A Model-Driven Engineering Approach for ROS using Ontological Semantics
This paper presents a novel ontology-driven software engineering approach for
the development of industrial robotics control software. It introduces the
ReApp architecture that synthesizes model-driven engineering with semantic
technologies to facilitate the development and reuse of ROS-based components
and applications. In ReApp, we show how different ontological classification
systems for hardware, software, and capabilities help developers in discovering
suitable software components for their tasks and in applying them correctly.
The proposed model-driven tooling enables developers to work at higher
abstraction levels and fosters automatic code generation. It is underpinned by
ontologies to minimize discontinuities in the development workflow, with an
integrated development environment presenting a seamless interface to the user.
First results show the viability and synergy of the selected approach when
searching for or developing software with reuse in mind.Comment: Presented at DSLRob 2015 (arXiv:1601.00877), Stefan Zander, Georg

Scala Server Faces
Progress in the Java language has been slow over the last few years. Scala is emerging as one of the probable successors for Java with features such as type inference, higher order functions, closure support and sequence comprehensions. This allows object-oriented yet concise code to be written using Scala. While Java based MVC frameworks are still prevalent, Scala based frameworks along with Ruby on Rails, Django and PHP are emerging as competitors. Scala has a web framework called Lift which has made an attempt to borrow the advantages of other frameworks while keeping code concise. Since Sunās MVC framework, Java Server Faces 2.0 and its future versions seem to be heading in a reasonably progressive direction; I have developed a framework which attempts to overcome its limitations. I call such a framework āScala Server Facesā. This framework provides a way of writing Java EE applications in Scala yet borrow from the concept of āconvention over configurationā followed by rival web frameworks. Again, an Eclipse tool is provided to make the programmer\u27s task of writing code on the popular Eclipse platform. Scala Server Faces, the framework and the tool allows the programmer to write enterprise web applications in Scala by providing features such as templating support, CRUD screen generation for database model objects, an Ant script to help deployment and integration with the Glassfish Application Server
MDA-based ATL transformation to generate MVC 2 web models
Development and maintenance of Web application is still a complex and
error-prone process. We need integrated techniques and tool support for
automated generation of Web systems and a ready prescription for easy
maintenance. The MDA approach proposes an architecture taking into account the
development and maintenance of large and complex software. In this paper, we
apply MDA approach for generating PSM from UML design to MVC 2Web
implementation. That is why we have developed two meta-models handling UML
class diagrams and MVC 2 Web applications, then we have to set up
transformation rules. These last are expressed in ATL language. To specify the
transformation rules (especially CRUD methods) we used a UML profiles. To
clearly illustrate the result generated by this transformation, we converted
the XMI file generated in an EMF (Eclipse Modeling Framework) model.Comment: International Journal of Computer Science & Information

Semantic model-driven development of service-centric software architectures
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a recent architectural paradigm that has received much attention. The prevalent focus on platforms such as Web services, however, needs to be complemented by appropriate software engineering methods. We propose the model-driven development of service-centric software systems. We present in particular an investigation into the role of enriched semantic modelling for a modeldriven development framework for service-centric software systems. Ontologies as the foundations of semantic modelling and its enhancement
through architectural pattern modelling are at the core of the proposed approach. We introduce foundations and discuss the benefits and also the challenges in this context
Design Features for the Social Web: The Architecture of Deme
We characterize the "social Web" and argue for several features that are
desirable for users of socially oriented web applications. We describe the
architecture of Deme, a web content management system (WCMS) and extensible
framework, and show how it implements these desired features. We then compare
Deme on our desiderata with other web technologies: traditional HTML, previous
open source WCMSs (illustrated by Drupal), commercial Web 2.0 applications, and
open-source, object-oriented web application frameworks. The analysis suggests
that a WCMS can be well suited to building social websites if it makes more of
the features of object-oriented programming, such as polymorphism, and class
inheritance, available to non-programmers in an accessible vocabulary.Comment: Appeared in Luis Olsina, Oscar Pastor, Daniel Schwabe, Gustavo Rossi,

Distribution pattern-driven development of service architectures
Distributed systems are being constructed by composing a number of discrete components. This practice is particularly prevalent within the Web service domain in the form of service process orchestration and choreography. Often, enterprise systems are built from many existing discrete applications such as legacy applications exposed using Web service interfaces. There are a number of architectural configurations or distribution patterns, which express how a composed system is to be deployed in a distributed environment. However, the amount of code
required to realise these distribution patterns is considerable. In this paper, we propose a distribution
pattern-driven approach to service composition and architecting. We develop, based on a catalog of patterns, a UML-compliant framework, which takes existing Web service interfaces as its input and generates executable Web service compositions based on a distribution pattern chosen by the software architect
Semantic model-driven development of web service architectures.
Building service-based architectures has become a major area of interest since the advent of Web services. Modelling these architectures is a central activity. Model-driven development is a recent approach to developing software systems based on the idea of making models the central artefacts for design representation, analysis, and code generation.
We propose an ontology-based engineering methodology for semantic model-driven composition and transformation of Web service architectures. Ontology technology as a logic-based knowledge representation and reasoning framework can provide answers to the needs of sharable and reusable semantic models and descriptions needed for service engineering. Based on modelling, composition and code generation techniques for service architectures, our approach provides a methodological framework for ontology-based semantic service architecture
