    Enterprise Adoption Oriented Cloud Computing Performance Optimization

    Cloud computing in the Enterprise has emerged as a new paradigm that brings both business opportunities and software engineering challenges. In Cloud computing, business participants such as service providers, enterprise solutions, and marketplace applications are required to adopt a Cloud architecture engineered for security and performance. One of the major hurdles of formal adoption of Cloud solutions in the enterprise is performance. Enterprise applications (e.g., SAP, SharePoint, Yammer, Lync Server, and Exchange Server) require a mechanism to predict and manage performance expectations in a secure way. This research addresses two areas of performance challenges: Capacity planning to ensure resources are provisioned in a way that meets requirements while minimizing total cost of ownership; and optimization to authentication protocols that enable enterprise applications to authenticate among each other and meet the performance requirements for enterprise servers, including third party marketplace applications. For the first set of optimizations, the theory was formulated using a stochastic process where multiple experiments were monitored and data collected over time. The results were then validated using a real-life enterprise product called Lync Server. The second set of optimizations was achieved by introducing provisioning steps to pre-establish trust among enterprise applications servers, the associated authorisation server, and the clients interested in access to protected resources. In this architecture, trust is provisioned and synchronized as a pre-requisite step 3 to authentication among all communicating entities in the authentication protocol and referral tokens are used to establish trust federation for marketplace applications across organizations. Various case studies and validation on commercially available products were used throughout the research to illustrate the concepts. Such performance optimizations have proved to help enterprise organizations meet their scalability requirements. Some of the work produced has been adopted by Microsoft and made available as a downloadable tool that was used by customers around the globe assisting them with Cloud adoption

Synchromodal logistics has emerged recently to improve flexibility in supply chains, cooperation among stakeholders, and utilization of resources. We survey the existing scientific literature and real-life developments on synchromodality. We focus on the critical success factors of synchromodality and six categories of enabling technologies. We identify open research issues and propose the introduction of a new stakeholder, which takes on the role of orchestrator to coordinate and provide services through a technology-based platform

    Cities are investing in data-driven smart technologies to improve performance and efficiency and to generate a vast amount of data. Finding the opportunities to innovatively use this data help governments and authorities to forecast, respond, and plan for future scenarios. Access to real-time data and information can provide effective services that improve productivity, resulting in environmental, social, and economic benefits. It also assists in the decision-making process and provides opportunities for community engagement and participation by improving digital literacy and culture. This paper aims to review and analyze current practices of data-driven smart applications that contribute to the smooth functioning of urban city systems and the problems they face. The research methodology is qualitative: a systematic and extensive literature review carried out by PRISMA method. Data and information from different case studies carried out globally assisted in the inductive approach. Content analysis identified smart city indicators and related criteria in the case study examples. The study concluded that smart people, smart living, and smart governance methods that have come into practice at a later stage are as important as smart mobility, smart environments, and smart economy measures that were implemented early on, and cities are opening up to new, transparent participatory governance approaches where citizens play a key role. It also illustrates that the current new wave of smart cities with real time data are promoting citizen participation focusing on human, social capital as an essential component in future cities

Software marketing make vital tactical decisions to exploit profits and success of the business (Öztürk, S., Okumuş, A., & Mutlu, F. 2012). As a result, the proposed project aims to improve online Bengali Idiomatic Proverb Service Model for service of excellence as well as create a business model canvas with marketing plan to observe current market situation of proposed service model that will forecast sales of profit. Therefore, the proposed research has used technological model to get good decision for marketing plan. Good decision assists to increase high number of productivity and profitability because computerized systems which assist the marketing decision to improve marketing plan (Dragomir, C., & Surugiu, F. 2015). In this case, the proposed project has chosen four different types of steps. There are Bengali Idiomatic Proverb Service Model, Online payment model, Business Model Canvas with Marketing plan. The propose project has used visual studio.net, HTML, CSS, nine building blocks for Business model canvas and kotler’s and keller’s marketing plan to develop a model for Bengali Idiomatic proverb service

    Costa Rica's Payments for Ecosystems Services (PES) programme has become something of an icon in the world of conservation. Its innovative blend of economic and regulatory instruments - and its hitches and successes - provide a valuable source of inspiration for other countries that are looking for effective ways to conserve and regenerate ecosystems. Since 1997, nearly one million hectares of forest in Costa Rica have been part of the PES programme at one time or another, and forest cover has now returned to over 50 per cent of the country's land area, from a low of just 20 per cent in the 1980s. What lessons can be learnt from the 20 years since it was founded?     Recommendations to Harmonize Travel Behaviour Analysis

    Among several other efforts to identify data needs and to harmonize travel surveys in Europe, this report aims to define recommendations to collect and report travel data with the identification of main data needs and gaps, and with the analysis of alternative sources of information and new data collection techniques. Based on the findings of the previous tasks and a stakeholder workshop in OPTIMISM project, and after a brief review of past studies in the same direction, this report starts from a list of variables which are needed for policy making but are unavailable/insufficient in the context of existing data collection methodologies especially with respect to NTS. The report then, explores alternative sources of information, potential use of modern data collection techniques (mainly ICT applications such as GPS and smart phone technologies) and options to merge them with NTS data. Finally, it discusses recommendations for a Europe-wide travel survey considering the current data needs for policy making in transportation. The research has been conducted under the OPTIMISM project which was received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013), grant agreement n° 284892.     Ono: an open platform for social robotics

    In recent times, the focal point of research in robotics has shifted from industrial ro- bots toward robots that interact with humans in an intuitive and safe manner. This evolution has resulted in the subfield of social robotics, which pertains to robots that function in a human environment and that can communicate with humans in an int- uitive way, e.g. with facial expressions. Social robots have the potential to impact many different aspects of our lives, but one particularly promising application is the use of robots in therapy, such as the treatment of children with autism. Unfortunately, many of the existing social robots are neither suited for practical use in therapy nor for large scale studies, mainly because they are expensive, one-of-a-kind robots that are hard to modify to suit a specific need. We created Ono, a social robotics platform, to tackle these issues. Ono is composed entirely from off-the-shelf components and cheap materials, and can be built at a local FabLab at the fraction of the cost of other robots. Ono is also entirely open source and the modular design further encourages modification and reuse of parts of the platform
