Children are getting more exposed to various technologies in teaching-learning. Various types of teaching-learning have been designed, including interactive digital storytelling. In Malaysia, local children have been clear about story-based learning materials. However, the situation is a little bit different with Arab children. Because the number of Arab children migrating into Malaysia is increasing, for following their parents who are studying at higher levels, they have to also make themselves familiar with the local scenario. In accordance, this study is initiates, to identify their acceptance towards story-based learning materials, or specifically interactive digital storytelling. Hence, this study reacts proactively, by approaching Arab children asking for their feedback on whether they have any desire for interactive digital storytelling. Through a series of interviews, this study found that they have a strong desire and tendency. Then, the following objectives have been stated: (1) to determine the components for the interactive digital storytelling for Arab children, (2) to design and develop a prototype of the interactive digital storytelling, and (3) to observe on how the Arab children experience the interactive digital storytelling. User-centered design (UCD) approach has been gone through in ensuring that the objectives are achieved. The process of determining the components for the interactive digital storytelling was carried out by directly involving Arab children and their teachers from three preschools in Changlun and Sintok. It was similar with the efforts in determining the contents, and interface design until the prototype development. Having the prototype ready, user testing was carried out to explore the way Arab children experience the prototype. All the processes involved various techniques through observation, interviews, and noting. Specifically, the user testing involved qualitative and empirical data. Qualitative data were gathered through observation, meanwhile the empirical data were gathered using Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) tool. In the end, having data processed, the findings show that Arab children are highly satisfied with the prototype. Scientifically, the developed prototype is a mirror of the obtained guidelines, obtained through the UCD seminars. Hence, the positive acceptance on the prototype reflects positive acceptance on the guidelines, as the main contribution of this study. Besides the guidelines as the main contribution of this study, the developed prototype is also a wonderful contribution to the Arab children and their teacher. They will be using it as part of their teaching and learning material

Today technology is growing rapidly. This makes us (humans) become digital natives so not only adults but teenagers have now spread to consume technology, especially social media. The world of video editing is no longer a stranger to teenagers, especially the students of Al-Rifa'ie Gondanglegi Modern Junior High School Malang. So in this case the researcher implements a learning strategy that combines maharah al-kalam learning with today's technological advances, namely digital storytelling (DST). This strategy makes students want to practice maharah al-kalam but in a more contemporary way, which is packaged via video. The purpose of this research is to find out the application of digital storytelling strategy (DST) in learning maharah al-kalam and also to know some problems in its application. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of the research are that this method is a method that combines many student skills ranging from speaking skills, writing skills, presentation skills (performing) and skills in using technology. And the problem that occurs when learning is the lack of students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary so that in the preparation of the script it is a bit hampered and the limited use of laptop / cellphone media because the majority of students are students who live in Islamic boarding schools so that the time in the video editing process is a bit long. The advantages of this strategy are that it is interesting to use in a variety of student learning styles, arouses student interest, attention and motivation in the classroom, makes digital storytelling (DST) based on students' own creative talents, digital storytelling (DST) as a tool to create a creative learning and can increase students' self-confidence

The purpose of this research study was to examine how pre-service teachers in a college of education in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) used multimodal digital storytelling to explore their language and literacy learning experiences in Arabic and English. Twenty-one pre-service teachers participated in this qualitative study. Drawing on the digital stories, reflection papers and open-ended surveys as data, the study explored the pre-service teachers’ bilingual literacy language experiences and how they created their digital stories. Emerging themes included early experiences in language and literacy learning at home and at school, and expanded notions of literacy. The memoirs offered a glimpse into the cultures, linguistic development and schooling of the participants and importance of using multimodal digital storytelling to support literacy and language learning in ESL/EFL contexts

The Role of the Narrative in Values-Led Business

    Get PDF
Many leaders of values-based organizations already possess the requisite passion for the core values of their respective organizations. The ability to have their organizations perform in a manner consistent with these values is critical to gain the authenticity necessary for their audiences in order to discern the value of what that particular organization offers. The inability to articulate this to all stakeholders — including the marketplace, investors, employees, and competitors — may increase the hazard of mortality for the organization. One characteristic that human beings do not share with any other creature on earth is the ability to relate complex narratives. Narratives in leadership are synonymous with storytelling in organizations. Narratives have a much broader connotation. Narratives are an ancient art form and have the ability to create a connection between the narrator and the audience. If related well, it can create a sense of community, hone a common focus, and provide a stimulus for change. Most organizations need to address a common problem of implementing leadership tools resulting in the best outcomes for decisions. Poor leadership will inevitably increase the likelihood of organizational failure. They need to implement mechanisms that will increase positive outcomes. This paper reviews examples of leadership under impossible odds. It will reveal the necessary foundational material to provide a solid background. Next, it will address the common elements of an effective narrative as well as the importance that authenticity plays in its reception. Lastly, the elements of narrative leadership and the power it can give to those leaders who learn how to use narratives effectively will be addressed. Examples will demonstrate how effective narratives used by leaders of values-based organizations can eliminate obstacles and help their organizations perform audaciously

Storytelling techniques serve as dynamic tools for enhancing language skills, encompassing both receptive (listening, reading) and productive (speaking, writing) proficiencies. In contrast to their non-narrative counterparts, these techniques offer a more potent array of teaching methodologies. This study aims to elucidate the current landscape of research concerning the efficacy of storytelling techniques. Initially, the investigation delves into the cognitive processing of narratives. Stories engage language processing centers, invigorate the visual cortex, evoke emotive responses, and facilitate comprehension of intricate information. Subsequently, the study explores linguistic processing theory and embodied cognition theory. Through an exhaustive literature review, this research applies a rigorous evidence synthesis method to assess selected studies, culminating in the amalgamation of findings when comparability permits. The study unveils that storytelling techniques foster reading and listening comprehension, bolster speaking and writing skills, and kindle creativity and imagination. Moreover, enhancements span vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. Nonetheless, while generally efficacious, the uniformity of effectiveness across diverse learners remains a nuanced aspect

Innovative programs are introduced to educational institutions to enhance teaching and student learning. One of these innovative programs is the Lughati for Smart Education Initiative meant to strengthen students’ learning at the Kindergarten level in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The aim of this study is to determine the impact of the Lughati Smart Education initiative on the acquisition of Arabic language skills among kindergarteners and what are the strengths and areas that need improvement in the Lughati program from the point of view of the teachers who implemented the Smart Education program. A quantitative research approach was used to conduct the study, with a sample size of (100) children. Fifty of the students who underwent the Lughati Smart Education program were selected through purposeful sampling and they are considered as an experimental group and the other (50) who did not are considered as the control group. Also included in the study is a sample of one hundred teachers from the Emirate of Sharjah who have been involved in delivering Lughati Smart Education Program. The results of the study show that there are statistically significant differences in the variables related to reading skills, analysis, structure, concepts, and the achievement test in favour of the students who attended the Lughati program. However, there was no significant difference between the control and experimental groups in writing skills. As for teachers’ feedback on the Smart Education Program (Lughati Initiative), it was found that most teachers indicated that the program helped develop the student’s language proficiency, language skills through educational songs, reading skills, spelling, and handwriting. Based on the data, the study makes a number of recommendations, the most significant of which is to implement the initiative across all states and public schools in the country. In addition, it recommended that the program should be linked to the curricula devised by the Ministry of Education. School teachers should also attend training courses in smart education, and the program should be regularly updated

Touristic awareness for kindergarten children is a neglected subject in early childhood research, although the importance of cultural and social impact on the children’s national identity, sense of belonging and loyalty to the homeland. Accordingly, we aimed to examine the impact of electronic stories, which identify the most important touristic elements of Saudi Arabia, on developing touristic awareness among kindergarten children. The study used an experimental approach, wherein a touristic awareness pictorial scale had been developed for a randomly chosen sample of 60 kindergarten children (boys and girls). The aforementioned scale had been applied before and after on the sample of study. A number of electronic stories of the most important historical and touristic elements of Saudi Arabia had been designed and presented to the children who were divided into two groups experimental and control (each of 30 children; 5-6 years old). The results revealed that the proposed electronic stories are of great effectiveness on developing the children’s touristic awareness and in turn sense of belonging and loyalty to their homeland.
