With the scarcity of fresh water, desalination is an important instrument to be considered for the production of non-salinized water through waste heat in the dual use of nuclear reactors. The gap that this study seeks to fill is related to the use of bibliometric method, based on information structure, about the scientific studies indexed on the evolution of the topic desalination in nuclear power plants. The objective of this work is to map the themes in the scientific literature between 1966 and the first semester of 2017. Data were collected from the research activities indexed by the SCOPUS database and analyzed with the support of bibliometric software VOSviewer. Among others, the results of the research led to the following conclusions: (1) the articles published in indexed journals represent the largest percentage of the type of instrument used for scientific dissemination, representing 64% of the documents; (2) it is estimated that between the years 2016 and 2025 the indexed research activities involving nuclear desalination continued to grow sharply

Journals Bibliometric Portfolios; Case of Nursing Research

    Get PDF
Number of journals is raising exponentially. Consequently authors have a problem which journal to select when publishing their research. Journal portfolios including information like impact factors and productivity trends, state of the art topics, topics evolution and citation patterns might help authors to select the journal where their paper will have optimal chances to be published, read and cited. To build portfolios we used two approaches; namely descriptive bibliometric analysis to extract distribution of types of documents, most prolific authors, institutions, countries, citation histories, etc. and bibliometric mapping to visualize the content Our study showed that journals portfolios can improve evidence based nursing and on the other hand offer health librarians an opportunity to extend their services and help prospective authors to select the optimal journal to publish their research

The objective here is first, to analyze the components of the trends of publishing, topics, methodology, authors status and references to the articles of the subject journal; and, next, to compare the content and structure of this journal with the criteria of new regulations on determining the credibility of the Iranian scientific journals. This study is run through a quantitative content analysis and evaluative methods. The statistical population consists of 372 published articles between 2011 and 2018. The findings reveal that the highest count of articles published in a year with a frequency of 80 is 2014 (21.4%). In terms of the count of authors of an article, 96% of articles (357 articles) are co-authored. It is found that72% of the authors are male, 42% of the first authors, and 27% of all of authors are assistant professors. In total, 1331 keywords are assigned to the journal articles, with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 10. Brand, customer, and market and marketing issues are the most frequent, respectively. Most articles are run by adopting the survey (156 articles) and correlation (72 articles) methods. The average count of references per article is 35, with 83% in English and 17% is Farsi. Moreover, errors are observed in cases like the inclusion of organizational affiliation, academic degree, methodological elements, and citation method, while more than 90% of the criteria of new regulations on determining the credibility of the Iranian scientific journals are observed

Scientometric mapping as a strategic intelligence tool for the governance of emerging technologies

    Get PDF
How can scientometric mapping function as a tool of ’strategic intelligence’ to aid the governance of emerging technologies? The present paper aims to address this question by focusing on a set of recently developed scientometric techniques, namely overlay mapping. We examine the potential these techniques have to inform, in a timely manner, analysts and decision-makers about relevant dynamics of technical emergence. We investigate the capability of overlay mapping in generating informed perspectives about emergence across three spaces: geographical, social, and cognitive. Our analysis relies on three empirical studies of emerging technologies in the biomedical domain: RNA interference (RNAi), Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) testing technologies for cervical cancer, and Thiopurine Methyltransferase (TPMT) genetic testing. The case-studies are analysed and mapped longitudinally by using publication and patent data. Results show the variety of ’intelligence’ inputs overlay mapping can produce for the governance of emerging technologies. Overlay mapping also confers to the investigation of emergence flexibility and granularity in terms of adaptability to different sources of data and selection of the levels of the analysis, respectively. These features make possible the integration and comparison of results from different contexts and cases, thus providing possibilities for a potentially more ’distributed’ strategic intelligence. The generated perspectives allow triangulation of findings, which is important given the complexity featuring in technical emergence and the limitations associated with the use of single scientometric approaches
