    A technique for evaluating the application of the pin-level stuck-at fault model to VLSI circuits

    Accurate fault models are required to conduct the experiments defined in validation methodologies for highly reliable fault-tolerant computers (e.g., computers with a probability of failure of 10 to the -9 for a 10-hour mission). Described is a technique by which a researcher can evaluate the capability of the pin-level stuck-at fault model to simulate true error behavior symptoms in very large scale integrated (VLSI) digital circuits. The technique is based on a statistical comparison of the error behavior resulting from faults applied at the pin-level of and internal to a VLSI circuit. As an example of an application of the technique, the error behavior of a microprocessor simulation subjected to internal stuck-at faults is compared with the error behavior which results from pin-level stuck-at faults. The error behavior is characterized by the time between errors and the duration of errors. Based on this example data, the pin-level stuck-at fault model is found to deliver less than ideal performance. However, with respect to the class of faults which cause a system crash, the pin-level, stuck-at fault model is found to provide a good modeling capability

    An integrated reusable remote laboratory to complement electronics teaching

    The great majority of the courses on science and technology areas where lab work is a fundamental part of the apprenticeship was not until recently available to be taught at distance. This reality is changing with the dissemination of remote laboratories. Supported by resources based on new information and communication technologies, it is now possible to remotely control a wide variety of real laboratories. However, most of them are designed specifically to this purpose, are inflexible and only on its functionality they resemble the real ones. In this paper, an alternative remote lab infrastructure devoted to the study of electronics is presented. Its main characteristics are, from a teacher's perspective, reusability and simplicity of use, and from a students' point of view, an exact replication of the real lab, enabling them to complement or finish at home the work started at class. The remote laboratory is integrated in the Learning Management System in use at the school, and therefore, may be combined with other web experiments and e-learning strategies, while safeguarding security access issues

    Instrumentation and Virtual Library for Air Pollution Monitoring

    In this work a data acquisition board (DAQB) with data transfer by serial port and the associated virtual library included into LabVIEW software are presented. The DAQB developed around a National Semiconductor LM 12458 device, have the capability to perform tasks that diminish the host processor work and is capable to communicate with the host computer by using a set of drivers associated. Highly integrated device circuit that has into it the most components of the board, facility in data handling, good metrological performance and a very low cost are the benefits of the proposed system. Using the LabView environment, we have realized a virtual instrument able to get from the prototype data acquisition board for environmental monitoring parameters the information about air pollution factors like CO, H2S, SO2, NO, NO2 etc. In order to get effective information about those factors and the monitoring points, this intelligent measurement system, compound from portable computer, and gas detector. This system can be used to map the information about the air pollution factors dispersion in order to answer to the needs of residential and industrial areas expansion

    MIND (Memory, Intelligence, and Network Device) is an advanced parallel computer architecture for high performance computing and scalable embedded processing. It is a Processor-in-Memory (PIM) architecture integrating both DRAM bit cells and CMOS logic devices on the same silicon die. MIND is multicore with multiple memory/processor nodes on each chip and supports global shared memory across systems of MIND components. MIND is distinguished from other PIM architectures in that it incorporates mechanisms for efficient support of a global parallel execution model based on the semantics of message-driven multithreaded split-transaction processing. MIND is designed to operate either in conjunction with other conventional microprocessors or in standalone arrays of like devices.
