    A computational framework for aesthetical navigation in musical search space

This article addresses aspects of an ongoing project in the generation of artificial Persian (-like) music. Liquid Persian Music software (LPM) is a cellular automata based audio generator. In this paper LPM is discussed from the view point of future potentials of algorithmic composition and creativity. Liquid Persian Music is a creative tool, enabling exploration of emergent audio through new dimensions of music composition. Various configurations of the system produce different voices which resemble musical motives in many respects. Aesthetical measurements are determined by Zipf’s law in an evolutionary environment. Arranging these voices together for producing a musical corpus can be considered as a search problem in the LPM outputs space of musical possibilities. On this account, the issues toward defining the search space for LPM is studied throughout this paper

    Algorithmic composition is the partial or total automation of the process of music composition by using computers. Since the 1950s, different computational techniques related to Artificial Intelligence have been used for algorithmic composition, including grammatical representations, probabilistic methods, neural networks, symbolic rule-based systems, constraint programming and evolutionary algorithms.     A Functional Taxonomy of Music Generation Systems

    Digital advances have transformed the face of automatic music generation since its beginnings at the dawn of computing. Despite the many breakthroughs, issues such as the musical tasks targeted by different machines and the degree to which they succeed remain open questions. We present a functional taxonomy for music generation systems with reference to existing systems. The taxonomy organizes systems according to the purposes for which they were designed. It also reveals the inter-relatedness amongst the systems.     Hard and Soft Law in the European Union: The case of Social policy and the Open Method of Coordination

    The European integrative experiment rests on a dynamic equilibrium of intergovernmental and supranational features of the regulatory framework of the European Union. One of the most important challenges to this system currently lies in finding ways to maintain its capacity to operate and, at the same time, adapt its problem-solving instruments to changing conditions of the regulatory politics. The current pragmatic mix of regulative strategies employed in the European Union allows for different possible scenarios concerning future development of the regulatory system within the EU. The article analyses the emergence and proliferation of new forms of decision-making and related legal techniques in the European Union. The origins and possible trajectory of a whole spectrum of contemporary legal techniques and governance methods, ranging from 'hard' to 'soft', are being contextualized.     Bond Yield Compression in the Countries Converging to the Euro

    We demonstrate that bond yield compression is under way in the countries converging to the euro and that German yields are significant drivers of local currency yields. Based on the evidence from Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, we conclude that these new Member States of the European Union are ready to adopt the euro without risking a disruptive shock to their financial stability. This message transpires from investigating the daily volatility dynamics of local bond yields as a function of German yields, conditional on changes in local term spreads, exchange rates and adjustments to central bank reference rates. Similar results of high sensitivity of local currency bond yields to changes in German yields are obtained from testing monthly series of macroeconomic fundamentals. Programy pre komponovanie, alebo tvorenie hudby" na rôznych úrovniach procesu kompozície boli vyvíjané už od 50tych rokov minulého storočia. Táto bakalárska práca uvádza hlavné prístupy v oblasti automatickej harmonizácie t.j. Problém produkovania hudobného aranžmá (nôt) z daných melódií, a sústreďuje sa na najpoužívanejšie techniky jeho riešenia. Hlavným cieľom tejto práce je návrh a implementácia softvérového systému pre automatickú harmonizáciu, ktorý by mal byť schopný naučiť sa pravidlá harmónie z databázy midi súborov. V tejto práci popíšem existujúce harmonizačné systémy a ďalej sa zameriam hlavne na princípy strojového učenia - teóriu a aplikáciu umelých neurónových sietí a ich použitie pre harmonizáciu.Computer scientists have long been considering music as a particularly interesting art Indeed, the history of computer music is almost as long as the history of computer science. Programs to compose music, or to make music" at various levels of the composition process have been designed since the 50s. This bachelor's thesis surveys the main approaches in the field of automatic harmonization, i.e. the problem of producing musical arrangements (scores) from given melodies, and focuses on the most widely used techniques to do so. The main goal of this paper is the issue of design and implementation of a software system for an automatic music harmonization which should learn the rules of harmony from the database of midi file. In the paper. In this thesis I describe existing systems for harmonization and furthermore I focus mainly on principles of machine learning - theory and application of Artificial Neural Networks and their use for harmonization.

    National legislative systems and foreign standards and regulations: The case of International Financial Reporting Standards adoption

    This study is focused on the linkages between the legislative families as descriptors of national legislative systems and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). We consider such analysis as a case study for the more general issue of explaining the preferences of national regulators in the adoption of foreign norms, rules, standards and practices. By using a dataset of 162 jurisdictions and dummy variables designed to capture the current stage of IFRSs adoption and, respectively, the taxonomy of their legislative systems, we find that a full IFRSs adoption is more likely to occur in countries which have principles-based on legislative mono-systems. In addition, we observe that a strong rule of law, with an effective mechanism of property rights reinforcement, as well as the pre-adoption existence of a pro-growth set of public policies can contribute to the encouragement of IFRSs adoption.IFRSs adoption• Legislative families

    RL-Duet: Online Music Accompaniment Generation Using Deep Reinforcement Learning

    This paper presents a deep reinforcement learning algorithm for online accompaniment generation, with potential for real-time interactive human-machine duet improvisation. Different from offline music generation and harmonization, online music accompaniment requires the algorithm to respond to human input and generate the machine counterpart in a sequential order. We cast this as a reinforcement learning problem, where the generation agent learns a policy to generate a musical note (action) based on previously generated context (state). The key of this algorithm is the well-functioning reward model. Instead of defining it using music composition rules, we learn this model from monophonic and polyphonic training data. This model considers the compatibility of the machine-generated note with both the machine-generated context and the human-generated context. Experiments show that this algorithm is able to respond to the human part and generate a melodic, harmonic and diverse machine part. Subjective evaluations on preferences show that the proposed algorithm generates music pieces of higher quality than the baseline method
