    A Secured Agent-based Model for a Peer-to-Peer System

    In this paper, information exchange that is devoid of control in the peer-to-peer communication, exposes peer to malicious activities, insecure communication, loss of significant data or failure of the system. The complexity and perceived compromise in peers communicating at different levels necessitates modeling a secured agent-based model for a peer-to-peer system. This work was designed to accommodate peer registration phase that will allow peers on satisfying defined requirement, request for connection to the super peer, subsequently guaranteeing and promoting healthy system. The agent module in the network ascertains successfully connected peers on the network, certifying feedback agent goal and ready for peer communication. The result shows that peculiar security attacks from malicious and un-registered peers are systematically controlled in the peer-to-peer system. In our system, we considered four input parameters: Data Download Speed (DDS), Local Score (LS), Number of Interactions (NI) and Sustained Communication Time (SCT) to decide the Peer Reliability (PR). We evaluate the proposed system by computer simulations.     Reliable communication across ad hoc networks

    This paper presents a fully decentralised peer-topeer voice communication tool intended for use across mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) by distributed groups who desired collaboration. We examined the synergy between MANETs and peer-to-peer virtual overlay networks which allowed the creation of ad hoc applications. One style of communication considered suitable for task oriented distributed group collaboration was push-to-talk. This research was focused on providing a push-to-talk communication platform suitable for deployment across MANETs. The research methodology employed was a proof of concept approach within a classical experimental computer science paradigm. We developed a prototype which used JXTA, a peer-to-peer virtual overlay network, to provide push-to-talk functionality across MANETs. Guaranteed delivery of messages was provided via a peer-to-peer voicemail delivery system. While the system did what intended we show that JXTA had a problem with the efficient delivery of voice samples.Telkom, Cisco, THRI

    A customizable multi-agent system for distributed data mining

    We present a general Multi-Agent System framework for distributed data mining based on a Peer-to-Peer model. Agent protocols are implemented through message-based asynchronous communication. The framework adopts a dynamic load balancing policy that is particularly suitable for irregular search algorithms. A modular design allows a separation of the general-purpose system protocols and software components from the specific data mining algorithm. The experimental evaluation has been carried out on a parallel frequent subgraph mining algorithm, which has shown good scalability performances

    Peer review innovations in Humanities: how can scholars in A&H profit of the "wisdom of the crowds"?

    Though supported by a large number of scholars in Scientific, Technical, and Medical (STM) disciplines traditional peer review does not live up to the needs of an efficient scholarly communication system and of quality research control. Therefore journals in STM are experimenting different forms of refereeing in combination with more traditional peer review system. Such is the case of PLoSONE, Biology Direct, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Electronic Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, and JIME. However in STM disciplines public peer review is not regarded an alternative to more traditional quality certification forms. It may be the case in the Arts & Humanities. In A&H publishing system peer review is by far a less common practice. Therefore the adoption of a social peer review process could be very useful to foster research in humanities. Scholars in A&H can profit of the interactive evaluation forms of the public peer-review to strengthen the scholarly debate, to foster active international and interdisciplinary discussions, to focus social attention on topics in Humanities, to broaden the borders of the cultural and intellectual discourse among non-scholars (public debate). This paper will provide some examples of how social peer review has been adopted by innovative communities of scholars in humanities to publish new experimental digital book models. In the digital environment the concepts of “document”, of “completeness of a document” and of “evaluation” is fast changing. In a close future in scholarly publishing it might become possible to overcome the rigid distinction between ex-ante and ex-post evaluation as the evaluation process might become an enduring part of the text itsel
