A Novel way of Improving CPU Utilization In Cloud

    Get PDF
Cloud computing is the collection of best software practices derived from dis-tributed computing systems like cluster and grid. Emerging as a superior design amongst them. Cloud not only has the capability of batch processing and massive massive parallel data computation like its parents but also, things hitherto was not imagined. The main concentration of our work is on IaaS(Infrastructure as a service) aspect of cloud. Wherein, the customer avails the computation resource over simple web interface. though the cloud has most of the good design choices of its parents, certain drawbacks of them have crept in. This may be the result of the lack of ecient preexisting tools or naive implementation/setup of system at certain layer. In our work, we've optimized the performance by identifying some of those implementation choices making the overall system more ecient. This thesis is an extension of the work on Nephele. Which is a parallel data processing framework(still experimental). Nephele facilitates on demand alloacation of resource by deducing few infor-mations from the users. Using these informations, Nephele splits the overall job to smaller stages and resource for the same is allocated. By doing so, unnecessary resource allocation like in conventional systems is being avoided. thus, eventually increasing the CPU utilization. In our proposal, we deduce few more informations from the user which helps in making more optimal scheduling of the resources

System Transformation in the Context of Building an Integrative System in the Child Welfare System in Allegheny County through Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessment

In the last decade, the Allegheny County constituents could witness the transformation of a widely criticized system of divided services into a single Department of Human Services. As an attempt to improve service planning DHS moved to a common assessment (CANS Comprehensive) shared across the child-serving offices/systems that would lead to a shared service plan and an overall integrated service delivery process. The primary goal of the CANS is to support communication between systems and, in the end, help the integration process within DHS. This study describes what CANS is and how it became a central point in Human Services in Allegheny County. On the other hand it looks at the dynamics of implementing this new assessment across offices with a focus on the challenges different systems face, while implementing the new tool

A Web Content Management and Personalization Model Using One-to-One Strategy for Higher Educational Institutions

This research explored a Web content management and personalization model for higher educational institutions. Through a review of literature and data collected from users, it formulated a conceptual model for Web content management and personalization. The study used the Web site of School of Technology at Eastern Illinois University as a typical case from which to develop the model for higher educational institutions. Understanding the factors influencing user attitudes about the adoption of new Web technologies is extremely important. Such an understanding can help Web developers develop a theoretical framework for a Web model as well as identify its components. Cognizant of user-centered design principles, the study surveyed School of Technology students to assess their attitudes and expectations about applying one-to-one marketing strategy to the School\u27s Web site and to identify the content of the site. Based on the survey results, it formulated design guidelines that helped ascertain the one-to-one Web marketing strategy for the model. Finally, the study formulated a conceptual Web content management and personalization model in Unified Modeling Language formats

Current state of the American healthcare system - why exorbitant spending results in low international health rankings and how to ameliorate this paradox

The United States spends more than any other nation on healthcare by an exceedingly significant amount. The United States also ranks very poorly on health outcomes when compared to other economically developed nations. The reason why the United States spends so much more than other nations is because they spend more in all categories of healthcare. Hospital admissions and overnight stays are more expensive, medical staff salaries are higher than in other nations, procedures and treatments are ordered more frequently and cost more than in other nations, prescription drugs prices are multiple times greater in the U.S., the multi-payer private and public insurance payment schemes are time consuming and complex, and administrative costs are significantly higher in the U.S. than in other countries. These complexities and high costs create inefficiencies in America's healthcare system that can interfere with the quality of care provided. The major reasons why the United States is lacking in health outcome rankings can be attributed to an underdeveloped primary care sector and an underfunded social services sector, which make it difficult to coordinate care and practice preventative medicine. America's history of uninsured citizens lacked access to care so the U.S. saw repeats of emergency admissions and expensive hospitalizations for chronic conditions. These problems are preventable with a more robust primary care sector, increased access to care, and advocating public health awareness. Current reforms such as the Affordable Care Act are making strides in the positive direction by creating Accountable Care Organizations, increasing access to care, and regulating an online insurance marketplace. However, continued research and assessments of these new methods of delivering care are necessary in the near future to see if pilot studies can be scaled up on a national level

Preparing the Workforce for Integrated Healthcare

Integrated healthcare is recommended to deliver care to individuals with co-occurring medical and mental health conditions. Identifying the knowledge necessary for behavioral health providers to practice in integrated settings, and determining whether a computer application is an effective strategy to disseminate this knowledge, are essential steps to transitioning these individuals to integrated healthcare delivery systems. A literature review of U.S. based publications from 1999 to 2015 identified 68 articles that met inclusion criteria and identified specific knowledge for integrated healthcare settings. A survey completed by 154 behavioral health providers working in integrated healthcare settings examined the extent to which respondents agreed the specific domains of knowledge identified in the systematic review were necessary for practice in integrated healthcare settings. An internet based computer application was developed and tested through a rapid prototyping method with two focus groups and 5 individual interviews. Nielson’s usability heurstics were used to evaluate data from focus groups and interviews and changes were incorporated in development of the computer application. The computer application was evaluated through an experimental pre-test/post-test design in which the knowledge of screening measures of 15 masters level social work students was tested. The results of the literature review provided evidence that behavioral health providers require specific knowledge of medical diagnoses, psychiatric diagnoses, screening instruments and intervention skills. A first-order, four-subscale model of this knowledge was confirmed by a CFA model in the survey sample. The computer application developed through the focus groups and interviews is an introduction to integrated healthcare concepts, reinforces the integrated nature of physical and behavioral health, and puts evidence-based knowledge at the point of care. When compared to an asynchronous training session in the experimental investigation, ANCOVA results revealed no significant differences on post-test knowledge of screening measures between the two groups. Outcomes of training on an integrated healthcare topic using a computer application are comparable to those using an asynchronous instructional method. Further research is needed to evaluate the impact of computer application use in real-world practice settings
