The rapid growth of system development is no longer subtle and continuously improving today’s system. In education sector, the student attendance system is able to be applied by Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology. NFC can be referred to as a device that can detect information and/or command from a tag by bringing them together in a close proximity or even by touching together. Traditionally, the manual attendance system would require a lecturer to pass around an attendance sheet for students to sign beside their names and another method would require the lecturer to call out the students’ names one by one and register their attendance. The attendance system based on NFC is meant to improve the manual attendance system and therefore the aim of this paper is to review the existing research on this topic

Programming Of NFC Chips: A university System Case Study

Global warming majorly caused by deforestation is taking its toll on the planet. Many technologies are being implemented to solve these problems of global warming, such are the concept of clean-green energy, solar powered projects, etc. We present in this project the programming and implementation of near field communication chips in supporting eco-friendliness and ensuring an effective information dissemination system in the University. This is achieved by embedding the chips with uniform resource locators (URL’s) to access useful departmental websites. These chips were also embedded with posters/flyers or contact/business cards, for digital storage or to be viewed at designated locations. The inbuilt NFC chips makes it possible for the users to interact with the environment just by using an NFC enabled device. This technology requires a little nudge or tap for activation. Once tapped, the chip will automatically transmit or display the data already programmed on it unto the device. In this work, the website which allows students check for important information about staff such as lecture schedule, visiting hours, etc. and also route texts over to staff if the event arises is demonstrated

A Near Field Communication (NFC) – Enabled System in Smart Posters for University Application

This project involves the exploration and use of Near Field Communication (NFC) in the Education field. The goal is to design a new application for the use of NFC in the pretext of a university environment. This has been done by exploring the current application of NFC in the Education sector and looking into new possibilities for this upcoming technology. Upon research, the author is interested in the process of producing a tag that will contain URLs of references for smart posters. Through showing the capabilities of NFC in the form of a new application, this research proves the possibility of the expansion and successful application of NFC in the near future for the Education sector

PubMed ID: 26057043Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging short-range wireless communication technology that offers great and varied promise in services such as payment, ticketing, gaming, crowd sourcing, voting, navigation, and many others. NFC technology enables the integration of services from a wide range of applications into one single smartphone. NFC technology has emerged recently, and consequently not much academic data are available yet, although the number of academic research studies carried out in the past two years has already surpassed the total number of the prior works combined. This paper presents the concept of NFC technology in a holistic approach from different perspectives, including hardware improvement and optimization, communication essentials and standards, applications, secure elements, privacy and security, usability analysis, and ecosystem and business issues. Further research opportunities in terms of the academic and business points of view are also explored and discussed at the end of each section. This comprehensive survey will be a valuable guide for researchers and academicians, as well as for business in the NFC technology and ecosystem.Publisher's Versio

An Approach to Establishing Simultaneous Server-Side Connections for NFC/Bluetooth enabled Quiz Management Systems

    Get PDF
Near Field Communication is a set of communication protocols for communication between two electronic devices over a distance of 4cm or less and Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard used for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices over short distances using UHF radio waves in the industrial, scientific and medical radio bands, from 2.402 GHz to 2.480GHz, and building personal area networks(PANs). Both these protocols facilitate wireless/ internet less communication between devices that have the capabilities. This paper seeks to further expand the concept and usage of these protocols via the examination of modifications made to a Quiz Management System. The Quiz Management System, which is a solution to further advance the notion of a smart classroom setup within the context of short-range wireless technologies has already seen iterations developed on both the NFC and Bluetooth side of things

A Survey of Smart Classroom Literature

    Get PDF
Recently, there has been a substantial amount of research on smart classrooms, encompassing a number of areas, including Information and Communication Technology, Machine Learning, Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, and Hardware. Smart classroom research has been quickly implemented to enhance education systems, resulting in higher engagement and empowerment of students, educators, and administrators. Despite decades of using emerging technology to improve teaching practices, critics often point out that methods miss adequate theoretical and technical foundations. As a result, there have been a number of conflicting reviews on different perspectives of smart classrooms. For a realistic smart classroom approach, a piecemeal implementation is insufficient. This survey contributes to the current literature by presenting a comprehensive analysis of various disciplines using a standard terminology and taxonomy. This multi-field study reveals new research possibilities and problems that must be tackled in order to integrate interdisciplinary works in a synergic manner. Our analysis shows that smart classroom is a rapidly developing research area that complements a number of emerging technologies. Moreover, this paper also describes the co-occurrence network of technological keywords using VOSviewer for an in-depth analysis

The Effect of the Internet of Things (IoT) on Education Business Model

    Get PDF
The introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) in education, which allows Internet based communications to happen between physical objects, sensors and controllers, has changed educational institutions massively. By embedding sensors in objects and integrating cloud computing, augmented reality, wearable technologies and big data in this platform, different parameters of the educational environment can be measured and analysed to provide useful information. It also has created a new interaction between people and the environment in educational organisation. In this research based on the recent IoT projects in education, we will categorize the application of IoT in education into four groups: energy management and real time ecosystem monitoring, monitoring student’s healthcare, classroom access control and improving teaching and learning. We will investigate and analyse how this platform has changed the Education Business Model and added new value propositions in such organizations based on the Canvas Business Model
