Copyright © 2019 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication EngineersAnalog filter implementation of continuous wavelet transform is considered as a promising technique for on-line spike detection applied in wearable electroencephalogram system. This Letter proposes a novel method to construct analog wavelet base for analog wavelet filter design, in which the mathematical approximation model in frequency domain is built as an optimization problem and the genetic algorithm is used to find the global optimum resolution. Also, the Gm-C filter structure based on LC ladder simulation is employed to synthesize the obtained analog wavelet base. The Marr wavelet filter is designed as an example using SMIC 1V 0.35μm CMOS technology. Simulation results show that the proposed method can give a stable analog wavelet filter with higher approximation accuracy and excellent circuit performance, which is well suited for the design of low-frequency low-power spike detector.Peer reviewe

A Novel Design Approach to X-Band Minkowski Reflectarray Antennas using the Full-Wave EM Simulation-based Complete Neural Model with a Hybrid GA-NM Algorithm

In this work, a novel multi-objective design optimization procedure is presented for the Minkowski Reflectarray RAs using a complete 3-D CST Microwave Studio MWS-based Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network MLP NN model including the substrate constant εr with a hybrid Genetic GA and Nelder-Mead NM algorithm. The MLP NN model provides an accurate and fast model and establishes the reflection phase of a unit Minkowski RA element as a continuous function within the input domain including the substrate 1 ≤ εr ≤ 6; 0.5mm ≤ h ≤ 3mm in the frequency between 8GHz ≤ f ≤ 12GHz. This design procedure enables a designer to obtain not only the most optimum Minkowski RA design all throughout the X- band, at the same time the optimum Minkowski RAs on the selected substrates. Moreover a design of a fully optimized X-band 15×15 Minkowski RA antenna is given as a worked example with together the tolerance analysis and its performance is also compared with those of the optimized RAs on the selected traditional substrates. Finally it may be concluded that the presented robust and systematic multi-objective design procedure is conveniently applied to the Microstrip Reflectarray RAs constructed from the advanced patches

Genetic algorithms are mathematical, highly parallel, adaptive search procedures (i.e., problem solving methods) based loosely on the processes of natural genetics and Darwinian survival of the fittest. Basic genetic algorithms concepts are introduced, genetic algorithm applications are introduced, and results are presented from a project to develop a software tool that will enable the widespread use of genetic algorithm technology

Time-varying Huygens' meta-devices for parametric waves

Huygens' metasurfaces have demonstrated almost arbitrary control over the shape of a scattered beam, however, its spatial profile is typically fixed at fabrication time. Dynamic reconfiguration of this beam profile with tunable elements remains challenging, due to the need to maintain the Huygens' condition across the tuning range. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate that a time-varying metadevice which performs frequency conversion can steer transmitted or reflected beams in an almost arbitrary manner, with fully dynamic control. Our time-varying Huygens' metadevice is made of both electric and magnetic meta-atoms with independently controlled modulation, and the phase of this modulation is imprinted on the scattered parametric waves, controlling their shapes and directions. We develop a theory which shows how the scattering directionality, phase and conversion efficiency of sidebands can be manipulated almost arbitrarily. We demonstrate novel effects including all-angle beam steering and frequency-multiplexed functionalities at microwave frequencies around 4 GHz, using varactor diodes as tunable elements. We believe that the concept can be extended to other frequency bands, enabling metasurfaces with arbitrary phase pattern that can be dynamically tuned over the complete 2\pi range

A Memetic Algorithm for Logic Circuit Design

    Get PDF
Memetic Algorithms (MAs) have shown to be very effective in solving many hard combinatorial optimization problems. In this perspective, this paper presents a MA for combinational logic circuits synthesis. The proposed MA combines a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for digital circuit design with the gate type local search (GTLS). The combination of a global and a local search is a strategy used by many successful hybrid optimization approaches. The main idea is to apply a local refinement to an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) in order to improve the fitness of the individuals in the population. The obtained results indicate that the MA reduces the number of generations required to reach the solutions and its standard deviation while improves the final fitness function.N/
