A NOVEL JOINT PERCEPTUAL ENCRYPTION AND WATERMARKING SCHEME (JPEW) WITHIN JPEG FRAMEWORK
Due to the rapid growth in internet and multimedia technologies, many new
commercial applications like video on demand (VOD), pay-per-view and real-time
multimedia broadcast etc, have emerged. To ensure the integrity and confidentiality of
the multimedia content, the content is usually watermarked and then encrypted or vice
versa. If the multimedia content needs to be watermarked and encrypted at the same
time, the watermarking function needs to be performed first followed by encryption
function. Hence, if the watermark needs to be extracted then the multimedia data
needs to be decrypted first followed by extraction of the watermark. This results in
large computational overhead. The solution provided in the literature for this problem
is by using what is called partial encryption, in which media data are partitioned into
two parts - one to be watermarked and the other is encrypted. In addition, some
multimedia applications i.e. video on demand (VOD), Pay-TV, pay-per-view etc,
allow multimedia content preview which involves „perceptual‟ encryption wherein all
or some selected part of the content is, perceptually speaking, distorted with an
encryption key. Up till now no joint perceptual encryption and watermarking scheme
has been proposed in the literature.
In this thesis, a novel Joint Perceptual Encryption and Watermarking (JPEW)
scheme is proposed that is integrated within JPEG standard. The design of JPEW
involves the design and development of both perceptual encryption and watermarking
schemes that are integrated in JPEG and feasible within the „partial‟ encryption
framework. The perceptual encryption scheme exploits the energy distribution of AC
components and DC components bitplanes of continuous-tone images and is carried
out by selectively encrypting these AC coefficients and DC components bitplanes.
The encryption itself is based on a chaos-based permutation reported in an earlier
work. Similarly, in contrast to the traditional watermarking schemes, the proposed
watermarking scheme makes use of DC component of the image and it is carried out
by selectively substituting certain bitplanes of DC components with watermark bits.

Apart from the aforesaid JPEW, additional perceptual encryption scheme, integrated
in JPEG, has also been proposed. The scheme is outside of joint framework and
implements perceptual encryption on region of interest (ROI) by scrambling the DCT
blocks of the chosen ROI.
The performances of both, perceptual encryption and watermarking schemes are
evaluated and compared with Quantization Index modulation (QIM) based
watermarking scheme and reversible Histogram Spreading (RHS) based perceptual
encryption scheme. The results show that the proposed watermarking scheme is
imperceptible and robust, and suitable for authentication. Similarly, the proposed
perceptual encryption scheme outperforms the RHS based scheme in terms of number
of operations required to achieve a given level of perceptual encryption and provides
control over the amount of perceptual encryption. The overall security of the JPEW
has also been evaluated. Additionally, the performance of proposed separate
perceptual encryption scheme has been thoroughly evaluated in terms of security and
compression efficiency. The scheme is found to be simpler in implementation, have
insignificant effect on compression ratios and provide more options for the selection
of control factor
Exact Histogram Specification Optimized for Structural Similarity
An exact histogram specification (EHS) method modifies its input image to
have a specified histogram. Applications of EHS include image (contrast)
enhancement (e.g., by histogram equalization) and histogram watermarking.
Performing EHS on an image, however, reduces its visual quality. Starting from
the output of a generic EHS method, we maximize the structural similarity index
(SSIM) between the original image (before EHS) and the result of EHS
iteratively. Essential in this process is the computationally simple and
accurate formula we derive for SSIM gradient. As it is based on gradient
ascent, the proposed EHS always converges. Experimental results confirm that
while obtaining the histogram exactly as specified, the proposed method
invariably outperforms the existing methods in terms of visual quality of the
result. The computational complexity of the proposed method is shown to be of
the same order as that of the existing methods.

Entropy Based Robust Watermarking Algorithm
With growth of digital media distributed over the Internet, concerns about security and piracy have emerged. The amount of digital media reproduction and tampering has brought a need for content watermarking. In this work, multiple robust watermarking algorithms are introduced. They embed watermark image into singular values of host image’s blocks with low entropy values. In proposed algorithms, host image is divided into blocks, and the entropy of each block is calculated. The average of all entropies indicates the chosen threshold value for selecting the blocks in which watermark image should be embedded. All blocks with entropy lower than the calculated threshold are decomposed into frequency subbands using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Subsequently chirp z-transform (CZT) is applied to the low-frequency subband followed by an appropriate matrix decomposition such as lower and upper decomposition (LUD) or orthogonal-triangular decomposition (QR decomposition). By applying singular value decomposition (SVD) to diagonal matrices obtained by the aforementioned matrix decompositions, the singular values of each block are calculated. Watermark image is embedded by adding singular values of the watermark image to singular values of the low entropy blocks. Proposed algorithms are tested on many host and watermark images, and they are compared with conventional and other state-of-the-art watermarking techniques. The quantitative and qualitative experimental results are indicating that the proposed algorithms are imperceptible and robust against many signal processing attacks
Image quality assessment of fast fourier transform domain watermarked images
Digital watermarking is the processing of embedding digital signature into the host media such as image, video, text, audio etc. During the watermarking process, images are subjected to variety of attacks such as noise in transmission channel, geometric attacks, compression, processing like filtering, etc, all this affect the
visual quality of watermarked image. Thus, there is a need
for image quality assessment of watermarked images in
relation to the original images. Several measures of image
metrics are available in the field of image processing
however they are application based. This paper discusses
watermarking in FFT domain and some of the image quality
metric that can be applied. Experiments are conducted using
the Full Reference (FR) images. We used Mean Square
Error (MSE), Root Mean Square (RMS), Structural
Similarity (SSIM), Image Fidelity Measure (IFM),
Correlation Coefficient Index (CCI) and Peak Signal to
Noise Ratio (PSNR) as our quality assessment. Result shows
that CCI, SSIM, and IFM are most appropriate for
measuring quality of watermarking system
ROI-based reversible watermarking scheme for ensuring the integrity and authenticity of DICOM MR images
Reversible and imperceptible watermarking is recognized as a robust approach to confirm the integrity and authenticity of medical images and to verify that alterations can be detected and tracked back. In this paper, a novel blind reversible watermarking approach is presented to detect intentional and unintentional changes within brain Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The scheme segments images into two parts; the Region of Interest (ROI) and the Region of Non Interest (RONI). Watermark data is encoded into the ROI using reversible watermarking based on the Difference Expansion (DE) technique. Experimental results show that the proposed method, whilst fully reversible, can also realize a watermarked image with low degradation for reasonable and controllable embedding capacity. This is fulfilled by concealing the data into ‘smooth’ regions inside the ROI and through the elimination of the large location map required for extracting the watermark and retrieving the original image. Our scheme delivers highly imperceptible watermarked images, at 92.18-99.94dB Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) evaluated through implementing a clinical trial based on relative Visual Grading Analysis (relative VGA). This trial defines the level of modification that can be applied to medical images without perceptual distortion. This compares favorably to outcomes reported under current state-of-art techniques. Integrity and authenticity of medical images are also ensured through detecting subsequent changes enacted on the watermarked images. This enhanced security measure, therefore, enables the detection of image manipulations, by an imperceptible approach, that may establish increased trust in the digital medical workflow
Contextual biometric watermarking of fingerprint images
This research presents contextual digital watermarking techniques using face and demographic text data as multiple watermarks for protecting the evidentiary integrity of fingerprint image. The proposed techniques embed the watermarks into selected regions of fingerprint image in MDCT and DWT domains. A general image watermarking algorithm is developed to investigate the application of MDCT in the elimination of blocking artifacts. The application of MDCT has improved the performance of the watermarking technique compared to DCT. Experimental results show that modifications to fingerprint image are visually imperceptible and maintain the minutiae detail. The integrity of the fingerprint image is verified through high matching score obtained from the AFIS system. There is also a high degree of correlation between the embedded and extracted watermarks. The degree of similarity is computed using pixel-based metrics and human visual system metrics. It is useful for personal identification and establishing digital chain of custody. The results also show that the proposed watermarking technique is resilient to common image modifications that occur during electronic fingerprint transmission
Perceptual Quality Evaluation of 3D Triangle Mesh: A Technical Review
© 2018 IEEE. During mesh processing operations (e.g. simplifications, compression, and watermarking), a 3D triangle mesh is subject to various visible distortions on mesh surface which result in a need to estimate visual quality. The necessity of perceptual quality evaluation is already established, as in most cases, human beings are the end users of 3D meshes. To measure such kinds of distortions, the metrics that consider geometric measures integrating human visual system (HVS) is called perceptual quality metrics. In this paper, we direct an expansive study on 3D mesh quality evaluation mostly focusing on recently proposed perceptual based metrics. We limit our study on greyscale static mesh evaluation and attempt to figure out the most workable method for real-Time evaluation by making a quantitative comparison. This paper also discusses in detail how to evaluate objective metric's performance with existing subjective databases. In this work, we likewise research the utilization of the psychometric function to expel non-linearity between subjective and objective values. Finally, we draw a comparison among some selected quality metrics and it shows that curvature tensor based quality metrics predicts consistent result in terms of correlation

The content of these diagnostic results must not be illegitimately altered during transmission and must be returned to the correct patient. In this paper, we present a solution to these problems using blind, reversible, and fragile watermarking based on authentication of the host image. In our proposed algorithm, the binary version of the Bose_Chaudhuri_Hocquengham (BCH) code for patient medical report (PMR) and binary patient medical image (PMI) after fuzzy exclusive or (F-XoR) are used to produce the patient's unique mark using secret sharing schema (SSS). The patient’s unique mark is used later as a watermark to be embedded into host PMI using blind watermarking-based singular value decomposition (SVD) algorithm. This is a new solution that we also proposed to applying SVD into a blind watermarking image. Our algorithm preserves PMI content authentication during the transmission and PMR ownership to the patient for subsequently transmitting associated diagnosis to the correct patient via a mobile telemedicine application. The performance of experimental results is high compare to previous results, uses recovered watermarks demonstrating promising results in the tamper detection metrics and self-recovery capability, with 30db PSNR, NC value is 0.99
