A semantic foundation for hidden state
We present the first complete soundness proof of the antiframe
rule, a recently proposed proof rule for capturing information hiding
in the presence of higher-order store. Our proof involves solving a
non-trivial recursive domain equation, and it helps identify some of the
key ingredients for soundness
Modeling Semantics with Gated Graph Neural Networks for Knowledge Base Question Answering
The most approaches to Knowledge Base Question Answering are based on
semantic parsing. In this paper, we address the problem of learning vector
representations for complex semantic parses that consist of multiple entities
and relations. Previous work largely focused on selecting the correct semantic
relations for a question and disregarded the structure of the semantic parse:
the connections between entities and the directions of the relations. We
propose to use Gated Graph Neural Networks to encode the graph structure of the
semantic parse. We show on two data sets that the graph networks outperform all
baseline models that do not explicitly model the structure. The error analysis

The Hidden Web, XML and Semantic Web: A Scientific Data Management Perspective
The World Wide Web no longer consists just of HTML pages. Our work sheds
light on a number of trends on the Internet that go beyond simple Web pages.
The hidden Web provides a wealth of data in semi-structured form, accessible
through Web forms and Web services. These services, as well as numerous other
applications on the Web, commonly use XML, the eXtensible Markup Language. XML
has become the lingua franca of the Internet that allows customized markups to
be defined for specific domains. On top of XML, the Semantic Web grows as a
common structured data source. In this work, we first explain each of these
developments in detail. Using real-world examples from scientific domains of
great interest today, we then demonstrate how these new developments can assist
the managing, harvesting, and organization of data on the Web. On the way, we
also illustrate the current research avenues in these domains. We believe that
this effort would help bridge multiple database tracks, thereby attracting

Modal logics for reasoning about object-based component composition
Component-oriented development of software supports the adaptability and maintainability of large systems, in particular if requirements change over time and parts of a system have to be modified or replaced. The software architecture in such systems can be described by components
and their composition. In order to describe larger architectures, the composition concept becomes crucial. We will present a formal framework for component composition for object-based software development. The deployment of modal logics for defining components and component composition will allow us to reason about and prove properties of components and compositions
