Multiobjective optimization as a decision aid for managing build-to-order supply chains
This paper provides an overview of multiobjective optimization (MOO) as a decision aid in
build-to-order supply chains (BTO-SC). The main features of BTO-SCs are discussed along
with capabilities of MOO to enhance decision making at different points along the chain.
Key decision points across a typical BTO-SC are identified and potential applications of
MOO are discussed. A sample application is presented and future avenues for further research
highlighted
Shipbuilding 4.0 Index Approaching Supply Chain
The shipbuilding industry shows a special interest in adapting to the changes proposed by
the industry 4.0. This article bets on the development of an index that indicates the current situation
considering that supply chain is a key factor in any type of change, and at the same time it serves as a
control tool in the implementation of improvements. The proposed indices provide a first definition
of the paradigm or paradigms that best fit the supply chain in order to improve its sustainability and
a second definition, regarding the key enabling technologies for Industry 4.0. The values obtained
put shipbuilding on the road to industry 4.0 while suggesting categorized planning of technologies
Strategic sourcing:a combined QFD and AHP approach in manufacturing
Purpose â This paper aims to develop an integrated analytical approach, combining quality function deployment (QFD) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach, to enhance the effectiveness of sourcing decisions. Design/methodology/approach â In the approach, QFD is used to translate the company stakeholder requirements into multiple evaluating factors for supplier selection, which are used to benchmark the suppliers. AHP is used to determine the importance of evaluating factors and preference of each supplier with respect to each selection criterion. Findings â The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by applying it to a UK-based automobile manufacturing company. With QFD, the evaluating factors are related to the strategic intent of the company through the involvement of concerned stakeholders. This ensures successful strategic sourcing. The application of AHP ensures consistent supplier performance measurement using benchmarking approach. Research limitations/implications â The proposed integrated approach can be principally adopted in other decision-making scenarios for effective management of the supply chain. Practical implications â The proposed integrated approach can be used as a group-based decision support system for supplier selection, in which all relevant stakeholders are involved to identify various quantitative and qualitative evaluating criteria, and their importance. Originality/value â Various approaches that can deal with multiple and conflicting criteria have been adopted for the supplier selection. However, they fail to consider the impact of business objectives and the requirements of company stakeholders in the identification of evaluating criteria for strategic supplier selection. The proposed integrated approach outranks the conventional approaches to supplier selection and supplier performance measurement because the sourcing strategy and supplier selection are derived from the corporate/business strategy

The decision of the supplier selection is very important for a company to be successful. Selecting the right suppliers will decrease companyâs purchasing cost, increase customer satisfaction and improve the competition capacity. This paper is dealt with supplier selection problem. AHP and TOPSIS, multiple criteria decision making methods, are applied together to select the most suitable supplier for a business firm. Quality, cost, delivery and service criteria that are mostly used in literature are defined as main criteria in the paper, and also their sub-criteria are defined. AHP method is used to determine the importance degree of main criteria and sub-criteria, TOPSIS method is developed to rank the suppliers. In AHP method, the weights of criterion and inconsistency rate are obtained by Super Decision 2.0.8 program. Microsoft Excel 2007 is used in TOPSIS method. Finally, the most important criterion is determined as âqualityâ and among the present suppliers of the business firm, âA2 supplierâ is selected as the one which has the highest score.AHP, TOPSIS, Supplier Selection
