Supply chain control: Trade-offs and system requirements

It sets out the complexities in modern capitalism and global economics and illustrates the trade-offs that can be made. IT systems which are required to assist improvements to both customer service and enterprise manufacturing performance are explained, alluding to the special case for the semiconductor industry. Arguments are presented showing how the new tools being developed with the ESPRIT project 20544, X-CITTIC, will satisfy the control needs for a virtual enterprise. Decision Support Tools for Cloud Migration in the Enterprise
This paper describes two tools that aim to support decision making during the
migration of IT systems to the cloud. The first is a modeling tool that
produces cost estimates of using public IaaS clouds. The tool enables IT
architects to model their applications, data and infrastructure requirements in
addition to their computational resource usage patterns. The tool can be used
to compare the cost of different cloud providers, deployment options and usage
scenarios. The second tool is a spreadsheet that outlines the benefits and
risks of using IaaS clouds from an enterprise perspective; this tool provides a
starting point for risk assessment. Two case studies were used to evaluate the
tools. The tools were useful as they informed decision makers about the costs,

Decision-focussed resource modelling for design decision support
Resource management including resource allocation, levelling, configuration and monitoring has been recognised as critical to design decision making. It has received increasing research interests in recent years. Different definitions, models and systems have been developed and published in literature. One common issue with existing research is that the resource modelling has focussed on the information view of resources. A few acknowledged the importance of resource capability to design management, but none has addressed the evaluation analysis of resource fitness to effectively support design decisions. This paper proposes a decision-focused resource model framework that addresses the combination of resource evaluation with resource information from multiple perspectives. A resource management system constructed on the resource model framework can provide functions for design engineers to efficiently search and retrieve the best fit resources (based on the evaluation results) to meet decision requirements. Thus, the system has the potential to provide improved decision making performance compared with existing resource management systems
The financial clouds review
This paper demonstrates financial enterprise portability, which involves moving entire application services from desktops to clouds and between different clouds, and is transparent to users who can work as if on their familiar systems. To demonstrate portability, reviews for several financial models are studied, where Monte Carlo Methods (MCM) and Black Scholes Model (BSM) are chosen. A special technique in MCM, Least Square Methods, is used to reduce errors while performing accurate calculations. The coding algorithm for MCM written in MATLAB is explained. Simulations for MCM are performed on different types of Clouds. Benchmark and experimental results are presented for discussion. 3D Black Scholes are used to explain the impacts and added values for risk analysis, and three different scenarios with 3D risk analysis are explained. We also discuss implications for banking and ways to track risks in order to improve accuracy. We have used a conceptual Cloud platform to explain our contributions in Financial Software as a Service (FSaaS) and the IBM Fined Grained Security Framework. Our objective is to demonstrate portability, speed, accuracy and reliability of applications in the clouds, while demonstrating portability for FSaaS and the Cloud Computing Business Framework (CCBF), which is proposed to deal with cloud portability
BUSINESS INTELLIGENT AGENTS FOR ENTERPRISE APPLICATION
Fierce competition in a market increasingly crowded and frequent changes in consumer requirements are the main forces that will cause companies to change their current organization and management. One solution is to move to open architectures and virtual type, which requires addressing business methods and technologies using distributed multi-agent systems. Modified Stage-Gate: A Conceptual Model of Virtual Product Development Process
In today s dynamic marketplace, manufacturing companies are under strong
pressure to introduce new products for long-term survival with their
competitors. Nevertheless, every company cannot cope up progressively or
immediately with the market requirements due to knowledge dynamics being
experienced in the competitive milieu. Increased competition and reduced
product life cycles put force upon companies to develop new products faster. In
response to these pressing needs, there should be some new approach compatible
in flexible circumstances. This paper presents a solution based on the popular
Stage-Gate system, which is closely linked with virtual team approach. Virtual
teams can provide a platform to advance the knowledge-base in a company and
thus to reduce time-to-market. This article introduces conceptual product
development architecture under a virtual team umbrella. The paper describes all
the major aspects of new product development (NPD), NPD process and its
relationship with virtual teams, Stage-Gate system finally presents a modified
Stage-Gate system to cope up with the changing needs. It also provides the
guidelines for the successful implementation of virtual teams in new product
