    Comparative Study of Users’ Satisfaction with Web OPACs of Public and Private Sector University Libraries in Lahore, Pakistan

    A web online public access (OPAC) is an online interface of a library that allows users to make transactions online globally. This study aimed to explore the online library services offered by university libraries of Lahore, the level of user’s satisfaction with web OPACs and to compare the users’ satisfaction with web OPACs public and private sector university libraries in Lahore Punjab. The data was collected on self-developed and self-administrated peer reviewed questionnaire from 16 university library users via survey. The study revealed that both public and private sector university libraries provide basic and advance searching options, different types of search filters and Multifactor services, the t-test results at combined level factor found no significant different (sig=.000) in level of uses’ satisfaction with web OPACs of public and private sector university libraries of Lahore Punjab

    Public transit system web sites have become a tool of choice for many citizens to obtain transit route information and to assist with trip planning. For many of these citizens, the web interface has become the only method of communication with the public service agency and the primary method of obtaining information about transit services. This model-based, multi-method study analyzes of data from more than 450 survey respondents and 155 focus group participants, seeks to understand the end user citizen trust experience in their interaction with e-government transit web sites. Results of this e-service study provide useful insights into how citizen perceptions of the transit service and transit agencies are affected through web site e-service use

    An Exploration of Postsecondary Education Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Public Universities and Colleges in Florida

    Through The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and The Workforce Innovative Opportunity Act of 2014, legislators have created opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to participate in postsecondary education with their typically developing peers. This study utilized the results of web-based survey data from public universities and colleges in the state of Florida to explore the varying options available for students with intellectual disabilities. This study applied a quantitative approach to the survey of 12 state university system (SUS) and 28 college system (CS) institutions in Florida to explore current program options and services afforded students with intellectual disabilities desiring postsecondary education in Florida. The web based survey yielded a 48% response rate. Findings indicate in 2016 there are 10 postsecondary education programs for students with intellectual disabilities within the public university and college system of Florida. Implications of the findings and recommendations for the future are discussed. Notably, future research should consider exploring national postsecondary programs and explore outcomes for students with intellectual disabilities

    Customer Empowerment in Healthcare Organisations Through CRM 2.0: Survey Results from Brunei Tracking a Future Path in E-Health Research

    Customer Relationship Management (CRM) with the Web technology provides healthcare organizations the ability to broaden services beyond its usual practices, and thus provides a particular advantageous environment to achieve complex e-health goals. This paper discusses and demonstrates how a new approach in CRM based on Web 2.0 namely CRM 2.0 will help customers to have greater control in the sense of controlling the process of interaction (empowerment) between healthcare organizations with its customers, and among customers themselves. A survey was conducted to gather preliminary requirements and expectations on empowerment in Brunei. The survey revealed that there is a high demand for empowering customers in Brunei through the Web. Regardless of the limitations of the survey, the general public has responded with a great support for the capabilities of empowerment listed from the questionnaires.     The Fiscal Health of Wisconsin Municipalities: An Update for 2007

    A web-based survey of fiscal health was administered to Wisconsin cities and villages during the spring of 2007. A total of 200 communities responded to the survey. Of those responding, 49 percent reported that their current revenue base is inadequate and more than 64 percent responded that their fiscal condition in five years will be inadequate. Some of the strategies most actively pursued in response to fiscal stress include delaying capital expenditures, targeted budget cuts and delaying routine maintenance expenditures. Strategies least likely to be pursued include reducing hours of public facilities, eliminating services and pursuing regional cooperation agreements. The same survey was administered in 2004 and while statistical comparisons are not permissible due to differences in responding communities, a few points are noteworthy. Compared to 2004, communities are slightly more optimistic today about their current financial condition (46 percent had adequate revenues in 2007 compared to 51 percent in 2004). Conversely, communities have dimmer prospects looking out the next five years today compared to 2004 (64 percent foresee having inadequate revenues in 2007 compared to 54 percent in 2004).

    The emergence of commercial genomics: analysis of the rise of a biotechnology subsector during the Human Genome Project, 1990 to 2004.

    BackgroundDevelopment of the commercial genomics sector within the biotechnology industry relied heavily on the scientific commons, public funding, and technology transfer between academic and industrial research. This study tracks financial and intellectual property data on genomics firms from 1990 through 2004, thus following these firms as they emerged in the era of the Human Genome Project and through the 2000 to 2001 market bubble.MethodsA database was created based on an early survey of genomics firms, which was expanded using three web-based biotechnology services, scientific journals, and biotechnology trade and technical publications. Financial data for publicly traded firms was collected through the use of four databases specializing in firm financials. Patent searches were conducted using firm names in the US Patent and Trademark Office website search engine and the DNA Patent Database.ResultsA biotechnology subsector of genomics firms emerged in parallel to the publicly funded Human Genome Project. Trends among top firms show that hiring, capital improvement, and research and development expenditures continued to grow after a 2000 to 2001 bubble. The majority of firms are small businesses with great diversity in type of research and development, products, and services provided. Over half the public firms holding patents have the majority of their intellectual property portfolio in DNA-based patents.ConclusionsThese data allow estimates of investment, research and development expenditures, and jobs that paralleled the rise of genomics as a sector within biotechnology between 1990 and 2004
