Control System Design Philosophy for Effective Operations and Maintenance

A well-designed control system facilitates the functions of machine operation, maintenance and development. In addition, the overall effectiveness of the control system can be greatly enhanced by providing reliable mechanisms for coordination and communication, ensuring that these functions work in concert. For good operability, the information presented to operators should be consistent, easy to understand and customizable. A maintainable system is segmented appropriately, allowing a broken element to be quickly identified and repaired while leaving the balance of the system available. In a research and development environment, the control system must meet the frequently changing requirements of a variety of customers. This means the system must be flexible enough to allow for ongoing modifications with minimal disruptions to operations. Beyond the hardware and software elements of the control system, appropriate workflow processes must be in place to maximize system uptime and allow people to work efficiently. Processes that provide automatic electronic communication ensure that information is not lost and reaches its destination in a timely fashion. This paper discusses how these control system design and quality issues have been applied at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.Comment: ICALEPCS 200

Expansion of the electrical network and substation makes a demand for better electricity system coordination. A radio communication system is one of many ways that fulfill such demand. The range of radio communication systems is limited by geographical location. Establishing a series of radio links to cover a wide area can not be considered as a solution to have good quality and reliable radio communication system anymore. Therefore, It needs one optimal location for radio repeater to cover all sites that have a crucial role in electricity system coordination. The optimal location for the mountainous geographical region is usually located in a remote area, far from civilization. It will need more effort on engineering to establish a radio repeater site. The selection method of location and development phase will be done by software simulation and actual survey to conduct testing, to determine the equipment needed to build radio repeater, and for administrative purposes. With the average fade margin of 25 dB, the location of the radio repeater is considered optimal enough to maximize electricity system coordination

In recent years, there has been significant growth in multimedia communication on drones. The first thing that comes to every researcher’s mind is what requirements are for multimedia communication to be acceptable for existing scenarios on UAVs? Because of the noisy wireless channel and long distance between UAVs, providing reliable and real-time multimedia communications on UAVs stands at the top of the requirements list. To the best of our knowledge, mobile edge computing and cross-layer error control have significant possibilities to provide a better quality of multimedia communication on UAVs. Finally, utilizing the aforementioned edge network techniques can increase the efficiency of the overall system, enhance the video quality, maximize the usage of network resources, and save energy in multimedia communication on UAV networks

Optimizing resource allocation in URLLC for real-time wireless control systems

    Get PDF
As one of the three main scenarios in the fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks, ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) can be served as an enabler for real-time wireless control systems. In such a system, the communication resource consumption in URLLC and the control subsystem performance are mutually dependent. To optimize the overall system performance, it is critical to integrate URLLC and control subsystems together by formulating a co-design problem. In this paper, based on uplink transmission, we study the resource allocation problem for URLLC in real-time wireless control systems. The problem is conducted by optimizing bandwidth and transmission power allocation in URLLC and control convergence rate subject to the constraints on communication and control. To formulate and solve the problem, we first convert the control convergence rate requirement into a communication reliability constraint. Then, the co-design problem can be replaced by a regular wireless resource allocation problem. By proving the converted problem is concave, an iteration algorithm is proposed to find the optimal communication resource allocation. Based on that, the optimal control convergence rate can be obtained to optimize overall system performance. Simulation results show remarkable performance gain in terms of spectral efficiency and control cost. Compared with the scheme of satisfying fixed quality-of-service in traditional URLLC design, our method can adjust optimal spectrum allocation to maximize the communication spectral efficiency and maintain the actual control requirement

Performance Analysis of NOMA Multicast Systems Based on Rateless Codes with Delay Constraints

    Get PDF
To achieve an efficient and reliable data transmission in time-varying conditions, a novel non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission scheme based on rateless codes (NOMA-RC) is proposed in the multicast system in this paper. Using rateless codes at the packet level, the system can generate enough encoded data packets according to users’ requirements to cope with adverse environments. The performance of the NOMA-RC multicast system with delay constraints is analyzed over Rayleigh fading channels. The closed-form expressions for the frame error ratio and the average transmission time are derived for two cases which are a broadcast communication scenario (Scenario 1) and a relay communication scenario (Scenario 2). Under the condition that the quality of service for the edge user is satisfied, an optimization model of power allocation is established to maximize the sum rate. Simulation results show that Scenario 2 can provide better block error ratio performance and exhibit less transmission time than Scenario 1. When compared with orthogonal multiple access (OMA) with rateless codes system, the proposed system can save on the transmission time and improve the system throughput

Credit quality is one of the most important things in the world of banking. The better the credit quality, the better the performance of the bank because credit is one of the banks biggest profit sources. But in reality banks are still experiencing problems in maintaining good credit quality caused by internal and external parties of the bank. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the identification environment, risk assessment as well as information and communication of the quality of microcredit in the BRI of the Ubud Branch Office. To maximize credit quality the bank can implement an internal control system. This study uses descriptive quantitative data analysis, data collection as done by distributing a questionnaire to respondents. This research uses data analysis techniques: validity test, reliability test, multiple linier regression analysis, coefficient of determination, F test and t test. As for the result of the study stated the validity test show the results of the assessment above 0,05 which means that all statements in the questionnaire are valid. Reliability test shows results above 0,60 which means all of the variables are reliable. Multiple linier regression analysis showed results is X1: 0,438, X2: 0,266 and X3: 0,275. The coefficient of determination shows a figure of 65,3% which means the control environment, risk assessment and information ad communication have a 65,3% effect on credit quality while 34,7% is influenced by other factors not examined. F test and t test show the results of X1, X2 and X3 have a positive and significant effect on credit quality

Maintaining reliable wireless connectivity is essential for the continuing growth of mobile devices and their massive access to the Internet of Things (IoT). However, terrestrial cellular networks often fail to meet their required quality of service (QoS) demand because of the limited spectrum capacity. Although the deployment of more base stations (BSs) in a concerned area is costly and requires regular maintenance. Alternatively, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) could be a potential solution due to their ability of on-demand coverage and the high likelihood of strong line-of-sight (LoS) communication links. Therefore, this chapter focuses on a UAV’s deployment and movement design that supports existing BSs by reducing data traffic load and providing reliable wireless communication. Specifically, we design UAV’s deployment and trajectory under an efficient resource allocation strategy, i.e., assigning devices’ association indicators and transmitting power to maximize overall system’s throughput and minimize the total energy consumption of all devices. For these implementations, we adopt reinforcement learning framework because it does not require all information about the system environment. The proposed methodology finds optimal policy using the Markov decision process, exploiting the previous environment interactions. Our proposed technique significantly improves the system’s performance compared to the other benchmark schemes
