    Integrating big data into a sustainable mobility policy 2.0 planning support system

    It is estimated that each of us, on a daily basis, produces a bit more than 1 GB of digital content through our mobile phone and social networks activities, bank card payments, location-based positioning information, online activities, etc. However, the implementation of these large data amounts in city assets planning systems still remains a rather abstract idea for several reasons, including the fact that practical examples are still very strongly services-oriented, and are a largely unexplored and interdisciplinary field; hence, missing the cross-cutting dimension. In this paper, we describe the Policy 2.0 concept and integrate user generated content into Policy 2.0 platform for sustainable mobility planning. By means of a real-life example, we demonstrate the applicability of such a big data integration approach to smart cities planning process. Observed benefits range from improved timeliness of the data and reduced duration of the planning cycle to more informed and agile decision making, on both the citizens and the city planners end. The integration of big data into the planning process, at this stage, does not have uniform impact across all levels of decision making and planning process, therefore it should be performed gradually and with full awareness of existing limitations

    This paper considers the challenges that face the widespread adoption of E-government in developing countries, using Saudi Arabian our case study. E-government can be defined based on an existing set of requirements. In this paper we define E-government as a matrix of stakeholders; governments to governments, governments to business and governments to citizens using information and communications technology to deliver and consume services. E-government has been implemented for a considerable time in developed countries. However E-government services still faces many challenges their implemented and general adoption in developing countries. Therefore, this paper presents an integrated model for ascertaining the intention to adopt E-government services and thereby aid governments in accessing what is required to increase adoption

    Online Travel Service Quality: The Importance of Pre-Transaction Services

    The Internet revolution has led to significant changes in the way travel agencies interact with customers. Travel websites are used to different degrees, and for a variety of combinations of pre-transaction, transaction and post-transaction services. A better understanding of how customers interact with online services will help providers improve service quality to levels that satisfy or even delight customers, and thus create loyalty. This article provides a comprehensive review of the literature on online service quality, applies the theory to online travel offerings, and reports on an empirical study of quality perceptions of pre-transaction services provided on three travel websites. Effects on customer perceived quality were measured for process and outcome dimensions of online services. Implications for the design of online travel services and suggestions for further research are formulated.Economics ;

    Dubai outbound tourism: An exploratory study of Emiratis and expatriates

    This research investigates the perceptions of residents of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) towards the state of Victoria, Australia as a destination and assesses their knowledge of Victoria’s tourism attributes. Focus groups were undertaken with UAE nationals (referred to as Emiratis), expatriate residents and travel agents. In the case of the former group it was found that the previous travel experiences of most respondents involved travelling in family groups with the wife and mother making the key travel-related decisions. The responses appeared to be broadly representative of attitudes prevalent more widely within their relevant families. Of the expatriate respondents, all were experienced travellers who had previously visited Australia. Their tourism interests, in such things as outdoor activities and music, differed from those of the Emiratis. All but one of the respondents in the focus group of travel agents had previously visited Australia. The study fills a gap in researching immature markets. The use of the focus group method illustrates how investigating the perceptions of emerging target markets can provide a useful input to shape future industry development

    Web-based service market places have been established as the fast-growing Internet technology has facilitated e-commerce platforms that enable buyers of services to connect with service providers in various different fields (Banker & Hwang, 2008). With the birth of e-commerce, it has become important to be able to monitor and enhance web-based service quality (Li et al., 2002). Ongoing attempts to understand the dynamics of service in an online context have indicated that service quality is related to customer satisfaction (Luo & Lee, 2011) and loyalty (Chang & Wang, 2008). Therefore, it is important for firms to identify factors that contribute to e-service satisfaction and perceived value (Zhang et al., 2006). E-service has been constantly evolving to incorporate new and continuous technological innovations. E-services must meet customers’ increasing expectations while at the same time adapt to the unique features of the Internet in order to gain user acceptance. E-service providers have realized the importance of satisfying customers. (Zhang et al. 2006) Therefore, identifying the factors that create customer satisfaction with e-services is critical. Even though there are numerous studies on service quality in physical settings, e-service lacks empirical research (Zhang et al., 2006). Since e-service quality and perceived value of websites are regarded as the key influential factors for internet marketing (Chang & Wang, 2008), it becomes necessary to research the phenomenon more thoroughly. To examine factors affecting customer satisfaction with e-services, I conducted a survey. The questions were based on existing studies on both perceived service quality and characteristics of e-commerce. The goal was to find out which factors affect customer satisfaction in an online service context. For the study I interviewed ten consumers on their expectations and experiences from online travel agencies. These results were compared to interviews conducted with eight travel agency representatives from four different travel agencies. The results indicate that some modification to existing theory is needed and new dimensions should be considered when measuring e-service quality

The interface between climate and tourism is multifaceted and complex, as climate represents both a vital resource to be exploited and an important limiting factor that poses risks to be managed by the tourism industry and tourists alike. All tourism destinations and operators are climate-sensitive to a degree and climate is a key influence on travel planning and the travel experience. This chapter provides a synopsis of the capacities and needs for climate services in the tourism sector, including current and emerging applications of climate services by diverse tourism end-users, and a discussion of key knowledge gaps, research and capacity-building needs and partnerships that are required to accelerate the application of climate information to manage risks to climate variability and facilitate successful adaptation to climate change
