Analog-Digital System Modeling for Electromagnetic Susceptibility Prediction

    Get PDF
The thesis is focused on the noise susceptibility of communication networks. These analog-mixed signal systems operate in an electrically noisy environment, in presence of multiple equipments connected by means of long wiring. Every module communicates using a transceiver as an interface between the local digital signaling and the data transmission through the network. Hence, the performance of the IC transceiver when affected by disturbances is one of the main factors that guarantees the EM immunity of the whole equipment. The susceptibility to RF and transient disturbances is addressed at component level on a CAN transceiver as a test case, highlighting the IC features critical for noise immunity. A novel procedure is proposed for the IC modeling for mixed-signal immunity simulations of communication networks. The procedure is based on a gray-box approach, modeling IC ports with a physical circuit and the internal links with a behavioural block. The parameters are estimated from time and frequency domain measurements, allowing accurate and efficient reproduction of non-linear device switching behaviours. The effectiveness of the modeling process is verified by applying the proposed technique to a CAN transceiver, involved in a real immunity test on a data communication link. The obtained model is successfully implemented in a commercial solver to predict both the functional signals and the RF noise immunity at component level. The noise immunity at system level is then evaluated on a complete communication network, analyzing the results of several tests on a realistic CAN bus. After developing models for wires and injection probes, a noise immunity test in avionic environment is carried out in a simulation environment, observing good overall accuracy and efficiency

WIRELESS PANT AND TILT SURVEILLANCE PLATFORM

The main objective of this project is to have a wireless pan and tilt platform. One platform will track an object or person of interest until it is out of the camera viewfield or platform limit. The next camera on the second platform will continue tracking the image. This project involves the study on wireless system available and how these wireless systems can be implemented into the project. The examples of wireless system available are Bluetooth, wifi, Radio frequency and infra red. Research has been made into the availability of each wireless system and the task is focusing on the transferring the input data wirelessly from computer to the servo motor by using RF and also bluetooth module. Testing method is developed by doing some experiment in transferring the data and the performance measurements is taking into consideration in completing the project. For the RF module, C codes for PIC microcontroller at the transmitter and receiver side is developed. For the Bluetooth module, the device is setup so that to transfer data wirelessly once the link is established

Design and Evaluation of Radiation-Hardened Standard Cell Flip-Flops

Use of a standard non-rad-hard digital cell library in the rad-hard design can be a cost-effective solution for space applications. In this paper we demonstrate how a standard non-rad-hard flip-flop, as one of the most vulnerable digital cells, can be converted into a rad-hard flip-flop without modifying its internal structure. We present five variants of a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) flip-flop: baseline TMR flip-flop, latch-based TMR flip-flop, True-Single Phase Clock (TSPC) TMR flip-flop, scannable TMR flip-flop and self-correcting TMR flip-flop. For all variants, the multi-bit upsets have been addressed by applying special placement constraints, while the Single Event Transient (SET) mitigation was achieved through the usage of customized SET filters and selection of optimal inverter sizes for the clock and reset trees. The proposed flip-flop variants feature differing performance, thus enabling to choose the optimal solution for every sensitive node in the circuit, according to the predefined design constraints. Several flip-flop designs have been validated on IHP’s 130nm BiCMOS process, by irradiation of custom-designed shift registers. It has been shown that the proposed TMR flip-flops are robust to soft errors with a threshold Linear Energy Transfer (LET) from ( 32.4 (MeV⋅cm2/mg) ) to ( 62.5 (MeV⋅cm2/mg) ), depending on the variant

Digital Control System for Vertical Stability of the TCV Plasma

    Get PDF
In advanced mode operation of fusion devices, real time control plays a central role in achieving the desired plasma performance and minimizing the risk of disruptions. With the advances in digital technologies like Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and standard commercial computer processors, the development of digital control systems to use in fusion experiments has spread to all modern tokamaks. Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) had limited control capabilities due to the utilization of an analogue control system. In the first part of the PhD Program an Advanced Plasma Control System (APCS), capable of improving the capacity of control of highly configurable plasma shapes, position, current and density by the introduction of nonlinear digital controllers, was designed, implemented and integrated in TCV. Early tokamaks with circular cross-section plasmas were not prone to the vertical plasma column instability, an inherent problem arising in plasmas with vertically elongated cross sections, with benefits to the energy confinement time, increased plasma current and beta. To overcome this problem, complex closed feedback loop control systems with a vertical position measurement, signal processing, control algorithm, power supplies and active actuating coils are used. In the second part of the PhD Program a predictive vertical stabilization non-linear digital controller was designed and implemented, with the help of a new mathematical simulator based on a rigid plasma model. The layout of a method to define controllable limits for the plasma position and velocity may be used for the design of new control systems. Evidence is presented of the TCV vertical stability enhancement using the implemented controller during experimental tokamak discharges
