Modification of Control Oil Feeding with PLC Using Simulation Visual Basic and Neural Network Analysis

    Get PDF
The oil feeding system is an oil distribution system used in engine lubrication by flowing it directly to the engine parts to be lubricated through pipes. In addition, it is also a raw material for the production process by collecting the oil first in the storage tank, then weighing it on the oil scale before use in the production process. The current control is still using the conventional model. The operating system is still manual, and the absence of identity and damage information makes it difficult for the engineer to troubleshoot. The research method is to modify the oil feeding system control using PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and Visual Basic to display process information. This process uses the Neural Network (NN) method. The simulation results show that the PLC program and visual basic software can be connected properly. The speed of the data transfer test connection that can be obtained is 32 ms. The prediction process of the oil feeding system using the backpropagation algorithm Neural Network and the activation function, which uses the binary sigmoid function (logsig) with the 17-10-1 architecture having very good performance getting the MSE value below the error value of 0.001 maximum epoch 961 and hidden layer 10 with an MSE value of 0.00099915

    Get PDF
The level of automation and wireless communication has increased in heavy machinery recently. This requires utilizing new devices and communication solutions in heavy machinery applications which involve demanding operating conditions and challenging life-cycle management. Therefore, the applied devices have to be robust and hardware architectures flexible, consisting of generic modules. In research and development projects devices that have various communication interfaces and insufficient mechanical and electrical robustness need to be applied. Although this thesis has its main focus on machines utilized as research platforms, many of the challenges are similar with commercial machines. The applicability of typical solutions for data transfer is discussed. Controller area network with a standardized higher level protocol is proposed to be applied where data signalling rates above 1 Mb/s are not required. The main benefits are the availability of robust, generic devices and well-established software tools for configuration management. Ethernet can be utilized to network equipment with high data rates, typically used for perception. Although deterministic industrial Ethernet protocols would fulfil most requirements, the conventional internet protocol suite is likely to be applied due to device availability.Sometimes sensors and other devices without a suitable communication interface need to be applied. In addition, device-related real-time processing or accurate synchronization of hardware signals may be required. A small circuit board with a microcontroller can be utilized as a generic embedded module for building robust, small and cost-efficient prototype devices that have a controller area network interface. Although various microcontroller boards are commercially available, designing one for heavy machinery applications, in particular, has benefits in robustness, size, interfaces, and flexible software development. The design of such a generic embedded module is presented. The device-specific challenges of building an automated machine are discussed. Unexpected switch-off of embedded computers has to be prevented by the control system to avoid file system errors. Moreover, the control system has to protect the batteries against deep discharge when the engine is not running. With many devices, protective enclosures with heating or cooling are required. The electronic control systems of two automated machines utilized as research platforms are presented and discussed as examples. The hardware architectures of the control systems are presented, following the proposed communication solutions as far as is feasible. Several applications of the generic embedded module within the control systems are described. Several research topics have been covered utilizing the automated machines. In this thesis, a cost-efficient operator-assisting functionality of an excavator is presented and discussed in detail. The results of this thesis give not only research institutes but also machine manufacturers and their subcontractors an opportunity to streamline the prototyping of automated heavy machinery

Design, modelling, simulation and integration of cyber physical systems: Methods and applications

    Get PDF
The main drivers for the development and evolution of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) are the reduction of development costs and time along with the enhancement of the designed products. The aim of this survey paper is to provide an overview of different types of system and the associated transition process from mechatronics to CPS and cloud-based (IoT) systems. It will further consider the requirement that methodologies for CPS-design should be part of a multi-disciplinary development process within which designers should focus not only on the separate physical and computational components, but also on their integration and interaction. Challenges related to CPS-design are therefore considered in the paper from the perspectives of the physical processes, computation and integration respectively. Illustrative case studies are selected from different system levels starting with the description of the overlaying concept of Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPSs). The analysis and evaluation of the specific properties of a sub-system using a condition monitoring system, important for the maintenance purposes, is then given for a wind turbine

Plumbing leakage detection system with water level detector controlled by programmable logic controller type Omron CPM2A

    Get PDF
There is a chance of leakage in the plumbing caused by water pressure in the pipes, improper installation of pipe connections, or external influences, such as earthquakes. Plumbing leakage that is detected too late can cause damage to other systems. It is necessary to have a plumbing leakage detection system to detect a leak in the plumbing. Therefore, in this research, a plumbing leakage detection system is designed with a water level detector (WLD) controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) type Omron CPM2A. The method used in this research is designing the optimal model form of the system, which is distinguished by designing hardware and software, testing the devices, such as power supply, WLD, and channel relay module (CRM), and making conclusions. From the results of this research, it was found that the system works well in detecting leakage of plumbing, as indicated by all transistors' ability to work well where the electrodes (E1 and E2) are connected by water. The transistor in the WLD module will work as a switch or transistor in the saturation position. In this research, it can be seen that even though there is a leakage from the relay contacts of 1.8 VDC, it is still considered in a safe condition because to provide a trigger to the 3B3D Module, a minimum of 12 VDC is required. In addition, when the relay is not working or off, the measurement at the normally closed (NC) terminal is 12 VDC

On-device Security and Privacy Mechanisms for Resource-limited Devices: A Bottom-up Approach

    Get PDF
This doctoral dissertation introduces novel mechanisms to provide on-device security and privacy for resource-limited smart devices and their applications. These mechanisms aim to cover five fundamental contributions in the emerging Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Internet of Things (IoT), and Industrial IoT (IIoT) fields. First, we present a host-based fingerprinting solution for device identification that is complementary to other security services like device authentication and access control. Then, we design a kernel- and user-level detection framework that aims to discover compromised resource-limited devices based on behavioral analysis. Further we apply dynamic analysis of smart devices’ applications to uncover security and privacy risks in real-time. Then, we describe a solution to enable digital forensics analysis on data extracted from interconnected resource-limited devices that form a smart environment. Finally, we offer to researchers from industry and academia a collection of benchmark solutions for the evaluation of the discussed security mechanisms on different smart domains. For each contribution, this dissertation comprises specific novel tools and techniques that can be applied either independently or combined to enable a broader security services for the CPS, IoT, and IIoT domains

Building Support Systems for High School English Language Learners: A Developmental Program Evaluation

The graduation rate of English Language Learners (ELL) is lagging behind the general school population graduation rate. The purpose of this study is to address the needs of ELL students for improving the graduation rate of ELL students. The context of this inquiry is a high school with a large ELL population located in one of the state’s largest school districts. My study demonstrates outcomes of a lack of a shared vision and attention by the school administrators on addressing the needs of ELL students, ineffective remediation strategies and tools used to guide ELL students, and the potential impact high-stakes state tests have when used as the only way to measure mastery required to graduate
