Incorporating Agile with MDA Case Study: Online Polling System
Nowadays agile software development is used in greater extend but for small
organizations only, whereas MDA is suitable for large organizations but yet not
standardized. In this paper the pros and cons of Model Driven Architecture
(MDA) and Extreme programming have been discussed. As both of them have some
limitations and cannot be used in both large scale and small scale
organizations a new architecture has been proposed. In this model it is tried
to opt the advantages and important values to overcome the limitations of both

Software product line approaches produce reusable platforms and architectures for products set developed by specific companies. These approaches are strategic in nature requiring coordination, discipline,
commonality and communication. The Capability Maturity Model (CMM) contains important guidelines for process improvement, and specifies "what" we must have into account to achieve the disciplined processes

A Model-Based Approach to Managing Feature Binding Time in Software Product Line Engineering
Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) is a software reuse paradigm for developing software products, from managed reusable assets, based on analysis of commonality and variability (C & V) of a product line. Many approaches of SPLE use a feature as a key abstraction to capture the C&V. Recently, there have been increasing demands for the provision of flexibility about not only the variability of features but also the variability of when features should be selected (i.e., variability on feature binding times). Current approaches to support variations of feature binding time mostly focused on ad hoc implementation mechanisms. In this paper, we first identify the challenges of feature binding time management and then propose an approach to analyze the variation of feature binding times and use the results to specify model-based architectural components for the product line. The Unfulfilled Potential of Data-Driven Decision Making in Agile Software Development
With the general trend towards data-driven decision making (DDDM),
organizations are looking for ways to use DDDM to improve their decisions.
However, few studies have looked into the practitioners view of DDDM, in
particular for agile organizations. In this paper we investigated the
experiences of using DDDM, and how data can improve decision making. An emailed
questionnaire was sent out to 124 industry practitioners in agile software
developing companies, of which 84 answered. The results show that few
practitioners indicated a widespread use of DDDM in their current decision
making practices. The practitioners were more positive to its future use for
higher-level and more general decision making, fairly positive to its use for
requirements elicitation and prioritization decisions, while being less
positive to its future use at the team level. The practitioners do see a lot of
potential for DDDM in an agile context; however, currently unfulfilled
An ontology framework for developing platform-independent knowledge-based engineering systems in the aerospace industry
This paper presents the development of a novel knowledge-based engineering (KBE) framework for implementing platform-independent knowledge-enabled product design systems within the aerospace industry. The aim of the KBE framework is to strengthen the structure, reuse and portability of knowledge consumed within KBE systems in view of supporting the cost-effective and long-term preservation of knowledge within such systems. The proposed KBE framework uses an ontology-based approach for semantic knowledge management and adopts a model-driven architecture style from the software engineering discipline. Its phases are mainly (1) Capture knowledge required for KBE system; (2) Ontology model construct of KBE system; (3) Platform-independent model (PIM) technology selection and implementation and (4) Integration of PIM KBE knowledge with computer-aided design system. A rigorous methodology is employed which is comprised of five qualitative phases namely, requirement analysis for the KBE framework, identifying software and ontological engineering elements, integration of both elements, proof of concept prototype demonstrator and finally experts validation. A case study investigating four primitive three-dimensional geometry shapes is used to quantify the applicability of the KBE framework in the aerospace industry. Additionally, experts within the aerospace and software engineering sector validated the strengths/benefits and limitations of the KBE framework. The major benefits of the developed approach are in the reduction of man-hours required for developing KBE systems within the aerospace industry and the maintainability and abstraction of the knowledge required for developing KBE systems. This approach strengthens knowledge reuse and eliminates platform-specific approaches to developing KBE systems ensuring the preservation of KBE knowledge for the long term
Towards Product Lining Model-Driven Development Code Generators
A code generator systematically transforms compact models to detailed code.
Today, code generation is regarded as an integral part of model-driven
development (MDD). Despite its relevance, the development of code generators is
an inherently complex task and common methodologies and architectures are
lacking. Additionally, reuse and extension of existing code generators only
exist on individual parts. A systematic development and reuse based on a code
generator product line is still in its infancy. Thus, the aim of this paper is
to identify the mechanism necessary for a code generator product line by (a)
analyzing the common product line development approach and (b) mapping those to
a code generator specific infrastructure. As a first step towards realizing a
code generator product line infrastructure, we present a component-based
implementation approach based on ideas of variability-aware module systems and
