation. With the recent advances in disruptive technologies, semiconductor manufacturing has faced dramatic pressures to reengineer its automation and computer integrated systems. This paper proposes a Distributed- Ledger, Edge-Computing Architecture (DLECA) for automation and computer integration in semiconductor manufacturing. Based on distributed ledger and edge computing technologies, DLECA establishes a decentralized software framework where manufacturing data are stored in distributed ledgers and processed locally by executing smart contracts at the edge nodes. We adopt an important topic of automation and computer integration for semiconductor research & development (R&D) operations as the study vehicle to illustrate the operational structure and functionality, applications, and feasibility of the proposed DLECA software framewor
