    Improved particle swarm optimization algorithm for multi-reservoir system operation

    AbstractIn this paper, a hybrid improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm is proposed for the optimization of hydroelectric power scheduling in multi-reservoir systems. The conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is improved in two ways: (1) The linearly decreasing inertia weight coefficient (LDIWC) is replaced by a self-adaptive exponential inertia weight coefficient (SEIWC), which could make the PSO algorithm more balanceable and more effective in both global and local searches. (2) The crossover and mutation idea inspired by the genetic algorithm (GA) is imported into the particle updating method to enhance the diversity of populations. The potential ability of IPSO in nonlinear numerical function optimization was first tested with three classical benchmark functions. Then, a long-term multi-reservoir system operation model based on IPSO was designed and a case study was carried out in the Minjiang Basin in China, where there is a power system consisting of 26 hydroelectric power plants. The scheduling results of the IPSO algorithm were found to outperform PSO and to be comparable with the results of the dynamic programming successive approximation (DPSA) algorithm

    Novel Artificial Human Optimization Field Algorithms - The Beginning

    New Artificial Human Optimization (AHO) Field Algorithms can be created from scratch or by adding the concept of Artificial Humans into other existing Optimization Algorithms. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been very popular for solving complex optimization problems due to its simplicity. In this work, new Artificial Human Optimization Field Algorithms are created by modifying existing PSO algorithms with AHO Field Concepts. These Hybrid PSO Algorithms comes under PSO Field as well as AHO Field. There are Hybrid PSO research articles based on Human Behavior, Human Cognition and Human Thinking etc. But there are no Hybrid PSO articles which based on concepts like Human Disease, Human Kindness and Human Relaxation. This paper proposes new AHO Field algorithms based on these research gaps. Some existing Hybrid PSO algorithms are given a new name in this work so that it will be easy for future AHO researchers to find these novel Artificial Human Optimization Field Algorithms. A total of 6 Artificial Human Optimization Field algorithms titled "Human Safety Particle Swarm Optimization (HuSaPSO)", "Human Kindness Particle Swarm Optimization (HKPSO)", "Human Relaxation Particle Swarm Optimization (HRPSO)", "Multiple Strategy Human Particle Swarm Optimization (MSHPSO)", "Human Thinking Particle Swarm Optimization (HTPSO)" and "Human Disease Particle Swarm Optimization (HDPSO)" are tested by applying these novel algorithms on Ackley, Beale, Bohachevsky, Booth and Three-Hump Camel Benchmark Functions.     Renyi’s entropy based multilevel thresholding using a novel meta-heuristics algorithm

    Multi-level image thresholding is the most direct and effective method for image segmentation, which is a key step for image analysis and computer vision, however, as the number of threshold values increases, exhaustive search does not work efficiently and effectively and evolutionary algorithms often fall into a local optimal solution. In the paper, a meta-heuristics algorithm based on the breeding mechanism of Chinese hybrid rice is proposed to seek the optimal multi-level thresholds for image segmentation and Renyi’s entropy is utilized as the fitness function. Experiments have been run on four scanning electron microscope images of cement and four standard images, moreover, it is compared with other six classical and novel evolutionary algorithms: genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization algorithm, differential evolution algorithm, ant lion optimization algorithm, whale optimization algorithm, and salp swarm algorithm. Meanwhile, some indicators, including the average fitness values, standard deviation, peak signal to noise ratio, and structural similarity index are used as evaluation criteria in the experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed method prevails over the other algorithms involved in the paper on most indicators and it can segment cement scanning electron microscope image effectively

    An island based hybrid evolutionary algorithm for optimization

Recently, more and more different evolutionary techniques have been developed, especially hybrid evolutionary algorithms. This paper proposes an island based hybrid evolutionary algorithm (IHEA) for optimization, which is based on Particle swarm optimization (PSO), Fast Evolutionary Programming (FEP), and Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA). Within IHEA, an island model is designed to cooperatively search for the global optima in search space. By combining the strengths of the three component algorithms, IHEA greatly improves the optimization performance of the three basic algorithms.
