Using SPIN to Analyse the Tree Identification Phase of the IEEE 1394 High-Performance Serial Bus(FireWire)Protocol
We describe how the tree identification phase of the IEEE 1394 high-performance serial bus (FireWire) protocol is modelled in Promela and verified using SPIN. The verification of arbitrary system configurations is discussed
Virtual Communication Stack: Towards Building Integrated Simulator of Mobile Ad Hoc Network-based Infrastructure for Disaster Response Scenarios
Responses to disastrous events are a challenging problem, because of possible
damages on communication infrastructures. For instance, after a natural
disaster, infrastructures might be entirely destroyed. Different network
paradigms were proposed in the literature in order to deploy adhoc network, and
allow dealing with the lack of communications. However, all these solutions
focus only on the performance of the network itself, without taking into
account the specificities and heterogeneity of the components which use it.
This comes from the difficulty to integrate models with different levels of
abstraction. Consequently, verification and validation of adhoc protocols
cannot guarantee that the different systems will work as expected in
operational conditions. However, the DEVS theory provides some mechanisms to
allow integration of models with different natures. This paper proposes an
integrated simulation architecture based on DEVS which improves the accuracy of
ad hoc infrastructure simulators in the case of disaster response scenarios.Comment: Preprint. Unpublishe
On the Automated Synthesis of Enterprise Integration Patterns to Adapt Choreography-based Distributed Systems
The Future Internet is becoming a reality, providing a large-scale computing
environments where a virtually infinite number of available services can be
composed so to fit users' needs. Modern service-oriented applications will be
more and more often built by reusing and assembling distributed services. A key
enabler for this vision is then the ability to automatically compose and
dynamically coordinate software services. Service choreographies are an
emergent Service Engineering (SE) approach to compose together and coordinate
services in a distributed way. When mismatching third-party services are to be
composed, obtaining the distributed coordination and adaptation logic required
to suitably realize a choreography is a non-trivial and error prone task.
Automatic support is then needed. In this direction, this paper leverages
previous work on the automatic synthesis of choreography-based systems, and
describes our preliminary steps towards exploiting Enterprise Integration
Patterns to deal with a form of choreography adaptation.Comment: In Proceedings FOCLASA 2015, arXiv:1512.0694
The effect of complex falls prevention interventions on falls in residential aged care settings: A systematic review protocol
The objective of this review is to synthesize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of complex falls prevention interventions on fall reductions in the residential aged care population, implemented at two or more of the following levels: organization, facility or resident.
Specifically the review question is: What is the effect of complex falls prevention interventions on falls in residential aged care settings
Functional Verification of Power Electronic Systems
This project is the final work of the degree in Industrial Electronics and
Automatic Engineering. It has global concepts of electronics but it focuses
in power electronic systems.
There is a need for reliable testing systems to ensure the good functionality of power electronic systems. The constant evolution of this products
requires the development of new testing techniques. This project aims to develop a new testing system to accomplish the functional verification of a new
power electronic system manufactured on a company that is in the power
electronic sector . This test system consists on two test bed platforms, one
to test the control part of the systems and the other one to test their functionality. A software to perform the test is also designed. Finally, the testing
protocol is presented.
This design is validated and then implemented on a buck converter and
an inverter that are manufactured at the company. The results show that
the test system is reliable and is capable of testing the functional verification
of the two power electronic system successfully.
In summary, this design can be introduced in the power electronic production process to test the two products ensuring their reliability in the
market
A multipopulation parallel genetic simulated annealing based QoS routing and wavelength assignment integration algorithm for multicast in optical networks
Copyright @ 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. In this paper, we propose an integrated Quality of Service (QoS) routing algorithm for optical networks. Given a QoS multicast request and the delay interval specified by users, the proposed algorithm can find a flexible-QoS-based cost suboptimal routing tree. The algorithm first constructs the multicast tree based on the multipopulation parallel genetic simulated annealing algorithm, and then assigns wavelengths to the tree based on the wavelength graph. In the algorithm, routing and wavelength assignment are integrated into a single process. For routing, the objective is to find a cost suboptimal multicast tree. For wavelength assignment, the objective is to minimize the delay of the multicast tree, which is achieved by minimizing the number of wavelength conversion. Thus both the cost of multicast tree and the user QoS satisfaction degree can approach the optimal. Our algorithm also considers load balance. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is feasible and effective. We also discuss the practical realization mechanisms of the algorithm. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of UK under Grant EP/E060722/1, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 60673159 and 70671020, the National High-Tech Research and Development Plan of China under Grant no. 2006AA01Z214, Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, and the Key Project of Chinese Ministry of Education under Grant no. 108040
