Dimensionality problem is a well-known challenging issue for most classifiers in which datasets have unbalanced number of samples and features. Features may contain unreliable data which may lead the classification process to produce undesirable results. Feature selection approach is considered a solution for this kind of problems. In this paperan enhanced firefly algorithm is proposed to serve as a feature selection solution for reducing dimensionality and picking the most informative features to be used in classification. The main purpose of the proposedmodel is to improve the classification accuracy through using the selected features produced from the model, thus classification errors will decrease. Modeling firefly in this research appears through simulating firefly position by cell chi-square value which is changed after every move, and simulating firefly intensity by calculating a set of different fitness functionsas a weight for each feature. K-nearest neighbor and Discriminant analysis are used as classifiers to test the proposed firefly algorithm in selecting features. Experimental results showed that the proposed enhanced algorithmbased on firefly algorithm with chi-square and different fitness functions can provide better results than others. Results showed that reduction of dataset is useful for gaining higher accuracy in classification

One of the human diseases with a high rate of mortality each year is breast cancer (BC). Among all the forms of cancer, BC is the commonest cause of death among women globally. Some of the effective ways of data classification are data mining and classification methods. These methods are particularly efficient in the medical field due to the presence of irrelevant and redundant attributes in medical datasets. Such redundant attributes are not needed to obtain an accurate estimation of disease diagnosis. Teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO) is a new metaheuristic that has been successfully applied to several intractable optimization problems in recent years. This paper presents the use of a multi-objective TLBO algorithm for the selection of feature subsets in automatic BC diagnosis. For the classification task in this work, the logistic regression (LR) method was deployed. From the results, the projected method produced better BC dataset classification accuracy (classified into malignant and benign). This result showed that the projected TLBO is an efficient features optimization technique for sustaining data-based decision-making systems

A Multi-Population FA for Automatic Facial Emotion Recognition

Automatic facial emotion recognition system is popular in various domains such as health care, surveillance and human-robot interaction. In this paper we present a novel multi-population FA for automatic facial emotion recognition. The overall system is equipped with horizontal vertical neighborhood local binary patterns (hvnLBP) for feature extraction, a novel multi-population FA for feature selection and diverse classifiers for emotion recognition. First, we extract features using hvnLBP, which are robust to illumination changes, scaling and rotation variations. Then, a novel FA variant is proposed to further select most important and emotion specific features. These selected features are used as input to the classifier to further classify seven basic emotions. The proposed system is evaluated with multiple facial expression datasets and also compared with other state-of-the-art models

Objectives: Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal   gives   a   viable perception about the neurological action of the human brain that aids the detection of epilepsy. The objective of this study is to build an accurate automated hybrid model for epileptic seizure detection. Methods: This work develops a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) machine learning model which can spontaneously classify pre-ictal and ictal EEG signals. In the proposed method two most effective nature inspired algorithms, Firefly algorithm (FFA) and Efficient Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) are used to determine the optimum parameters of Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) network. Results: Compared to the FFA and EPSO algorithm separately, the composite (ANFIS+FFA+EPSO) optimization algorithm outperforms in all respects. The proposed technique achieved accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of 99.87%, 98.71% and 100% respectively. Conclusion: The ANFIS-FFA-EPSO method is able to enhance the seizure detection outcomes for demand forecast in hospital

This paper presents a survey for optimization approaches that analyze and classify Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The automatic analysis of EEG presents a significant challenge due to the high-dimensional data volume. Optimization algorithms seek to achieve better accuracy by selecting practical features and reducing unwanted features. Forty-seven reputable research papers are provided in this work, emphasizing the developed and executed techniques divided into seven groups based on the applied optimization algorithm particle swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), artificial bee colony (ABC), grey wolf optimizer (GWO), Bat, Firefly, and other optimizer approaches). The main measures to analyze this paper are accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score assessment. Several datasets have been utilized in the included papers like EEG Bonn University, CHB-MIT, electrocardiography (ECG) dataset, and other datasets. The results have proven that the PSO and GWO algorithms have achieved the highest accuracy rate of around 99% compared with other techniques

In the last decade, the application of information technology and artificial intelligence algorithms are widely developed in collecting information of cancer patients and detecting them based on proposing various detection algorithms. The K-Nearest-Neighbor classification algorithm (KNN) is one of the most popular of detection algorithms, which has two challenges in determining the value of k and the volume of computations proportional to the size of the data and sample selected for training. In this paper, the Gaussian Brownian Motion Optimization (GBMO) algorithm is utilized for improving the KNN performance to breast cancer detection. To achieve to this aim, each gas molecule contains the information such as a selected subset of features to apply the KNN and k value. The GBMO has lower time-complexity order than other algorithms and has also been observed to perform better than other optimization algorithms in other applications. The algorithm and three well-known meta-heuristic algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) have been implemented on five benchmark functions and compared the obtained results. The GBMO+KNN performed on three benchmark datasets of breast cancer from UCI and the obtained results are compared with other existing cancer detection algorithms. These comparisons show significantly improves this classification accuracy with the proposed detection algorithm
