    Get PDF
The aim of this thesis is to explore possibilities of modelling late payment times of invoices in business-to-business sales process using real data of sales ledgers. Survival analysis and a novel ensemble method of Random Survival Forests is applied to the right-censored data of late invoices. A theoretical overview of Random Survival Forests is given and concordance index as a performance measure for survival models is explained. A comprehensive overview of data preprocessing and deriving payment times from sales ledgers is presented. We propose two separate models, for first-time debtors and for repeated debtors, and explore the effect of different predictors in a model. Random Survival Forests prove to have advantages over Cox Proportional Hazards model as there are no underlying assumptions that need to be taken into consideration. Overall, it is concluded that Random Survival Forests model which additionally uses historical payment behaviour of debtors, performs the best in ranking payment times of late invoices

Actual technological development does not occur solely when new technological products become available. It just effectively occurs by the application of value-adding processes. These processes can only occur after manufacturing processes become viable. Therefore, companies must remain agile during product development, manufacturing, and supply and value-adding processes. The needs of the extended company must be considered. This paper presents a theoretical discussion of the utilization of CBV literature as the basis for the configuration of the extended company. The qualitative, multidisciplinary, and theoretical research conducted for this paper was based on the inductive method. Manufacturing Management, Research and Development, Business Model, and Capability-Based View knowledge domains were evaluated to discover their potential contributions to design approach elements. The Capability-Based View is proposed as an approach that can be employed in the planning process for new enterprises. It can also be included in performance measurement processes. This approach enables monitoring and decision making during the evolution of Business Models by the use of organizational capabilities as the change-tolerant, performance measurement monitoring unit. This work contributes to the current literature by presenting an analysis of several knowledge domains based on the design approach. It also provides a discussion of methods of unification and suggests further research that should be conducted to enable the design of an adequate Business Model for dynamic environments

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate BALY as a startup (emerging) company in the Iraq’s market as an emerging company by the McKinsey model to monitor and analyze performance in it. Because of the similarities between the rising companies under analysis.   Theoretical Framework: The measuring the company (BALY IRAQ) efficiency in terms of its Shared Values, Strategy, Structure, Systems, Style, Staff, and Skills using the McKinsey 7 S Model. All 7 components must be in sync with one another for optimal performance, with Shared Values serving as the driving force behind the growth of the rest. Together with their colleagues, managers use a system called a Performance Management System (PMS) to oversee all aspects of their staff's performance, from setting goals to monitoring progress to recognizing and rewarding success. Human resource efficiency may be measured with the help of PMS.   Methodology: The net profit has been chosen as the measure of efficacy (Baly) Responses were gathered from key HR people at the target firms using a standardized questionnaire.   Findings: It have been observed that the 7 Ss is most prevalent in a business and whether or not Shared Values has an influence on performance. The research also shows if any of the "S"s need to be adjusted to boost efficiency.   Implications: This study can serve as a useful resource for entrepreneurs, and anyone seeking to start or evaluate a business on a global scale, as long as the framework is applied correctly and at the appropriate time. However, it can be disappointing if the business is not yet qualified to undergo the McKinsey framework evaluation process.   Value: The value of the study is to evaluate the McKinsey 7s framework as a method for gauging a company's productivity as it is recommended by researchers as a reference, basis, and instrument for any company serious about assessing its performance or establishing a strategy and structuring its future organization

With the globalization of economic development and social development, the business environment of enterprises has changed. Only by continuously improving the digital level and management level of enterprises can they survive in the fierce global competition and develop. In this economic and social environment, enterprise managers need to implement Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in order to better operate and manage enterprise business and improve enterprise operating profit. Its purpose is to standardize and restructure enterprise process, financial process, capital flow and information flow, and improve enterprise operation ability, profitability and growth ability. The implementation of ERP system will have an impact on the level of enterprise productivity. Therefore, taking manufacturing companies as the research object, it is of great significance to explore the impact of ERP system implementation on the level of enterprise productivity.Taking the manufacturing companies selected in Beijing, China as the research object, this paper uses the method of combining theoretical analysis and empirical research to study the impact of ERP system on enterprise productivity and enterprise performance, so as to improve the industry’s understanding of ERP system. This paper uses data statistics and empirical research methods to analyze the impact of ERP system on enterprise productivity and enterprise performance. Firstly, it introduces the background and significance of the research, and then reviews and combs the relevant literature at home and abroad on ERP system, enterprise performance and the impact of ERP system on enterprise performance; Based on management information system theory, business process reengineering theory and financial performance theory, financial performance is measured from three aspects: operation ability, profitability and growth ability. Reasonably select relevant indicators to build the index system. This paper selects the enterprise financial data of Beijing manufacturing company implementing ERP system from 2013 to 2015, and uses the data model to make an empirical analysis on the impact of manufacturing company implementing ERP system on enterprise productivity and enterprise performance. It is found that in China, the implementation of ERP system by Beijing manufacturing company will have a certain impact on enterprise productivity and enterprise performance Combined with the principle of ERP, this paper discusses the impact of ERP Implementation on enterprise performance. In the empirical research part, descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon paired rank sum test are used to verify the impact of ERP Implementation on enterprise performance. The results show that the implementation of ERP system will improve the operation ability, profitability and growth ability of enterprises. Therefore, when preparing for the ERP system, enterprises must do a full feasibility and demand analysis to ensure the smooth implementation of the ERP system. Finally, this paper gives some suggestions on the impact of ERP Implementation on enterprise performance

    Get PDF
The economic-driven evaluation of information technology (IT) has become an important instrument in the management of IT projects. Numerous approaches have been developed to quantify the costs of an IT investment and its assumed profit, to evaluate its impact on business process performance, and to analyze the role of IT regarding the achievement of enterprise objectives. This paper discusses approaches for evaluating IT from an economic-driven perspective. Our comparison is based on a framework distinguishing between classification criteria and evaluation criteria. The former allow for the categorization of evaluation approaches based on their similarities and differences. The latter, by contrast, represent attributes that allow to evaluate the discussed approaches. Finally, we give an example of a typical economic-driven IT evaluation

This study aims to use a resource-action-performance framework to open the black box on the relationship between networking capability and innovation performance. The research population embraces companies in the Iranian automotive industry. Design/methodology/approach Due to the latent nature of the variables studied, the required data are collected through a web-based cross-sectional survey. First, the content validity of the measurement tool is evaluated by experts. Then, a pre-test is conducted to assess the reliability of the measurement tool. All data are gathered by the Iranian Vehicle Manufacturers Association (IVMA) and Iranian Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (IAPMA) samples. The power analysis method and G*Power software are used to determine the sample size. Moreover, SmartPLS 3 and IBM SPSS 25 software are used for data analysis of the conceptual model and relating hypotheses. Findings The results of this study indicated that the relationships between networking capability, inter-organizational knowledge mechanisms and inter-organizational learning result in a self-reinforcing loop, with a marked impact on firm innovation performance. Originality/value Since there is little understanding of the interdependencies of networking capability, inter-organizational knowledge mechanisms, co-learning and their effect on firm innovation performance, most previous research studies have focused on only one or two of the above-mentioned variables. Thus, their cumulative effect has not examined yet. Looking at inter-organizational relationships from a network perspective and knowledge-based view (KBV), and to consider the simultaneous effect of knowledge mechanisms and learning as intermediary actions alongside, to consider the performance effect of the capability-building process, are the main advantages of this research

Carving out new business models in a small company through contextual ambidexterity: the case of a sustainable company

Business model innovation (BMI) and organizational ambidexterity have been pointed out as mechanisms for companies achieving sustainability. However, especially considering small and medium enterprises (SMEs), there is a lack of studies demonstrating how to combine these mechanisms. Tackling such a gap, this study seeks to understand how SMEs can ambidextrously manage BMI. Our aim is to provide a practical artifact, accessible to SMEs, to operationalize BMI through organizational ambidexterity. To this end, we conducted our study under the design science research to, first, build an artifact for operationalizing contextual ambidexterity for business model innovation. Then, we used an in-depth case study with a vegan fashion small e-commerce to evaluate the practical outcomes of the artifact. Our findings show that the company improves its business model while, at the same time, designs a new business model and monetizes it. Thus, our approach was able to take the first steps in the direction of operationalizing contextual ambidexterity for business model innovation in small and medium enterprises, democratizing the concept. We contribute to theory by connecting different literature strands and to practice by creating an artifact to assist managemen

Evaluations of gaming simulations and business games as teaching devices are typically end-state driven. This emphasis fails to detect how the simulation being evaluated does or does not bring about its desired consequences. This paper advances the use of a logic model approach which possesses a holistic perspective that aims at including all elements associated with the situation created by a game. The use of the logic model approach is illustrated as applied to Simgame, a board game created for secondary school level business education in six European Union countries

Beginning to Unlock the Black Box in the HR Firm Performance Relationship: The Impact of HR Practices on Employee Attitudes and Employee Outcomes

    Get PDF
Theoretical models in strategic human resource management research commonly include employee attitudes and behaviors as key mediating links between human resource practices and firm performance. However, almost all empirical SHRM work to date has ignored the mediating hypothesis and merely examined the direct relationship between HR practices and firm outcomes. The purpose of this study is to test the relationship between HR practices and employee attitudes and behaviors. Using a sample of 174 independent work groups, we examined the relationship between HR practices and collective behaviors (turnover and absenteeism) mediated by collective attitudes (job satisfaction and commitment). Results indicate attitudes partially mediate the relationship between HR practices and employee behaviors. The direct and indirect relationships identified in this study support the notion that attitudes and behaviors play a mediating role between HR practices and firm outcomes. These findings illustrate the varying impacts of HR practices and the importance of utilizing multilevel theory and methods
