    A fractional B-spline collocation method for the numerical solution of fractional predator-prey models

    We present a collocation method based on fractional B-splines for the solution of fractional differential problems. The key-idea is to use the space generated by the fractional B-splines, i.e., piecewise polynomials of noninteger degree, as approximating space. Then, in the collocation step the fractional derivative of the approximating function is approximated accurately and efficiently by an exact differentiation rule that involves the generalized finite difference operator. To show the effectiveness of the method for the solution of nonlinear dynamical systems of fractional order, we solved the fractional Lotka-Volterra model and a fractional predator-pray model with variable coefficients. The numerical tests show that the method we proposed is accurate while keeping a low computational cost

    Non-traditional Calculations of Elementary Mathematical Operations: Part 1. Multiplication and Division

    Different computational systems are a set of functional units and processors that can work together and exchange data with each other if required. In most cases, data transmission is organized in such a way that enables for the possibility of connecting each node of the system to the other node of the system. Thus, a computer system consists of components for performing arithmetic operations, and an integrated data communication system, which allows for information interaction between the nodes, and combines them into a single unit. When designing a given type of computer systems, problems might occur if:– computing nodes of the system cannot simultaneously start and finish data processing over a certain time interval;– procedures for processing data in the nodes of the system do not start and do not end at a certain time;– the number of computational nodes of the inputs and outputs of the system is different.This article proposes an unconventional approach to constructing a mathematical model of adaptive-quantum computation of arithmetic operations of multiplication and division using the principle of predetermined random self-organization proposed by Ashby in 1966, as well as the method of the dynamics of averages and of the adaptive system of integration of the system of logical-differential equations for the dynamics of number-average states of particles S1, S2 of sets. This would make it easier to solve some of the problems listed above

    Ecological Modelling with the Calculus of Wrapped Compartments

    The Calculus of Wrapped Compartments is a framework based on stochastic multiset rewriting in a compartmentalised setting originally developed for the modelling and analysis of biological interactions. In this paper, we propose to use this calculus for the description of ecological systems and we provide the modelling guidelines to encode within the calculus some of the main interactions leading ecosystems evolution. As a case study, we model the distribution of height of Croton wagneri, a shrub constituting the endemic predominant species of the dry ecosystem in southern Ecuador. In particular, we consider the plant at different altitude gradients (i.e. at different temperature conditions), to study how it adapts under the effects of global climate change.Comment: A preliminary version of this paper has been presented in CMC13 (LNCS 7762, pp 358-377, 2013

    Structural Derivative Model for Tissue Radiation Response

    By means of a recently-proposed metric or structural derivative, called scale-q-derivative approach, we formulate differential equation that models the cell death by a radiation exposure in tumor treatments. The considered independent variable here is the absorbed radiation dose D instead of usual time. The survival factor, Fs, for radiation damaged cell obtained here is in agreement with the literature on the maximum entropy principle, as it was recently shown and also exhibits an excellent agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, the well-known linear and quadratic models are obtained. With this approach, we give a step forward and suggest other expressions for survival factors that are dependent on the complex tumor structure.Comment: 6 pages, 2 collumn
