ATLAS FRAMEWORK FOR INTEGRAL ENTERPRISE MODELLING - INSTANTIATION FOR DYNAMIC CAPABILITIES MODELLING

    Get PDF
We argue that enterprise modelling should also include the human aspects of the organisation in order to develop a faithful representation of the total relevant system. Faithful representations contribute to practical implementation of management and organisational concepts like dynamic capabilities. Currently, there is a lack of enterprise modelling frameworks for modelling the organisation as a socio-technical system. We propose the Atlas Meta Framework for integral enterprise modelling and explain its elements: facets, levels, stakeholders, maps, atlas and roadmap. We demonstrate how the Atlas Meta Framework can be instantiated to the Atlas Capability Governance Framework and an online tool that can be used by managers for orchestrating the second-order dynamic capabilities of an organisation

One of many ways that is related to the determining of an ideal demand of an informationsystem to fulfill the business needs which meets to the development of organization is bydeveloping enterprise architecture. Enterprise Architecture will explain and draw theprocesses in executing and guiding of the information system developing planning such as:Data Architecture, Application Architecture and Technology Architecture to create thegood planning in developing and implementing an integrated information system. TheEnterprise Architecture Planning (EAP) is the basic for the management to support itsusing of IT/IS in the organization.EAP is a process to definite data architecture, application, and technology for the using of information in supporting the business and theplanning of architecture implementation. The process guideline of EAP is stressing the technique and the individual skill in operating and guiding the enterprise architecture. The business function is identified based on value chain Porter. The business model produced will be a basic data in defining Data Architecture, Application, Technology, and Implementation Planning Design. The result of this business modeling are found 72 detail business functions, 60 data entity candidates, and 36 application candidates which are classified into 6 application. The last step of the EAP is the designing of roadmap for the enterprise architecture implementation planning to make a full blue print to be applied

Salemba Group Guidance Group (SG) is an institution engaged in the field of education consultants and tutoring. investment of Bimbel SG on SI / TI body has not been effective, this can be seen from the failure of eCors system implementation caused by lack of careful planning of the system, the system development is still adhoc, and not done by experts. This leads to a kuangnya planning on the development of SI / IT, resulting in unconformity between the strategy of SI / IT with its business strategy. In developing SI / IT, a mature architectural plan is required to plan and manage SI / IT, in order to avoid recurrence of failures in system management. Based on existing facts, an enterprise architecture planning for data management, application, and technology was established, with the aim of assisting Bimbel SG in achieving its objectives. In this research, enterprise architecture planning is made using TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) with ADM (Architecture Develoment Method) method. This enterprise architecture planning will result in blueprint business architecture, application architecture, data architecture, technology architecture, gap analysis on each architecture, and roadmap of application implementation for Bimbel SG

Al Ihsan hospital is a regional general hospital located in Dayeuhkolot, Bandung, West Java. The current situation of this non-profit healthcare company is in transition to a wider health services development either the building or the treatment areas such as the additional of a medical team focused on cancer. The problems that occurred in Al Ihsan is not yet implemented enterprise architecture. Al Ihsan has symptoms of a lack of good information systems. The purpose of this research is to design the enterprise architecture and make the roadmap for guideline in implementation of this enterprise architecture design. We use TOGAF ADM which has many phases including preliminary phase, architecture vision, business architecture, information system architecture, and technology architecture, opportunities and solution, and migration planning. By using this framework, we will produce a blueprint that will be the first step of information system development. The conclusion is enterprise architecture research was conducted in a non-profit hospital using TOGAF ADM that expected to solve the problem

Operational excellence assessment framework for manufacturing companies

Operational Excellence (OE) is a consequence of an enterprise-wide practises based on correct principles that can be classified under four dimensions; Culture, Continuous Process Improvement, Enterprise Alignment and Results. To achieve OE, organisations have to attain a high maturity level and measurable success in the four dimensions as assessed externally by accredited institutions or consultants. External assessment is costly and can be inaccurate due to the lack of in depth knowledge of the organisation by external assessors, on the contrary, self-assessment of an organisations OE is cost effective and accurate if performed with a complete tool which assesses all four dimensions of OE. A complete OE self-assessment tool is currently unavailable, thus this study focuses on the development of a complete OE self-assessment tool. Using a matrix to critically evaluate and compare existing self-assessment tools in areas such as dimensions assessed, scoring criteria and usability, a complete self-assessment tool is then developed based on the combination of existing assessment tools. The tool is validated through the application, by managers, within a manufacturing company that already implements aspects of lean in order to self-assess its OE. The results of the assessment form the basis on which a roadmap to achieving OE is then developed

Business models for sustained ehealth implementation: lessons from two continents

There is general consensus that Computers and Information Technology have the potential to enhance health systems applications, and many good examples of such applications exist all over the world. Unfortunately, with respect to eHealth and telemedicine, there is much disillusionment and scepticism. This paper describes two models that were developed separately, but had the same purpose, namely to facilitate a holistic approach to the development and implementation of eHealth solutions. The roadmap of the Centre for eHealth Research (CeHRes roadmap) was developed in the Netherlands, and the Telemedicine Maturity Model (TMMM) was developed in South Africa. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the commonalities and differences of these approaches, and to explore how they can be used to complement each other. The first part of this paper comprises of a comparison of these models in terms of origin, research domain and design principles. Case comparisons are then presented to illustrate how these models complement one another

Construction informatics in Turkey: strategic role of ICT and future research directions

Construction Informatics deals with subjects ranging from strategic management of ICTs to interoperability and information integration in the construction industry. Studies on defining research directions for Construction Informatics have a history over 20 years. The recent studies in the area highlight the priority themes for Construction Informatics research as interoperability, collaboration support, intelligent sites and knowledge sharing. In parallel, today it is widely accepted in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry that ICT is becoming a strategic asset for any organisation to deliver business improvement and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. However, traditionally the AEC industry has approached investing in ICT with a lack of strategic focus and low level of priority to the business. This paper presents a recent study from Turkey that is focused on two themes. The first theme investigates the strategic role of ICT implementations from an industrial perspective, and explores if organisations within the AEC industry view ICT as a strategic resource for their business practice. The second theme investigates the ‘perspective of academia’ in terms of future research directions of Construction Informatics. The results of the industrial study indicates that ICT is seen as a value-adding resource, but a shift towards the recognition of the importance of ICT in terms of value adding in winning work and achieving strategic competitive advantage is observed. On the other hand, ICT Training is found to be the theme of highest priority from the academia point of view

Corporate boards are responsible for overseeing the interests of shareholders in the long term and have a critical role to play in championing sustainability across the enterprise. Over the years, Wall Street research, academic papers, corporate reports and trends from major investors have all underscored the same message: Companies that adopt sustainable practices deliver superior financial results and can face the future with more resilience.Based on interviews conducted with dozens of corporate directors, senior corporate leaders and governance experts, this Ceres report identifies key strategies for effective board engagement that can produce tangible environmental and social impacts. Specifically, the report recommends two inter-related approaches for weaving sustainability more deeply across board functions:Integrating sustainability into board governance systems, andIntegrating sustainability into board actions.By combining robust systems and meaningful actions, boards will have a far better chance of encouraging substantive performance improvements
