Business Domain Modelling using an Integrated Framework
This paper presents an application of a âSystematic Soft Domain Driven Design Frameworkâ as a soft systems approach to domain-driven design of information systems development. The framework combining techniques from Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), the Unified Modelling Language (UML), and an implementation pattern known as âNaked Objectsâ. This framework have been used in action research projects that have involved the investigation and modelling of business processes using object-oriented domain models and the implementation of software systems based on those domain models. Within this framework, Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) is used as a guiding methodology to explore the problem situation and to develop the domain model using UML for the given business domain. The framework is proposed and evaluated in our previous works, and a real case study âInformation Retrieval System for academic researchâ is used, in this paper, to show further practice and evaluation of the framework in different business domain. We argue that there are advantages from combining and using techniques from different methodologies in this way for business domain modelling. Iterative criteria-based approach to engineering the requirements of software development methodologies
Software engineering endeavours are typically based on and governed by the requirements of the target software; requirements identification is therefore an integral part of software development methodologies. Similarly, engineering a software development methodology (SDM) involves the identification of the requirements of the target methodology. Methodology engineering approaches pay special attention to this issue; however, they make little use of existing methodologies as sources of insight into methodology requirements. The authors propose an iterative method for eliciting and specifying the requirements of a SDM using existing methodologies as supplementary resources. The method is performed as the analysis phase of a methodology engineering process aimed at the ultimate design and implementation of a target methodology. An initial set of requirements is first identified through analysing the characteristics of the development situation at hand and/or via delineating the general features desirable in the target methodology. These initial requirements are used as evaluation criteria; refined through iterative application to a select set of relevant methodologies. The finalised criteria highlight the qualities that the target methodology is expected to possess, and are therefore used as a basis for de. ning the final set of requirements. In an example, the authors demonstrate how the proposed elicitation process can be used for identifying the requirements of a general object-oriented SDM. Owing to its basis in knowledge gained from existing methodologies and practices, the proposed method can help methodology engineers produce a set of requirements that is not only more complete in span, but also more concrete and rigorous
Towards a Formal Model of Privacy-Sensitive Dynamic Coalitions
The concept of dynamic coalitions (also virtual organizations) describes the
temporary interconnection of autonomous agents, who share information or
resources in order to achieve a common goal. Through modern technologies these
coalitions may form across company, organization and system borders. Therefor
questions of access control and security are of vital significance for the
architectures supporting these coalitions.
In this paper, we present our first steps to reach a formal framework for
modeling and verifying the design of privacy-sensitive dynamic coalition
infrastructures and their processes. In order to do so we extend existing
dynamic coalition modeling approaches with an access-control-concept, which
manages access to information through policies. Furthermore we regard the
processes underlying these coalitions and present first works in formalizing
these processes. As a result of the present paper we illustrate the usefulness
of the Abstract State Machine (ASM) method for this task. We demonstrate a
formal treatment of privacy-sensitive dynamic coalitions by two example ASMs
which model certain access control situations. A logical consideration of these
ASMs can lead to a better understanding and a verification of the ASMs

Knowledge-Intensive Processes: Characteristics, Requirements and Analysis of Contemporary Approaches
Engineering of knowledge-intensive processes (KiPs) is far from being mastered, since they are genuinely knowledge- and data-centric, and require substantial flexibility, at both design- and run-time. In this work, starting from a scientific literature analysis in the area of KiPs and from three real-world domains and application scenarios, we provide a precise characterization of KiPs. Furthermore, we devise some general requirements related to KiPs management and execution. Such requirements contribute to the definition of an evaluation framework to assess current system support for KiPs. To this end, we present a critical analysis on a number of existing process-oriented approaches by discussing their efficacy against the requirements
Knowledge-based simulation
An architecture for a knowledge-based simulator is described. The task of scheduling represents an area in which such a tool might be applied. More specifically, scheduling for crew and ground support activities for the shuttle and space station would benefit from the application of knowledge-based simulation. The knowledge-based simulator would allow the crew and support personnel to schedule and reschedule activities in a timely and flexible manner in order to examine and test possible plans
From Method Fragments to Method Services
In Method Engineering (ME) science, the key issue is the consideration of
information system development methods as fragments. Numerous ME approaches
have produced several definitions of method parts. Different in nature, these
fragments have nevertheless some common disadvantages: lack of implementation
tools, insufficient standardization effort, and so on. On the whole, the
observed drawbacks are related to the shortage of usage orientation. We have
proceeded to an in-depth analysis of existing method fragments within a
comparison framework in order to identify their drawbacks. We suggest
overcoming them by an improvement of the ?method service? concept. In this
paper, the method service is defined through the service paradigm applied to a
specific method fragment ? chunk. A discussion on the possibility to develop a
unique representation of method fragment completes our contribution

Analysis and design of multiagent systems using MAS-CommonKADS
This article proposes an agent-oriented methodology called MAS-CommonKADS and develops a case study. This methodology extends the knowledge engineering methodology CommonKADSwith techniquesfrom objectoriented and protocol engineering methodologies. The methodology consists of the development of seven models: Agent Model, that describes the characteristics of each agent; Task Model, that describes the tasks that the agents carry out; Expertise Model, that describes the knowledge needed by the agents to achieve their goals; Organisation Model, that describes the structural relationships between agents (software agents and/or human agents); Coordination Model, that describes the dynamic relationships between software agents; Communication Model, that describes the dynamic relationships between human agents and their respective personal assistant software agents; and Design Model, that refines the previous models and determines the most suitable agent architecture for each agent, and the requirements of the agent network
