The explosive growth in wireless traffic and in the number of connected devices as smart phones or computers, are causing a dramatic increase in the levels of interference, which significantly degrades the capacity gains promised by the point-to-point multi input, multi output (MIMO) based techniques. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly clear that major new improvements in spectral efficiency of wireless networks will have to entail addressing intercell interference. So, there is a need for a new cellular architecture that can take these factors under consideration. It is in this context that LTE-Advanced arises.
One of the most promising LTE-Advanced technology is Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP), which allows base stations to cooperate among them, in order to mitigate or eliminate the intercell interference and, by doing so, increase the system’s capacity. This thesis intends to study this concept, implementing some schemes that fall under the CoMP concept.
In this thesis we consider a distributed precoded multicell approach, where the precoders are computed locally at each BS to mitigate the intercell interference. Two precoder are considered: distributed zero forcing (DZF) and distributed virtual signal-to-interference noise ratio (DVSINR) recently proposed. Then the system is further optimized by computing a power allocation algorithm over the subcarriers that minimizes the average bit error rate (BER). The considered algorithms are also evaluated under imperfect channel state information. A quantized version of the CSI associated to the different links between the BS and the UT is feedback from the UT to the BS. This information is then employed by the different BSs to perform the precoding design. A new DVSINR precoder explicitly designed under imperfect CSI is proposed.
The proposed schemes were implemented considering the LTE specifications, and the results show that the considered precoders are efficiently to remove the interference even under imperfect CSI.O crescimento exponencial no tráfego de comunicações sem-fios e no número de dispositivos utilizados (smart phones, computadores portáteis, etc.) está a causar um aumento significativo nos níveis de interferência, que prejudicam significativamente os ganhos de capacidade assegurados pelas tecnologias baseadas em ligações ponto-a-ponto MIMO.
The use of Millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum frequencies is seen as a key enabler technology for the future wireless communication systems to overcome the bandwidth shortage of the sub 6GHz microwave spectrum band, enabling high speed data transmissions in the 5G/6G systems. Nevertheless, mmWave propagation characteristics are associated to significant free-path losses and many more attenuations that become even more harsher as the frequency increases, rendering the communication challenging at this frequencies.
To overcome these distinct disadvantages, multiple antenna arrays are employed to allow beamforming techniques for the transmission of narrower concentrated beams in more precise directions and less interference levels between them, consequently improving the link budget. Thus, to constantly assure that the communication with each device is done using the beam pair that allows the best possible connectivity, a set of Beam Management control procedures is necessary to assure an efficient beamformed connection establishment and its continuous maintenance between the device and the network.
This dissertation will address the description of the Initial Beam Establishment (IBE) BM procedure, focusing the selection of the most suitable transmit-receive beam pair available after completed beam sweeping techniques to measure the different power levels of the received signal. The main goal is to design a new 3GPP-standard compliant beam pair selection algorithm based on SSS angle estimation (BSAE), that makes use of multiple Synchronization Signal Blocks (SSBs) to maximize the Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) value at the receiver, through the selected beam pair. This optimization is done using the Secondary Synchronization Signals (SSSs) present in each SSB to perform channel estimation in the digital domain (comprising the effects of the analog processing). Afterwards, the combination of those estimations were used to perform the equivalent channel propagation matrix estimation without the analog processing effects. Finally, through the channel propagation matrix, the angle that maximizes the RSRP was determined to compute the most suitable beam through the aggregated response vector.
The obtained results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance levels compared to a conventional beam pair selection algorithm. Furthermore, a comparison with an optimal case is also done, i.e., the situation where the channel is known, and the optimal beam pair angle can be determined.
System-level assessment of a C-RAN based on generalized space–frequency index modulation for 5G new radio and beyond
Index modulation (IM) has been attracting considerable research efforts in recent years as it is considered a promising technology that can enhance spectral and energy efficiency and help cope with the rising demand of mobile traffic in future wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) suitable for fifth-generation (5G) and beyond systems, where the base stations (BSs) and access points (APs) transmit multidimensional IM symbols, which we refer to as precoding-aided transmitter-side generalized space–frequency IM (PT-GSFIM). The adopted PT-GSFIM approach is an alternative multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) scheme that avoids multiuser interference (MUI) while exploiting the inherent diversity in frequency-selective channels. To validate the potential gains of the proposed PT-GSFIM-based C-RAN, a thorough system-level assessment is presented for three different three-dimensional scenarios taken from standardized 5G New Radio (5G NR), using two different numerologies and frequency ranges. Throughput performance results indicate that the 28 GHz band in spite of its higher bandwidth and higher achieved throughput presents lower spectral efficiency (SE). The 3.5 GHz band having lower bandwidth and lower achieved throughput attains higher SE. Overall, the results indicate that a C-RAN based on the proposed PT-GSFIM scheme clearly outperforms both generalized spatial modulation (GSM) and conventional MU-MIMO, exploiting its additional inherent frequency diversity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Channel estimation and parameters acquisition systems employing cooperative diversity
Doutoramento em Engenharia Eletrotécnica e TelecomunicaçõesThis work investigates new channel estimation schemes for the forthcoming and future generation of cellular systems for which cooperative techniques are regarded.
The studied cooperative systems are designed to re-transmit the received information to the user terminal via the relay nodes, in order to make use of benefits such as high throughput, fairness in access and extra coverage.
The cooperative scenarios rely on OFDM-based systems employing classical and pilot-based channel estimators, which were originally designed to pointto-point links.
The analytical studies consider two relaying protocols, namely, the Amplifyand-Forward and the Equalise-and-Forward, both for the downlink case.
The relaying channels statistics show that such channels entail specific characteristics that comply to a proper filter and equalisation designs.
Therefore, adjustments in the estimation process are needed in order to obtain the relay channel estimates, refine these initial estimates via iterative processing and obtain others system parameters that are required in the
equalisation.
The system performance is evaluated considering standardised specifications and the International Telecommunication Union multipath channel models.

Analysis Of Parameters In Long Term Evolution (lte) Technology
Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2010Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, 2010Bu çalışmada, 4. nesil iletişimde kullanılmaya aday LTE teknolojisi incelenmiştir. In this study, LTE which are candidates to provide technical requirements of 4G (Fourth Generation) networks are analyzed. The technical specifications for 4G are included in IMT Advanced which is announced by ITU (International Telecommunication Union). It is explained that LTE could not comply full requirement for 4G and it is expected LTE advanced will provide full requirements. In this study, technical specifications which are used by telecommunication provider in TS36.942 were used then LTE network is simulated in Matlab program according to these parameters. In simulation, the bandwidth, antenna techniques and channel types were set as variables and the system was simulated according to different bandwidth, channel types and multiple antennas. Then BLER and throughput were analyzed for different situation. The maximum throughput (approximately 60 Mbps) could be obtained in AWGN channel when the bandwidth is 20MHz and BLER is smaller than 10% which was acceptable. The results were also calculated according to Shannon capacity formula (approximately 70 Mbps) and it was seen that expected throughput for AWGN was obtained in simulator. In contrast to AWGN channel high throughput could not be obtained in other channel types which are Pedestrain and Rayleigh fading channell. It is thought that the following parameters decrease the throughput in these two channel types. Multiple Users (2) were tested in other two channel types that decreases throughput. Mobility and the characteristic of channel types also decreased throughput. In simulation, LTE recommended high data rate which is near to the target of 4G defined by ITU and also currently used LTE networks offer speeds in mobile broadband services between 20-80 Mbit/s with a maximum speed of 100 Mbit/s for 20 MHz bandwidth in 2.5GHz frequency so it could be expected that LTE Advanced will comply full requirements of IMT-Advanced systems. In conclusion, it is thought that LTE has become technology platform for 4G when it is compared to other competing technology, WiMAX. ITU (International Telecommunication Union) also confirmed LTE-Advanced as 4G in November 2010. Currently, nine telecommunication providers have already launched LTE in 2010 and an additional 11 expected before the end of the year. More than 250 companies have publicly expressed interest in deploying LTE networks, including CDMA, WiMAX and GSM operators. So that LTE is expected to be the leading choice for next-generation OFDMA networks over the next decade for all wireless carriers.Yüksek LisansM.Sc
Time Division Duplex (TDD) e Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) é suportada e a reconfiguração de certos parâmetros é permitida, nomeadamente
a frequência portadora, a largura de banda e o número de Resource
Blocks (RBs) usados.
Mobile networks are constantly evolving. 4G is the current generation of
broadband cellular network technology and is represented by the Long Term
Evolution (LTE) standard, de ned by 3rd Generation Partnership Project
(3GPP). There's a high demand for LTE at the moment, with the number
of mobile devices requiring an high-speed Internet connection increasing exponentially.
This may overcrowd the spectrum on the existing deployments
and the signal needs to be reinforced and coverage improved in speci c sites,
such as large conferences, festivals and sport events. On the other hand,
it would be an important advantage if users could continue to use their
equipment and terminals in situations where cellular networks aren't usually
available, such as on board of a cruise ship, sporadic events in remote
locations, or in catastrophe scenarios in which the telecommunication infrastructure
was damaged and the rapid deployment of a temporary network
can save lives. In all of these situations, the availability of
exible and easily
deployable cellular base stations and user terminals operating on standard
or custom bands would be very desirable. Thus, there is a clear motivation
for the development of a fully recon gurable cellular infrastructure solution
that ful lls these requirements.
A possible approach is an open-source, low-cost and low maintenance
Software-De ned Radio (SDR) software platform that implements the LTE
standard and runs on General Purpose Processors (GPPs), making it possible
to build an entire network while only spending money on the hardware
itself - computers and Radio-Frequency (RF) front-ends. After comparison
and analysis of several open-source LTE SDR platforms, the EURECOM's
OpenAirInterface (OAI) was chosen, providing a 3GPP standard-compliant
implementation of Release 8.6 (with a subset of Release 10 functionalities).
The main goal of this dissertation is the implementation of a
exible opensource
LTE User Equipment (UE) software radio platform on a compact
and low-power Single Board Computer (SBC) device, integrated with an
RF hardware front-end - Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). It
supports real-time Time Division Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Division
Duplex (FDD) LTE modes and the recon guration of several parameters,
namely the carrier frequency, bandwidth and the number of LTE Resource
Blocks (RB) used. It can also share its LTE mobile data with nearby users,
similarly to a Wi-Fi hotspot. The implementation is described through
its several developing steps, including the porting of the UE from a regular
computer to a SBC. The performance of the network is then analysed based
on measured results of throughput
