Algorithms selection and adaptation in accord with architecture for RBF neural network based face authentication SoC
International audienceThis paper describes the algorithms applied to a Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network. This neural network is used as a classifier to design a human face authentication system. The aim of this project is to obtain a low cost system on chip (SoC) to replace password identification for one person on mobile devices. Several parts of the neural network need to be modified to obtain good performances for this application with cost limited hardware resources. For the system design, the algorithms are selected and adapted in accord with architecture implantation on hardware platform (methodology AAA). Also we present different adaptations made for a full integration of RBF neural network (learning and recognition steps)
A committee machine gas identification system based on dynamically reconfigurable FPGA
This paper proposes a gas identification system based on the committee machine (CM) classifier, which combines various gas identification algorithms, to obtain a unified decision with improved accuracy. The CM combines five different classifiers: K nearest neighbors (KNNs), multilayer perceptron (MLP), radial basis function (RBF), Gaussian mixture model (GMM), and probabilistic principal component analysis (PPCA). Experiments on real sensors' data proved the effectiveness of our system with an improved accuracy over individual classifiers. Due to the computationally intensive nature of CM, its implementation requires significant hardware resources. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a novel time multiplexing hardware implementation using a dynamically reconfigurable field programmable gate array (FPGA) platform. The processing is divided into three stages: sampling and preprocessing, pattern recognition, and decision stage. Dynamically reconfigurable FPGA technique is used to implement the system in a sequential manner, thus using limited hardware resources of the FPGA chip. The system is successfully tested for combustible gas identification application using our in-house tin-oxide gas sensors
Optical implementations of radial basis classifiers
We describe two optical systems based on the radial basis function approach to pattern classification. An optical-disk-based system for handwritten character recognition is demonstrated. The optical system computes the Euclidean distance between an unknown input and 650 stored patterns at a demonstrated rate of 26,000 pattern comparisons/s. The ultimate performance of this system is limited by optical-disk resolution to 10^11 binary operations/s. An adaptive system is also presented that facilitates on-line learning and provides additional robustness
SHADHO: Massively Scalable Hardware-Aware Distributed Hyperparameter Optimization
Computer vision is experiencing an AI renaissance, in which machine learning
models are expediting important breakthroughs in academic research and
commercial applications. Effectively training these models, however, is not
trivial due in part to hyperparameters: user-configured values that control a
model's ability to learn from data. Existing hyperparameter optimization
methods are highly parallel but make no effort to balance the search across
heterogeneous hardware or to prioritize searching high-impact spaces. In this
paper, we introduce a framework for massively Scalable Hardware-Aware
Distributed Hyperparameter Optimization (SHADHO). Our framework calculates the
relative complexity of each search space and monitors performance on the
learning task over all trials. These metrics are then used as heuristics to
assign hyperparameters to distributed workers based on their hardware. We first
demonstrate that our framework achieves double the throughput of a standard
distributed hyperparameter optimization framework by optimizing SVM for MNIST
using 150 distributed workers. We then conduct model search with SHADHO over
the course of one week using 74 GPUs across two compute clusters to optimize
U-Net for a cell segmentation task, discovering 515 models that achieve a lower
validation loss than standard U-Net.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
FPGA-based enhanced probabilistic convergent weightless network for human iris recognition
This paper investigates how human identification and identity verification can be performed by the application of an FPGA based weightless neural network, entitled the Enhanced Probabilistic Convergent Neural Network (EPCN), to the iris biometric modality. The human iris is processed for feature vectors which will be employed for formation of connectivity, during learning and subsequent recognition. The pre-processing of the iris, prior to EPCN training, is very minimal. Structural modifications were also made to the Random Access Memory (RAM) based neural network which enhances its robustness when applied in real-time
