Our work aims to develop an effective solution for the discovery and the reuse of software components in existing and commonly used development environments. We propose an ontology for describing and discovering atomic software components. The description covers both the functional and non functional properties which are expressed as QoS parameters. Our search process is based on the function that calculates the semantic distance between the component interface signature and the signature of a given query, thus achieving an appropriate comparison. We also use the notion of "subsumption" to compare the input/output of the query and the components input/output. After selecting the appropriate components, the non-functional properties are used to refine the search result. We propose an approach for discovering composite components if any atomic component is found, this approach based on the shared ontology. To integrate the component results in the project under development, we developed the ontology integration and two services " input/output convertor " and " output Matching "

This paper proposes textual data mining as a next generation intelligent decision making technology for sustainable knowledge management solutions in any industrial environment. A detailed survey of applications of Data Mining techniques for exploiting information from different data formats and transforming this information into knowledge is presented in the literature survey. The focus of the survey is to show the power of different data mining techniques for exploiting information from data. The literature surveyed in this paper shows that intelligent decision making is of great importance in many contexts within manufacturing, construction and business generally. Business intelligence tools, which can be interpreted as decision support tools, are of increasing importance to companies for their success within competitive global markets. However, these tools are dependent on the relevancy, accuracy and overall quality of the knowledge on which they are based and which they use. Thus the research work presented in the paper uncover the importance and power of different data mining techniques supported by text mining methods used to exploit information from semi-structured or un-structured data formats. A great source of information is available in these formats and when exploited by combined efforts of data and text mining tools help the decision maker to take effective decision for the enhancement of business of industry and discovery of useful knowledge is made for next generation of intelligent decision making. Thus the survey shows the power of textual data mining as the next generation technology for intelligent decision making in the industrial environment

Most of the document processing systems today have applied Al technologies to support their system intelligent behaviors. For the application of Al technologies in such systems, the core problem is how to represent and manage different kinds of knowledge to support their inference engine components\u27 functionalities. In other words, knowledge management has become a critical issue in the document processing systems. In this dissertation, within the scope of the TEXt PROcessing System (TEXPROS), we identify knowledge of various kinds that are applicable in the system. We investigate several problems of managing this knowledge and then develop a knowledge base for TEXPROS. In developing this knowledge base, we present approaches to representing and managing different kinds of knowledge to support its inference engine components\u27 functionalities. In TEXPROS, a dual-model paradigm is used, which contains the folder organization and the document type hierarchy, to represent and manage documents. We introduce a new System Catalog structure to represent and manage the knowledge for TEXPROS. This knowledge includes the system-level information of the folder organization and the document type hierarchy, and the operational level information of the document base itself. A unified storage approach is employed to store both the operational level information and system level information. Such storage is to house the frame template base and frame instance base. An enhanced two-level thesaurus model is presented in this dissertation. When dealing with special kinds of data in processing documents, a new structure DataDomain is presented, which supports the extended thesaurus functionalities, pattern recognition and data type operations. Based on the dual-model paradigm of TEXPROS, a concept of “Semantic Range” is presented to solve the sense ambiguity problems. In this dissertation, we also present the approaches to implement the general KeyTerm transformation and approximate term matching of TEXPROS. Finally, a new component “Registration Center” at the knowledge management level of TEXPROS is presented. The registration center aims to help users handle knowledge packages for specific working domain and to solve the knowledge porting problem for TEXPROS. This dissertation is concluded with the future research work

Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Engenharia InformáticaThe volume of digital information is increasingly larger and even though organiza-tions are making more of this information available, without the proper tools users have great difficulties in retrieving documents about subjects of interest. Good infor-mation retrieval mechanisms are crucial for answering user information needs. Nowadays, search engines are unavoidable - they are an essential feature in docu-ment management systems. However, achieving good relevancy is a difficult problem particularly when dealing with specific technical domains where vocabulary mismatch problems can be prejudicial. Numerous research works found that exploiting the lexi-cal or semantic relations of terms in a collection attenuates this problem. In this dissertation, we aim to improve search results and user experience by inves-tigating the use of potentially connected Web vocabularies in information retrieval en-gines. In the context of open Web-based SKOS vocabularies we propose a query expan-sion framework implemented in a widely used IR system (Lucene/Solr), and evaluated using standard IR evaluation datasets. The components described in this thesis were applied in the development of a new search system that was integrated with a rapid applications development tool in the context of an internship at Quidgest S.A.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - ImTV research project, in the context of the UTAustin-Portugal collaboration (UTA-Est/MAI/0010/2009); QSearch project (FCT/Quidgest

    Ontology Localization
