A MAS-Based Cloud Service Brokering System to Respond Security Needs of Cloud Customers
Cloud computing is becoming a key factor in computer science and an important technology for many organizations to deliver different types of services. The companies which provide services to customers are called as cloud service providers. The cloud users (CUs) increase and require secure, reliable and trustworthy cloud service providers (CSPs) from the market. So, it’s a challenge for a new customer to choose the highly secure provider. This paper presents a cloud service brokering system in order to analyze and rank the secured cloud service provider among the available providers list. This model uses an autonomous and flexible agent in multi-agent system (MASs) that have an intelligent behavior and suitable tools for helping the brokering system to assess the security risks for the group of cloud providers which make decision of the more secured provider and justify the business needs of users in terms of security and reliability
Architectures for integration of information systems under conditions of dynamic reconfiguration of virtual enterprises
Tese Doutoramento Programa Doutoral em Industrial and Systems EngineeringThe aim of this thesis is to explore Architectures of information systems Integration under
conditions of dynamic reconfiguration of Virtual Enterprises. The main challenge that we identify
and which formed the basis of the research is that information technologies alone cannot support
efficiently and effectively the human knowledge and their natural way of interacting.
Already from Sausurre (1916) it could be argued that part of knowledge resides in person, and
the attempt to try to model it is sufficient for it to be misrepresented. And this is the motto of all
this work. Enhance the capabilities of emerging technologies, but in the sense that allow humanto-
human interaction, having the information system merely a means to make this possible.
Thus we argue that a communicational architecture of information systems integration (where
Pragmatics mechanisms are enabled) in virtual enterprises in dynamic reconfiguration scenarios,
are better able than the existing transactional architectures.
We propose a communicational architecture able to achieve an effective integration of
information systems, as well as designing its logical and functional model. We also define the
necessary semiotic framework in order to a communicational integration architecture could be
efficient and effective.
We implemented two prototypes to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed architecture.
The demonstration of the research hypothesis was demonstrated with the realization of two
experimentations where the ontologies have been unable to resolve disagreements or absences
of opinion inherent in people who collaborated. This was overcome with the implementation of
mechanisms that allow the co-creation between members of the group that participated in the
A new MDA-SOA based framework for intercloud interoperability
Cloud computing has been one of the most important topics in Information Technology which aims to assure scalable and reliable on-demand services over the Internet. The expansion of the application scope of cloud services would require cooperation between clouds from different providers that have heterogeneous functionalities. This collaboration between different cloud vendors can provide better Quality of Services (QoS) at the lower price. However, current cloud systems have been developed without concerns of seamless cloud interconnection, and actually they do not support intercloud interoperability to enable collaboration between cloud service providers. Hence, the PhD work is motivated to address interoperability issue between cloud providers as a challenging research objective.
This thesis proposes a new framework which supports inter-cloud interoperability in a heterogeneous computing resource cloud environment with the goal of dispatching the workload to the most effective clouds available at runtime.
Analysing different methodologies that have been applied to resolve various problem scenarios related to interoperability lead us to exploit Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) methods as appropriate approaches for our inter-cloud framework. Moreover, since distributing the operations in a cloud-based environment is a nondeterministic polynomial time (NP-complete) problem, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based job scheduler proposed as a part of interoperability framework, offering workload migration with the best performance at the least cost. A new Agent Based Simulation (ABS) approach is proposed to model the inter-cloud environment with three types of agents: Cloud Subscriber agent, Cloud Provider agent, and Job agent. The ABS model is proposed to evaluate the proposed framework.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - (Referencia da bolsa: SFRH SFRH / BD / 33965 / 2009) and EC 7th Framework Programme under grant agreement n° FITMAN 604674 (http://www.fitman-fi.eu
Intelligent business processes composition based on mas, semantic and cloud integration (IPCASCI)
[EN]Component reuse is one of the techniques that most clearly contributes to the
evolution of the software industry by providing efficient mechanisms to create quality
software. Reuse increases both software reliability, due to the fact that it uses
previously tested software components, and development productivity, and leads to a
clear reduction in cost.
Web services have become are an standard for application development on cloud
computing environments and are essential in business process development. These
services facilitate a software construction that is relatively fast and efficient, two
aspects which can be improved by defining suitable models of reuse. This research
work is intended to define a model which contains the construction requirements of
new services from service composition. To this end, the composition is based on
tested Web services and artificial intelligent tools at our disposal.
It is believed that a multi-agent architecture based on virtual organizations is a
suitable tool to facilitate the construction of cloud computing environments for
business processes from other existing environments, and with help from ontological
models as well as tools providing the standard BPEL (Business Process Execution
Language). In the context of this proposal, we must generate a new business process
from the available services in the platform, starting with the requirement
specifications that the process should meet. These specifications will be composed of a
semi-free description of requirements to describe the new service.
The virtual organizations based on a multi-agent system will manage the tasks
requiring intelligent behaviour. This system will analyse the input (textual description
of the proposal) in order to deconstruct it into computable functionalities, which will
be subsequently treated. Web services (or business processes) stored to be reused
have been created from the perspective of SOA architectures and associated with an
ontological component, which allows the multi-agent system (based on virtual
organizations) to identify the services to complete the reuse process.
The proposed model develops a service composition by applying a standard BPEL
once the services that will compose the solution business process have been
identified. This standard allows us to compose Web services in an easy way and
provides the advantage of a direct mapping from Business Process Management

MSL Framework: (Minimum Service Level Framework) for Cloud Providers and Users
Cloud Computing ensures parallel computing and emerged as an efficient technology to meet
the challenges of rapid growth of data that we experienced in this Internet age. Cloud
computing is an emerging technology that offers subscription based services, and provide
different models such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS among other models to cater the needs of
different user groups. The technology has enormous benefits but there are serious concerns
and challenges related to lack of uniform standards or nonexistence of minimum benchmark
for level of services offered across the industry to provide an effective, uniform and reliable
service to the cloud users. As the cloud computing is gaining popularity, organizations and
users are having problems to adopt the service ue to lack of minimum service level
framework which can act as a benchmark in the selection of the cloud provider and provide
quality of service according to the user’s expectations. The situation becomes more critical
due to distributed nature of the service provider which can be offering service from any part
of the world. Due to lack of minimum service level framework that will act as a benchmark
to provide a uniform service across the industry there are serious concerns raised recently interms
of security and data privacy breaches, authentication and authorization issues, lack of
third party audit and identity management problems, integrity, confidentiality and variable
data availability standards, no uniform incident response and monitoring standards,
interoperability and lack of portability standards, identity management issues, lack of
infrastructure protection services standards and weak governance and compliance standards
are major cause of concerns for cloud users. Due to confusion and absence of universal
agreed SLAs for a service model, different quality of services is being provided across the
cloud industry. Currently there is no uniform performance model agreed by all stakeholders;
which can provide performance criteria to measure, evaluate, and benchmark the level of
services offered by various cloud providers in the industry. With the implementation of
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and demand from cloud users to have Green
SLAs that provides better resource allocations mechanism, there will be serious implications
for the cloud providers and its consumers due to lack of uniformity in SLAs and variable
standards of service offered by various cloud providers. This research examines weaknesses in service level agreements offered by various cloud
providers and impact due to absence of uniform agreed minimum service level framework on
the adoption and usage of cloud service. The research is focused around higher education
case study and proposes a conceptual model based on uniform minimum service model that
acts as benchmark for the industry to ensure quality of service to the cloud users in the higher
education institution and remove the barriers to the adoption of cloud technology. The
proposed Minimum Service Level (MSL) framework, provides a set of minimum and
uniform standards in the key concern areas raised by the participants of HE institution which
are essential to the cloud users and provide a minimum quality benchmark that becomes a
uniform standard across the industry. The proposed model produces a cloud computing
implementation evaluation criteria which is an attempt to reduce the adoption barrier of the
cloud technology and set minimum uniform standards followed by all the cloud providers
regardless of their hosting location so that their performance can be measured, evaluated and
compared across the industry to improve the overall QoS (Quality of Service) received by the
cloud users, remove the adoption barriers and concerns of the cloud users and increase the
competition across the cloud industry.

The influence of mobile ad fraud on intercompany relationships : the case of Hang My Ads
Since its emergence, the mobile advertising industry has been struggling with fraud issues that cause great financial losses and damage how companies relate to one another. The present study exlores the effects of fraud issues taking place in the mobile advertising industry on intercompany relationships; particularly, it looks at the mobile app advertising ecosystem, the focal context of Hang My Ads and the adaptation processes undertaken by advertisers and publishers to tackle the effects of fraud.
The mobile app advertising ecosystem is found to be organized in advertisers, intermediates, publishers and technology companies, and characterized by marking challenges such as fraud, lack of transparency and lack of regulation. Advertisers and publishers seem to adapt in similar ways to one another, but differences are found at the processes of service planning and scheduling, production, and "other" - where advertisers adapt more and seem to invest more resources; and at the level of organization structure - where adaptations appear to be related with company size. Furthermore, the case confirms the occurrence of adaptations taking place in the dyad and propagating to the broader network. In addition to financial losses and poor ROI, the reallocation of budgets according to a publisher's competence to handle fraud is confirmed; moreover, it is found that damages at the levels of user experience, industry's reputation and companies' efficiency are caused by fraud. A visual scheme of the ecosystem's mapping and a modified framework of analysis are proposed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Moving Forward with Digital Disruption: What Big Data, IoT, Synthetic Biology, AI, Blockchain, and Platform Businesses Mean to Libraries
Digital disruption, also known as “the fourth industrial revolution,” is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. This issue of Library Technology Reports (vol. 56, no. 2) examines today’s leading-edge technologies and their disruptive impacts on our society through examples such as extended reality, Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), synthetic biology, 3-D bio-printing, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and platform businesses in the sharing economy. This report explains how new digital technologies are merging the physical and the biological with the digital; what kind of transformations are taking place as a result in production, management, and governance; and how libraries can continue to innovate with new technologies while keeping a critical distance from the rising ideology of techno-utopianism and at the same time contributing to social good
