Nowadays, information hiding is becoming a helpful technique and fetch more attention due fast growth of using internet, it is applied for sending secret information by using different techniques. Steganography is one of major important technique in information hiding. Steganography is science of concealing the secure information within a carrier object to provide the secure communication though the internet, so that no one can recognize and detect it’s except the sender & receiver. In steganography, many various carrier formats can be used such as an image, video, protocol, audio. The digital image is most popular used as a carrier file due its frequency on internet. There are many techniques variable for image steganography, each has own strong and weak points. In this study, we conducted a review of image steganography in spatial domain to explore the term image steganography by reviewing, collecting, synthesizing and analyze the challenges of different studies which related to this area published from 2014 to 2017. The aims of this review is provides an overview of image steganography and comparison between approved studies are discussed according to the pixel selection, payload capacity and embedding algorithm to open important research issues in the future works and obtain a robust method

With the rapid development in the era of Internet and networking technology, there is always a requirement to improve the security systems, which secure the transmitted data over an unsecured channel. The needs to increase the level of security in transferring the data always become the critical issue. Therefore, data security is a significant area in covering the issue of security, which refers to protect the data from unwanted forces and prevent unauthorized access to a communication. This paper presents a review of structured-scheme representation for data security application. There are five structured-scheme types, which can be represented as dual-scheme, triple-scheme, quad-scheme, octal-scheme and hexa-scheme. These structured-scheme types are designed to improve and strengthen the security of data on the application

Recently, the internet has made the users able to transmit the digital media in the easiest manner. In spite of this facility of the internet, this may lead to several threats that are concerned with confidentiality of transferred media contents such as media authentication and integrity verification. For these reasons, data hiding methods and cryptography are used to protect the contents of digital media. In this paper, an enhanced method of image steganography combined with visual cryptography has been proposed. A secret logo (binary image) of size (128x128) is encrypted by applying (2 out 2 share) visual cryptography on it to generate two secret share. During the embedding process, a cover red, green, and blue (RGB) image of size (512x512) is divided into three layers (red, green and blue). The blue layer is transformed using Discrete Shearlet Transform (DST) to obtain its coefficients. The first secret share is embedded at the coefficients of transformed blue layer to obtain a stego image. At extraction process, the first secret share is extracted from the coefficients of blue layer of the stego image and XORed with the second secret share to generate the original secret logo. According to the experimental results, the proposed method is achieved better imperceptibility for the stego image with the payload capacity equal to (1 bpp). In addition, the secret logo becomes more secured using (2 out 2 share) visual cryptography and the second secret share as a private key

Steganography: a class of secure and robust algorithms

This research work presents a new class of non-blind information hiding algorithms that are stego-secure and robust. They are based on some finite domains iterations having the Devaney's topological chaos property. Thanks to a complete formalization of the approach we prove security against watermark-only attacks of a large class of steganographic algorithms. Finally a complete study of robustness is given in frequency DWT and DCT domains.Comment: Published in The Computer Journal special issue about steganograph

Automatic region selection method to enhance image-based steganography

Image-based steganography is an essential procedure with several practical applications related to information security, user authentication, copyright protection, etc. However, most existing image-based steganographic techniques assume that the pixels that hide the data can be chosen freely, such as random pixel selection, without considering the contents of the input image. So, the “region of interest” such as human faces in the input image might have defected after data hiding even at a low inserting rate, and this will degrade the visual quality especially for the images containing several human faces. With this view, we proposed a novel approach that combines human skin-color detection along with the LSB approach which can choose the embedding regions. The idea behind that is based on the fact that the Human Vision System HVS tends to focus its attention on selectively certain structures of the visual scene instead of the whole image. Practically, human skin-color is good evidence of the existence of human targets in images. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt that employs skin detection in application to steganography which consider the contents of input image and consequently can choose the embedding regions. Moreover, an enhanced RSA algorithm and Elliptic Curve Equation are used to provide a double level of security. In addition, the system embeds noise bits into the resulting stego-image to make the attacker’s task more confusing. Two datasets are used for testing and evaluation. The experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves a significant security improvement with high image quality

The proposed system makes use of steganographic method along with visual cryptography for hiding data in images and to provide better security.  Even though extensive research work has been done previously, but most of the research work gives no robust security for the image that has been encrypted. The method proposed in this paper is capable of hiding some secret message in least significant bits of the original image, thereby hiding the secret message in way to make its detection difficult. The secret image is then under went to visual cryptography algorithm. Thereby, creating shares of the secret image, which are noise like structures. Further, the method proposes to hide these shares in least significant bits of different images so as to create three levels of security for the message. The main objective of the proposed method is to combine the use of data hiding techniques, steganography and visual cryptography algorithms for designing a secure algorithm so that security, reliability and efficiency of secret message can be improved. The framework is implemented in matlab
