The State of the Art in Deep Learning Applications, Challenges, and Future Prospects::A Comprehensive Review of Flood Forecasting and Management
Floods are a devastating natural calamity that may seriously harm both infrastructure and people. Accurate flood forecasts and control are essential to lessen these effects and safeguard populations. By utilizing its capacity to handle massive amounts of data and provide accurate forecasts, deep learning has emerged as a potent tool for improving flood prediction and control. The current state of deep learning applications in flood forecasting and management is thoroughly reviewed in this work. The review discusses a variety of subjects, such as the data sources utilized, the deep learning models used, and the assessment measures adopted to judge their efficacy. It assesses current approaches critically and points out their advantages and disadvantages. The article also examines challenges with data accessibility, the interpretability of deep learning models, and ethical considerations in flood prediction. The report also describes potential directions for deep-learning research to enhance flood predictions and control. Incorporating uncertainty estimates into forecasts, integrating many data sources, developing hybrid models that mix deep learning with other methodologies, and enhancing the interpretability of deep learning models are a few of these. These research goals can help deep learning models become more precise and effective, which will result in better flood control plans and forecasts. Overall, this review is a useful resource for academics and professionals working on the topic of flood forecasting and management. By reviewing the current state of the art, emphasizing difficulties, and outlining potential areas for future study, it lays a solid basis. Communities may better prepare for and lessen the destructive effects of floods by implementing cutting-edge deep learning algorithms, thereby protecting people and infrastructure
IR Design for Application-Specific Natural Language: A Case Study on Traffic Data
In the realm of software applications in the transportation industry,
Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) have enjoyed widespread adoption due to their
ease of use and various other benefits. With the ceaseless progress in computer
performance and the rapid development of large-scale models, the possibility of
programming using natural language in specified applications - referred to as
Application-Specific Natural Language (ASNL) - has emerged. ASNL exhibits
greater flexibility and freedom, which, in turn, leads to an increase in
computational complexity for parsing and a decrease in processing performance.
To tackle this issue, our paper advances a design for an intermediate
representation (IR) that caters to ASNL and can uniformly process
transportation data into graph data format, improving data processing
performance. Experimental comparisons reveal that in standard data query
operations, our proposed IR design can achieve a speed improvement of over
forty times compared to direct usage of standard XML format data
Tourism and heritage in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone
Tourism and Heritage in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ) uses an ethnographic lens to explore the dissonances associated with the commodification of Chornobyl's heritage.
The book considers the role of the guides as experience brokers, focusing on the synergy between tourists and guides in the performance of heritage interpretation. Banaszkiewicz proposes to perceive tour guides as important actors in the bottom-up construction of heritage discourse contributing to more inclusive and participatory approach to heritage management. Demonstrating that the CEZ has been going through a dynamic transformation into a mass tourism attraction, the book offers a critical reflection on heritagisation as a meaning-making process in which the resources of the past are interpreted, negotiated, and recognised as a valuable legacy. Applying the concepts of dissonant heritage to describe the heterogeneous character of the CEZ, the book broadens the interpretative scope of dark tourism which takes on a new dimension in the context of the war in Ukraine.
Tourism and Heritage in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone argues that post-disaster sites such as Chornobyl can teach us a great deal about the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage for future generations. The book will be of interest to academics and students who are engaged in the study of heritage, tourism, memory, disasters and Eastern Europe

Procedural Generation of Complex Roundabouts for Autonomous Vehicle Testing
High-definition roads are an essential component of realistic driving
scenario simulation for autonomous vehicle testing. Roundabouts are one of the
key road segments that have not been thoroughly investigated. Based on the
geometric constraints of the nearby road structure, this work presents a novel
method for procedurally building roundabouts. The suggested method can result
in roundabout lanes that are not perfectly circular and resemble real-world
roundabouts by allowing approaching roadways to be connected to a roundabout at
any angle. One can easily incorporate the roundabout in their HD road
generation process or use the standalone roundabouts in scenario-based testing
of autonomous driving
Machine Learning Research Trends in Africa: A 30 Years Overview with Bibliometric Analysis Review
In this paper, a critical bibliometric analysis study is conducted, coupled
with an extensive literature survey on recent developments and associated
applications in machine learning research with a perspective on Africa. The
presented bibliometric analysis study consists of 2761 machine learning-related
documents, of which 98% were articles with at least 482 citations published in
903 journals during the past 30 years. Furthermore, the collated documents were
retrieved from the Science Citation Index EXPANDED, comprising research
publications from 54 African countries between 1993 and 2021. The bibliometric
study shows the visualization of the current landscape and future trends in
machine learning research and its application to facilitate future
collaborative research and knowledge exchange among authors from different
research institutions scattered across the African continent

COVID-19. Potential applications of AI in this accelerating pandemic include, but are not limited to, early detection and diagnosis, massive agent modeling and simulation, data analytics, assistive robots, disinfection robots, public awareness and patrolling, contactless delivery services, virtual healthcare assistants, drug repurposing and vaccination discovery. This chapter sheds light on the roles AI and robotics can play in fighting this disastrous pandemic, and possible future ones. It highlights several potential applications to transform this challenge into opportunities.
