Abmash: Mashing Up Legacy Web Applications by Automated Imitation of Human Actions

    Get PDF
Many business web-based applications do not offer applications programming interfaces (APIs) to enable other applications to access their data and functions in a programmatic manner. This makes their composition difficult (for instance to synchronize data between two applications). To address this challenge, this paper presents Abmash, an approach to facilitate the integration of such legacy web applications by automatically imitating human interactions with them. By automatically interacting with the graphical user interface (GUI) of web applications, the system supports all forms of integrations including bi-directional interactions and is able to interact with AJAX-based applications. Furthermore, the integration programs are easy to write since they deal with end-user, visual user-interface elements. The integration code is simple enough to be called a "mashup".Comment: Software: Practice and Experience (2013)

Mapping the Bid Behavior of Conference Referees

The peer-review process, in its present form, has been repeatedly criticized. Of the many critiques ranging from publication delays to referee bias, this paper will focus specifically on the issue of how submitted manuscripts are distributed to qualified referees. Unqualified referees, without the proper knowledge of a manuscript's domain, may reject a perfectly valid study or potentially more damaging, unknowingly accept a faulty or fraudulent result. In this paper, referee competence is analyzed with respect to referee bid data collected from the 2005 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL). The analysis of the referee bid behavior provides a validation of the intuition that referees are bidding on conference submissions with regards to the subject domain of the submission. Unfortunately, this relationship is not strong and therefore suggests that there exists other factors beyond subject domain that may be influencing referees to bid for particular submissions

    Online Real Estate Feed Reader

This report basically discusses the preliminary research done and basic understanding of the proposed topic, which is "Online Real Estate Feed Reader". This online real estate feed reader is an idea in order to give services to people who lives in the developed area where people will face the difficulty to find land or houses. This also gives people an easy alternative way to find the agent for real estate from using the traditional way like newspaper or directly to agent. User can just click search button to display the result and also can just subscribe RSS in order to get time to time updated. This Online Real Estate feed reader website with the objective to help the user to search exactly the real estate website available from internet and not with the anonymous result which sometimes no related at all to the real estate web. User also can get information about what they are searching in term of description, contact person or picture from this online real estate feed reader, this will make sure user will get right information from the selected real estate website. The website also contains with the RSS feeds where it can be subscribe from the top of the page, this RSS will be update frequently automatically will show the outline of the information and also the picture if there are available. For the introduction, the scope for this online real estate feed reader will be focusing to search or the of real estate in KL area only, where this website only lists the real estate from KL area and stores all the information into the database. The methodology use in this project is prototyping methodology, where it consist of several phase which are planning, analysis, design and implementation phase, which the planning, analysis and design are perform repeatedly until the system is completed .The analysis also has been perform under result and discussion session, most of the user give a positive feedback for the system and for the conclusion author hope this project will be success and achieve it scope and objectives like planned and user can get benefit by using this system

Case acquisition from text: ontology-based information extraction with SCOOBIE for myCBR

    Get PDF
myCBR is a freely available tool for rapid prototyping of similarity-based retrieval applications such as case-based product recommender systems. It provides easy-to-use model generation, data import, similarity modelling, explanation, and testing functionality together with comfortable graphical user interfaces. SCOOBIE is an ontology-based information extraction system, which uses symbolic background knowledge for extracting information from text. Extraction results depend on existing knowledge fragments. In this paper we show how to use SCOOBIE for generating cases from texts. More concrete we use ontologies of the Web of Data, published as so called Linked Data interlinked with myCBR’s case model. We present a way of formalising a case model as Linked Data ready ontology and connect it with other ontologies of the Web of Data in order to get richer cases

Oveia: expanding the topic maps frontier

    Get PDF
Ontology based websites are one possible implementation of the Semantic Web. There are several languages for ontology specification: RDF, OWL, Topic Maps. Topic Maps follow a structure formally specified what makes them a good choice for semantic website specification. The process of ontology development based in topic maps is complex, time consuming, and it requires a lot of human and financial resources, because they can have a lot of topics and associations, and the number of information resources can be very large. To overcome this problem a new environment is proposed, Oveia. Oveia is composed by four components which have relevant contributions to the Semantic Web area. This paper describes these components in detail. Two components representing a metadata extractor: heterogeneous data integration (through XSDS specifications) and an homogeneous intermediate data representation for the extracted metadata (datasets). The Ontology builder who builds an ontology from metadata stored in a set of datasets (construction rules are specified in a new domain specific language: XS4TM). The Ontology builder stores the result in XTM files or in relational databases according to the Topic Map structure. Finally, Ulisses, the navigational component, generates web interfaces through which is possible to move inside the topic map and among information resources

Graphical Database Architecture For Clinical Trials

    Get PDF
The general area of the research is Health Informatics. The research focuses on creating an innovative and novel solution to manage and analyze clinical trials data. It constructs a Graphical Database Architecture (GDA) for Clinical Trials (CT) using New Technology for Java (Neo4j) as a robust, a scalable and a high-performance database. The purpose of the research project is to develop concepts and techniques based on architecture to accelerate the processing time of clinical data navigation at lower cost. The research design uses a positivist approach to empirical research. The research is significant because it proposes a new approach of clinical trials through graph theory and designs a responsive structure of clinical data that can be deployed across all the health informatics landscape. It uniquely contributes to scholarly literature of the phenomena of Not only SQL (NoSQL) graph databases, mainly Neo4j in CT, for future research of clinical informatics. A prototype is created and examined to validate the concepts, taking advantage of Neo4j’s high availability, scalability, and powerful graph query language (Cypher). This research study finds that integration of search methodologies and information retrieval with the graphical database provides a solid starting point to manage, query, and analyze the clinical trials data, furthermore the design and the development of a prototype demonstrate the conceptual model of this study. Likewise the proposed clinical trials ontology (CTO) incorporates all data elements of a standard clinical study which facilitate a heuristic overview of treatments, interventions, and outcome results of these studies
