Modelling crisis management for improved action and preparedness (CRISMA): Modelling submersion on the Charente-Maritime coast
International audienceCRISMA is a Research and Development project financed by the European Community. Its objective is to develop a simulation-based decision support system, in different domains of the natural or industrial risk (flood, snowstorm, seism, forest fires, accidental pollution, urban accidents). The application in France, coordinated by ARTELIA Eau & Environnement, is devoted to the submersion risk on the Charente-Maritime coast and based on the experience feedback of the storm Xynthia in February, 2010. In this framework, a specific work is in progress through a thesis realized in collaboration between ARTELIA and lNRIA. Its objective is to elaborate a methodology of multi-model coupling which should be effective and applicable for the CRISMA project. These models may differ in several ways, related either to the physics and/or to the numeric concepts. The developed methodology may allow to taking into account more specific areas (urban zone, bridge in charge, …), but also should be able to simplify the simulation by dimension changes of model parts (for example, a 1D model for rivers, and a 2D one for sea). The present work addresses more specifically the problem of coupling models with different spatial dimensions
Alternative sweetener from curculigo fruits
This study gives an overview on the advantages of Curculigo Latifolia as an alternative sweetener and a health product. The purpose of this research is to provide another option to the people who suffer from diabetes. In this research, Curculigo Latifolia was chosen, due to its unique properties and widely known species in Malaysia. In order to obtain the sweet protein from the fruit, it must go through a couple of procedures. First we harvested the fruits from the Curculigo trees that grow wildly in the garden. Next, the Curculigo fruits were dried in the oven at 50 0C for 3 days. Finally, the dried fruits were blended in order to get a fine powder. Curculin is a sweet protein with a taste-modifying activity of converting sourness to sweetness. The curculin content from the sample shown are directly proportional to the mass of the Curculigo fine powder. While the FTIR result shows that the sample spectrum at peak 1634 cm–1 contains secondary amines. At peak 3307 cm–1 contains alkynes

Construction safety and digital design: a review
As digital technologies become widely used in designing buildings and infrastructure, questions arise about
their impacts on construction safety. This review explores relationships between construction safety and
digital design practices with the aim of fostering and directing further research. It surveys state-of-the-art
research on databases, virtual reality, geographic information systems, 4D CAD, building information
modeling and sensing technologies, finding various digital tools for addressing safety issues in the
construction phase, but few tools to support design for construction safety. It also considers a literature on
safety critical, digital and design practices that raises a general concern about ‘mindlessness’ in the use of
technologies, and has implications for the emerging research agenda around construction safety and digital
design. Bringing these strands of literature together suggests new kinds of interventions, such as the
development of tools and processes for using digital models to promote mindfulness through multi-party

Data-based fault detection in chemical processes: Managing records with operator intervention and uncertain labels
Developing data-driven fault detection systems for chemical plants requires managing uncertain data labels and dynamic attributes due to operator-process interactions. Mislabeled data is a known problem in computer science that has received scarce attention from the process systems community. This work introduces and examines the effects of operator actions in records and labels, and the consequences in the development of detection models. Using a state space model, this work proposes an iterative relabeling scheme for retraining classifiers that continuously refines dynamic attributes and labels. Three case studies are presented: a reactor as a motivating example, flooding in a simulated de-Butanizer column, as a complex case, and foaming in an absorber as an industrial challenge. For the first case, detection accuracy is shown to increase by 14% while operating costs are reduced by 20%. Moreover, regarding the de-Butanizer column, the performance of the proposed strategy is shown to be 10% higher than the filtering strategy. Integrating BIM and Planning Software for Health and Safety Site Induction
Project management software packages have been around for quite a long time to help managers to run construction projects effectively. Building Information Modelling – also known as Object-orientated Modelling technology was used at the beginning in architectural design which has become more widespread in structural and services engineering. The development of BIM modelling has made the tool more users friendly. As a result, BIM became widely used by most practitioners in their specialist areas. For health and safety practitioners within construction project management, This tool has not been fully explored. BIM technology has the potential to be used in safety planning procedures particularly those related to tasks on construction sites.
The section of the research presented in this paper intend to explore and review health and safety issues on construction site with the sole intension of using better visualisation software to meet the needs of health and safety site practitioners in understanding such H&S problems. A framework needed for better H&S practice on site that may be used actively by all practitioners will be developed. The intension is to find a way forward in addressing ‘real’ health and safety site issues that may not be easy to be understood by practitioners without the full aid of visualisation.
