Indexación: Scopus. We consider the Location-Routing Problem with Heterogeneous Fleet (LRPH) in which the goal is to determine the depots to be opened, the customers to be assigned to each open depot, and the corresponding routes fulfilling the demand of the customers and by considering a heterogeneous fleet. We propose a comparison of granular approaches of Simulated Annealing (GSA), of Variable Neighborhood Search (GVNS) and of a probabilistic Tabu Search (pGTS) for the LRPH. Thus, the proposed approaches consider a subset of the search space in which non-favorable movements are discarded regarding a granularity factor. The proposed algorithms are experimentally compared for the solution of the LRPH, by taking into account the CPU time and the quality of the solutions obtained on the instances adapted from the literature. The computational results show that algorithm GSA is able to obtain high quality solutions within short CPU times, improving the results obtained by the other proposed approaches.https://revistas.unal.edu.co/index.php/dyna/article/view/55533/5896

A Metaheuristic Based Approach for the Customer-Centric Perishable Food Distribution Problem

Including FEDER funds) and PID2020-112754GB-I00 (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation).High transportation costs and poor quality of service are common vulnerabilities in various logistics networks, especially in food distribution. Here we propose a many-objective Customercentric Perishable Food Distribution Problem that focuses on the cost, the quality of the product, and the service level improvement by considering not only time windows but also the customers’ target time and their priority. Recognizing the difficulty of solving such model, we propose a General Variable Neighborhood Search (GVNS) metaheuristic based approach that allows to efficiently solve a subproblem while allowing us to obtain a set of solutions. These solutions are evaluated over some non-optimized criteria and then ranked using an a posteriori approach that requires minimal information about decision maker preferences. The computational results show (a) GVNS achieved same quality solutions as an exact solver (CPLEX) in the subproblem; (b) GVNS can generate a wide number of candidate solutions, and (c) the use of the a posteriori approach makes easy to generate different decision maker profiles which in turn allows to obtain different rankings of the solutions.CNRSTSpanish Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Competitiveness TIN2017-86647-PEuropean Commission TIN2017-86647-PSpanish Government PID2020-112754GB-I0

Multi-objective vehicle routing and loading with time window constraints:a real-life application

    Get PDF
Motivated by a real-life application, this research considers the multi-objective vehicle routing and loading problem with time window constraints which is a variant of the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows with one/two-dimensional loading constraints. The problem consists of routing a number of vehicles to serve a set of customers and determining the best way of loading the goods ordered by the customers onto the vehicles used for transportation. The three objectives pertaining to minimisation of total travel distance, number of routes to use and total number of mixed orders in the same pallet are, more often than not, conflicting. To achieve a solution with no preferential information known in advance from the decision maker, the problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model with one objective—minimising the total cost, where the three original objectives are incorporated as parts of the total cost function. A Generalised Variable Neighbourhood Search (GVNS) algorithm is designed as the search engine to relieve the computational burden inherent to the application of the MILP model. To evaluate the effectiveness of the GVNS algorithm, a real instance case study is generated and solved by both the GVNS algorithm and the software provided by our industrial partner. The results show that the suggested approach provides solutions with better overall values than those found by the software provided by our industrial partner

A Constraint Programming Approach for the Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows

The team orienteering problem with time windows (TOPTW) is a NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. It has many real-world applications, for example, routing technicians and disaster relief routing. In the TOPTW, a set of locations is given. For each, the profit, service time and time window are known. A fleet of homogenous vehicles are available for visiting locations and collecting their associated profits. Each vehicle is constrained by a maximum tour duration. The problem is to plan a set of vehicle routes that begin and end at a depot, visit each location no more than once by incorporating time window constraints. The objective is to maximize the profit collected. In this study we discuss how to use constraint programming (CP) to formulate and solve TOPTW by applying interval variables, global constraints and domain filtering algorithms. We propose a CP model and two branching strategies for the TOPTW. The approach finds 119 of the best-known solutions for 304 TOPTW benchmark instances from the literature. Moreover, the proposed method finds one new best-known solution for TOPTW benchmark instances and proves the optimality of the best-known solutions for two additional instances

A Special Case of the Multiple Traveling Salesmen Problem in End-of-Aisle Picking Systems

This study focuses on the problem of sequencing requests for an end-of-aisle automated storage and retrieval system in which each retrieved load must be returned to its earlier storage location after a worker has picked some products from the load. At the picking station, a buffer is maintained to absorb any fluctuations in speed between the worker and the storage/retrieval machine. We show that, under conditions, the problem of optimally sequencing the requests in this system with a buffer size of m loads forms a special case of the multiple traveling salesmen problem in which each salesman visits the same number of cities. Several interesting structural properties for the problem are mathematically shown. In addition, a branch-and-cut method and heuristics are proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed simulated annealing-based heuristic performs well in all circumstances and significantly outperforms benchmark heuristics. For instances with negligible picking times for the worker, we show that this heuristic provides solutions that are, on average, within 1.8% from the optimal value

Minimizing total weighted latency in home healthcare routing and scheduling with patient prioritization

We study a home healthcare routing and scheduling problem, where multiple healthcare service provider teams should visit a given set of patients at their homes. The problem involves assigning each patient to a team and generating the routes of the teams such that each patient is visited once. When patients are prioritized according to the severity of their condition or their service urgency, the problem minimizes the total weighted waiting time of the patients, where the weights represent the triage levels. In this form, the problem generalizes the multiple traveling repairman problem. To obtain optimal solutions for small to moderate-size instances, we propose a level-based Integer Programming (IP) model on a transformed input network. To solve larger instances, we develop a metaheuristic algorithm that relies on a customized saving procedure and a General Variable Neighborhood Search algorithm. We evaluate the IP model and the metaheuristic on various small, medium, and large-sized instances coming from the vehicle routing literature. While the IP model finds the optimal solutions to all the small and medium-sized instances within three hours of run time, the metaheuristic algorithm achieves the optimal solutions to all instances within merely a few seconds. We also provide a case study involving Covid-19 patients in a district of Istanbul and derive insights for the planners by means of several analyses
