    i-UTP Building Utilities Control using GSM - SMS Services

    Telecommunication system is one of the major components in industry. It can be summarized as the transmission, reception, and processing of information between two or more locations, using either digital or analogue transmission. The rapidly growing Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) industry has provided the need for further studies on its capabilities and producing more useful services. This project will combine the Short Messaging Service (SMS) with the Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) capability to produce another system that will be able to monitor and control the utilities in a certain building such as the air conditioner, lamps and doors. This system will make building monitoring and controlling a much easier task for the maintenance personnel. This system is also equipped with a security features to ensure that this system will not be misused by other unauthorized people. The platform that this project has built offers a wide variety of other new system. There are several projects that are being conducted using the same platform or principal as this project which is SMS based system. Among the topics is SMS Car Parking Payment, SMS Bill Reminder Payment Systems, Machine-to-Machine (M2M); Mobile-to-machine and Machine-to-mobile, Home Surveillance with Mobile Phones and Mobile Phone Based Ticketing (transportation, train, parking meters etc). It is hoped that this system will gives benefits to the community and can be implemented in real environment in the future

    Remote Control Car using Wi-Fi

    Wireless Fidelity, Wi-Fi utilize one of the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards to achieve a wireless network. In this project, author has to use Wi-Fi in controlling a Wi-Fi car. The problem statement, objectives and scope of studies for this project will be further explained in the first part of this report, the INTRODUCTION section. As for the scope of study, author explores Wi-Fitechnologyitself and the information gained was documented in LITERATURE REVIEW/THEORY chapter. The proposed METHODOLOGY used in this project is discussed in the next section, including the tools and software utilized in developing the system. As this project is meant to develop author understanding on wireless network, the results of this project are included in the RESULT AND DISCUSSION section. The last section, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION will conclude author activities throughout these two semesters and describe suggestions to enhance and overcome flaws of this project. Like all data structures of the computer, pixels are invisible and therefore require an output device to be seen. The physical unit of display, or physical pixel, can be any form that makes the pixel visible. Pixels are often represented as the electronically addressable phosphors of a video monitor, but the potential for different visualizations inspires the development of novel phenotypes. Four new systems of physical pixels are presented: Nami, Peano, the Digital Palette and 20/20 Refurbished. In each case, the combination of material, hardware and software design results in a unique visualization of computation.     A versatile data acquisition system for capturing electromagnetic emissions in VHF band

    This research investigates the occurrence of EM emissions from compressed rock and assesses their value as precursors to earthquakes. It is understood that electromagnetic emissions are accompanied by crack generation in the Earth's crust, and effort has been targeted on the analysis of electromagnetic signals preceding seismic events. There is a need for a robust Data Acquisition System for the reliable collection of such signals. The design and deployment of a novel system form part of this research. The EM data collected by the Data Acquisition System is subsequently analysed and correlations are made with natural phenomena. The design of the Data Acquisition System is presented and meets a specification which includes accuracy, robustness, power consumption, remote configurability achieved by the development of a novel architecture for flash memories which significantly increases the live span of these devices. The measuring of electromagnetic emissions should be performed by reliable systems, using devices that fully correspond to the specifications set by the needs of this research. This type of systems is not fully covered by existing commercial devices. These prototype VHF field stations (ground base - electromagnetic variation monitors in VHF band) are located around the Hellenic Are. This region is one of the most seismically active regions in western Eurasia due to subduction of the oceanic African lithosphere beneath the Eurasian plate. After approximately two years of electromagnetic VHF data collection, the final stage of this project took place. In this stage, possible correlation between naturally occurring electromagnetic emissions in VHF band and seismic events within a predefined radius around the observation location is investigated. Supplementary, effects of alternative electromagnetic sources, such as solar activity, is considered. Whilst EM emissions from compressed rocks can be demonstrated in the laboratory, it was found from a two-year evaluation that no reliable correlation with earthquake events could be established. However, significant patterns of activity were detected in EM spectrum and it was shown that these correlate strongly with other naturally occurring phenomena such as solar flares.
