Collaborative Summarization of Topic-Related Videos
Large collections of videos are grouped into clusters by a topic keyword,
such as Eiffel Tower or Surfing, with many important visual concepts repeating
across them. Such a topically close set of videos have mutual influence on each
other, which could be used to summarize one of them by exploiting information
from others in the set. We build on this intuition to develop a novel approach
to extract a summary that simultaneously captures both important
particularities arising in the given video, as well as, generalities identified
from the set of videos. The topic-related videos provide visual context to
identify the important parts of the video being summarized. We achieve this by
developing a collaborative sparse optimization method which can be efficiently
solved by a half-quadratic minimization algorithm. Our work builds upon the
idea of collaborative techniques from information retrieval and natural
language processing, which typically use the attributes of other similar
objects to predict the attribute of a given object. Experiments on two
challenging and diverse datasets well demonstrate the efficacy of our approach

Efficient classification using parallel and scalable compressed model and Its application on intrusion detection
In order to achieve high efficiency of classification in intrusion detection,
a compressed model is proposed in this paper which combines horizontal
compression with vertical compression. OneR is utilized as horizontal
com-pression for attribute reduction, and affinity propagation is employed as
vertical compression to select small representative exemplars from large
training data. As to be able to computationally compress the larger volume of
training data with scalability, MapReduce based parallelization approach is
then implemented and evaluated for each step of the model compression process
abovementioned, on which common but efficient classification methods can be
directly used. Experimental application study on two publicly available
datasets of intrusion detection, KDD99 and CMDC2012, demonstrates that the
classification using the compressed model proposed can effectively speed up the
detection procedure at up to 184 times, most importantly at the cost of a
minimal accuracy difference with less than 1% on average
Semi-supervised model-based clustering with controlled clusters leakage
In this paper, we focus on finding clusters in partially categorized data
sets. We propose a semi-supervised version of Gaussian mixture model, called
C3L, which retrieves natural subgroups of given categories. In contrast to
other semi-supervised models, C3L is parametrized by user-defined leakage
level, which controls maximal inconsistency between initial categorization and
resulting clustering. Our method can be implemented as a module in practical
expert systems to detect clusters, which combine expert knowledge with true
distribution of data. Moreover, it can be used for improving the results of
less flexible clustering techniques, such as projection pursuit clustering. The
paper presents extensive theoretical analysis of the model and fast algorithm
for its efficient optimization. Experimental results show that C3L finds high
quality clustering model, which can be applied in discovering meaningful groups
in partially classified data
